NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular is continually gaining momentum, with the New York based Divine Performing Arts Group now in Australia's capital – Canberra. This is the group's 21st stopover during the global Spectacular journey.
Canberra plays a significant role in preserving the art and culture of the country. Canberra represents the "heart" of Australia and this is what makes the Spectacular's debut here unique.
According to local residents, acknowledging cultural arts is imperative.
"In the context of Canberra, Canberra is a multicultural city. We're very happy to have all sorts of culture and all sorts of backgrounds presented here… Australia is a democracy as you know, like the US, and we encourage and foster diversity. So it's very nice to see such diversity presented and such a different background of Chinese culture," said Mr Zoba Giatzo, a psychologist and kung fu teacher.
Canberra is the third destination of the Australian tour for the Spectacular and is the 21st city for the well-travelled Divine Performing Arts Group in 2007. As one of the country's least populated capital cities, with 329,000 people, the media coverage for the Spectacular in Canberra has been impressive.
Dr. Songfa Liu, Vice-President of Canberra's Asian Cultural Centre (host of the world class show), said: "the news print media coverage on the Spectacular in Canberra has a total circulation of 810,000 copies.
"There have been more than 400 radio spots and more than 10 interviews about the Spectacular. "

With more than half a dozen media sponsors and partners in total, the Spectacular is possibly the largest media event for a Chinese cultural performance in this country.
The enthusiasm and response from the media has been greatly encouraging for the dance group. The tour will travel to Melbourne this weekend and Sydney the following week – with limited tickets remaining.
The NTDTV Chinese Spectacular has extended its global shows to more screenings in New Zealand, Korea and Taiwan with the Divine Performing Arts group who are the artistic force behind New Tang Dynasty Television's Holiday Wonders and Chinese New Year Spectacular shows each year. Its mission is to rediscover the essence of true, traditional culture and to bring arts to the world that celebrate human dignity and positive values. It produces and performs works that center on classical themes and divinely-inspired cultural traditions. The group's performances aim to provide an experience of consummate beauty and goodness.
