BRIANCON, France—T-Mobile's jinx on this year's Tour de France continued on Tuesday when German Marcus Burghardt crashed after hitting a dog during the ninth stage.

Burghardt could not avoid the Labrador as it crossed the road some 50 km after the start of the stage from Val d'Isere.

His bike was damaged but neither he nor the dog appeared to be inured.

T-Mobile have already lost three riders in this year's Tour.

Briton Mark Cavendish gave up during Sunday's eighth stage. Australian team leader Michael Rogers crashed heavily during the same stage, on the descent from the Cormet de Roselend and pulled out with a shoulder injury.

Also on Sunday, German Patrik Sinkewitz had to withdraw from the race after hitting a spectator as he rode to his hotel in Val d'Isere following the end of the stage.

Sinkewitz broke his nose in the collision. The spectator was taken to hospital in Grenoble in a serious condition but regained consciousness late on Monday.
