TORONTO — A man arrested on terror charges in June in a Canadian police sweep was denied bail in a Toronto -area court on Thursday, a prosecution spokesman said.

Asad Ansari, 21, is one of 17 men charged with participating in a group that allegedly plotted attacks on Canadian targets. He is the fourth suspect to be denied bail, while three have been released.

Ansari is one of seven charged with intent to cause an explosion, and none of those men has been released. He is also charged with knowingly participating in a terrorist organization and with receiving terror training.

His lawyer, Anser Farooq, told reporters outside the court that his client was devastated by the ruling and that he would probably seek a bail review before a judge.

Bail hearings are continuing for several other accused, including suspected ringleaders Fahim Ahmad and Zakaria Amara.

A wide-ranging publication ban prevents reporting of court testimony.
