On the evening of January 10, 2007, as the final curtain dropped at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre, it marked the successful conclusion of the two scheduled performances of NTDTV's Chinese New Year Sepctacular in Los Angeles. Over six thousand people had attended the LA show. The audience responded warmly to the traditional Chinese culture and values presented in the show.
Many audience members expressed their anger toward the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) knowing that the CCP has spared no pains in interfering with the global performances of NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular, especially in South Korea, where the theatre unilaterally terminated the contract under pressure from the CCP.
They Can't Stop Your Performance
James Water, Vice Chairman of "Citizens For Global Solution," spoke at the VIP reception prior to the first LA performance. "We read about the show's opening performance in San Diego. We are anxiously looking forward to seeing the show. Our understanding is that this show provides a true representation of Chinese culture and history."
Water said, "This artistic performance is not only entertaining, it also includes the spirit of China's long cultural history. Without Chinese culture, the history of the world would not be complete. It is important that the Chinese people be free. The Chinese people cannot be free as long as they continue to suffer under the tyranny of the CCP."
After watching the short video introducing NTDTV, Water said that he admires NTDTV's efforts in reporting the truth in today's China. In regards to CCP interference of the Chinese New Year Spectacular at various locations, Water said, "The Chinese Communist Party has been to cancel Chinese culture for a long time. There is the Cultural Revolution and they attempted to destroy a lot of elements of Chinese culture. There weren't successful and then they may get a couple of shows cancelled out, but they really won't be successful in stopping you and the folks here to put on the shows to the world."
Hollywood Star: The Show is Amazing, CCP Interference is Shameful
Hollywood movie star Baron Jay brought his wife and daughter to see the show in LA. Jay said, "When I came to the theater this evening, I didn't know what the show was about. After watching this evening's performance, I felt we had seen an excellent show. In our lives, we are always looking forward to the best; tonight we got it. Both the music and dancing were amazing. Next year I will bring my colleagues and friends to see this show. This show provides people from all walks of life an opportunity to truly appreciate Chinese culture. My daughter liked the show very much. Because I am an actor, to me, this show was like a movie, a movie without dialogue." Jay said that he thought that the interference from the CCP in regards to stopping this show is truly "shameful."
Mrs. Jay works on movie production. She said that she felt very good after watching the show. She especially liked the songs, which she described as "very moving and touching."
Vietnam War Veteran: The CCP's Action is Not a Surprise
Ronnie Guyer is a veteran of the Vietnam War. As legislative assistant to California State Congressman Chen Wen, he was invited to the NTDTV VIP reception. Guyer said that he deeply admires NTDTV for reporting the truth. When he heard that NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular in Seoul was cancelled due to CCP pressure, he said that he had fought against the communists in Vietnam. Guyer said that he knew very well how bad the communist party treats the people. "The CCP's actions are not surprising. American's are not afraid of empty communist threats. In the future, you need to notify me when you have activities," said Guyer.
After watching the show, Guyer said, "Behind every dance there is a profound story. These programs raise the level of compassion within everyone's heart."
Chinese Likes Divine Culture Presented by the Show
Chairman of the LA office of Taiwanese Department of Economic and Culture Wei Wu-lien said, "The programs are very high caliber. Using culture, history and modern time as background, the programs present Chinese culture very artistically."
Chen Wenshi, board chairman for The Greater Los Angles Taiwan Association and Foundation, said, "NTDTV's programs are my favorite. When I watched the show last year, it was very good. This year's show was even better. The show is just full of talented performances. The CCP attempted to destroy traditional Chinese culture. This is very sad. Today NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular celebrates traditional Chinese culture. This is a very positive development and a very positive way to educate the world regarding our Chinese cultural heritage."
Miss Teen of Taiwan said, "This is a very good show, ten times better than what I had imagined." An audience member said, "The dances, the songs, and Erhu's talent are beyond description. Very beautiful. Even the background are exceptional. Everything about the show was very special. Everyone is so beautiful. The costumes, all beautiful."
General Secretary of The American Confucius Association, Wang Shengsheng said, "The performances are based on traditional Chinese culture. The designs are very special and delicate. Combined with high-technology, it is all very beautiful. The dancing is especially beautiful. Hua Mylan's joining the army to substitute for her father and Yue Fei's loyalty to the country, was all very educational. Combining education with entertainment can deepen one's understanding of Chinese culture. This show will help the American people to better appreciate the richness of Chinese culture."
