SAN DIEGO—History is in the making, though much of the world remains unaware. Coinciding with the three-year anniversary of the publication of the "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party," the number of Chinese people who have quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) reached more than 28 million last week. To commemorate the occasion San Diegans held a rally in Balboa Park on Nov. 17, with similar events taking place all over the world.
Setting the tone, participants in the event stood quietly in front of the Lily Pond, holding banners written in both English and Chinese, with sayings such as, "No More Torture, No More Killing, No More CCP." San Diego resident and of the Global Service Center for Quitting the CCP head David Gao gave a speech about the importance of the issue, both to the Chinese people and to the rest of the world.
"During the more than half century of the CCP's tyranny, this evil party has completely destroyed people's faith, transforming China into an atheist country. The divine culture of China was devastated and the crooked Party culture has been imposed on the people," said Gao. "With the arrogance and blindness of atheism the CCP has ruined the environment and destabilized the society. Politics is corrupt to its core, morals as low as could be, disasters frequent, diseases rampant, and people's discontent is soaring to an all time high."
"Only when you take into consideration the potential threat the CCP's collapse poses to the world, will you find why we think so highly of the Quitting the CCP movement. The quitting movement, moral in nature and peaceful in manner, is creating and strengthening an environment where peace and justice are valued, violence and hatred are detested and discarded," said Gao. "In fact, the peaceful and piecemeal quitting the CCP movement is the only viable way to bring down the communist regime in China without bringing chaos, war, and instability to the world."
Having immigrated to San Diego from China less than a month ago, Geng Sa, a former university teacher in Henan Province, shared his first hand experiences of being imprisoned and tortured under the rule of the CCP. As a Falun Dafa practitioner of 13 years, Sa has faced intense pressure since April 25, 1999, when the CCP launched the persecution against the peaceful meditation practice.

"On May 30, 2001 my wife and I were again kidnapped by the local branch of National Security Bureau and police station. My wife was brutally beaten and illegally imprisoned for the next three years, while I was detained for more than two months," said Sa. "While I was in custody I carried on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The guards force-fed me, causing great damage to my teeth and body. Almost all of my teeth fell out because of the violence inflicted on me, and now I have to wear dentures if I want to speak clearly."
Sa's wife was severely tortured in the prisons, because she refused to give up her beliefs and be "transformed" during brainwashing sessions. Sa said that he received news that his wife had been tortured to death on June 4, 2003 after being put through a torture method known as "strapped clothes," a torture method where victims are forced to wear clothing that resembles a straight jacket. Their arms are then tied behind their backs, pulled up over their shoulders, and tied together with their legs.
"To make them suffer even more the police force them to wear headphones broadcasting defamatory programs about Falun Dafa. With their mouths covered, they were then hung up on the widow frame," said Sa. "The police usually put determined practitioners through such torture for at least 24 hours. This torture often causes bones in the victim's shoulders, elbows, wrists or even spine to break. Many victims fainted or even died due to the unbearable pain."
At the end of his speech Sa emphasized the importance that the Quitting the CCP movement holds to the Chinese people. "From the experiences of my family and I, we could see that the evil Communist Party doesn't exercise any restraint in persecuting the people," said Sa. "They brainwash them, torture them, and have committed so many evil deeds that have caused widespread discontent amongst the people. It's only right for the CCP to be dissolved."
