Located close to the Brisbane's beautiful Botanical Gardens and Parliament House, the Pearl Bus Stop Café is ideally situated to draw in customers, and it does just that. Students from nearby QUT, office workers and the general public drop in for one of the delicious meals advertised on the pavement sign outside - ranging from simple rice dishes to more exotic noodles and seafood meals.
The menu is conveniently laid out in a photographic display so that you can easily choose your meal. There's a large selection of Oriental dishes, all at very reasonable prices - ranging from $5.50 for a basic rice dish to $13 dollars for a dish of king prawns. Noodle dishes (of which Singapore noodles is my favourite) are $7.80 for a very generous serving.
The Pearl Bus Stop Café offers a very informal and relaxed dining atmosphere, with friendly, happy staff and a diverse assortment of local and international clientele. Some stop for a meal, a take-away, or just sit and chat with friends.
You can eat either inside or out, with the outside tables sheltered by large umbrellas. It's a pleasant place to just sit and watch the world go by while waiting for your meal, and depending on the time of day and your choice of meal, you won't need to wait more than 10 minutes at the most.
Busiest times are of course weekday lunchtimes, but if you have the time, it's certainly worth the wait.
There are still a large number of dishes I haven't tried, so I'll be back to happily eat my way through the large and varied menu (one dish at a time of course!).
The Pearl Bus Stop Café is definitely value for money. So when hungry and in Brisbane, it's worth the walk.
Located on George St, nestled between Margaret and Alice Sts and only five minutes walk from the Queen Street mall, the Pearl Bus Stop Café is open from 10am until 9pm Monday to Saturday.
