Hunger strikes to protect human rights in China are occurring both inside and outside of China. Why is the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) so afraid of hunger strikes?
In such a big country, there are people in China going on hunger strikes every day, and the CCP doesn't care. There are two kinds of hunger strikes it does fear, however. One kind is the action carried out by Falun Gong practitioners in labor camps to negate the CCP and its persecution. The other kind is hunger strikes by lawyers and other members of the public who have read the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and have withdrawn from the CCP.
It's not that the Party fears the determination or enthusiasm of the hunger strikers. Rather, it fears people acting on their upright beliefs to deny the Party. The CCP fears upright beliefs the most. This fact is seen in the Party's history of suppressing the traditional beliefs and values of ancient Chinese culture. The two most graphic examples of this suppression are the Cultural Revolution and the persecution of Falun Gong.
According to Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party , "A possessing spirit has to control absolutely the mind of the possessed in order to drain energy for its survival." The CCP is like an evil possessing spirit. The reason it can maintain its existence is because people who don't know the truth infuse it with energy. Like any entity, it is most afraid of the depletion of its source of energy.
Some people criticize the CCP because they still harbor hopes, consciously or unconsciously, that it will improve. No matter what subject, be it corrupt officials or unregulated commerce, as long as people don't touch the nature of the CCP, but only criticize the Party on specific issues and do not encourage people to deny its existence, the Party apparatus will leave them alone. Actually, the CCP even welcomes such criticism, as the criticism also gives it energy. It is like a quarrel between a couple. When they are quarrelling, they are giving energy to their relationship. When they completely sever all connections, the relationship dies.
In other words, all of the false hopes, expectations, love, hatred, and other emotions give energy to the CCP. Are you angry at it? Are you disgusted by it? Are you saddened? Are you afraid that it will order tanks to roll on the streets again? Are you worried about it? Do you think it will get better? Do you still love it? Do you still want it?
As long as you have these mentalities, you are still within the frame of thought fostered by the CCP, and you are still giving the Party energy. Only when people read and widely spread the Nine Commentaries and open their minds, can they free themselves from CCP indoctrination. Then they can truly deny this evil possessing spirit and cut off its source of energy.
It is not enough just to think, "I completely deny the CCP." One has to take action. Thoughts are unstable; actions are what count. You cannot remove the mark of the CCP beast until you officially declare your withdrawal from the Party and its affiliated organizations. By the same token, the CCP will cease to receive energy from you only when you go on a hunger strike based on "completely denying the evil CCP" or take other concrete actions to negate the Party.
Human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng, who initiated the relay hunger strikes in China, said, "On many things, if you have fear, what you fear will come true. If you have no fear, nothing scary will happen. I don't fear the CCP."
I would like to add to attorney Gao's comment: I don't fear the CCP, so it can't get energy from me to persecute people. I would also add that whatever the CCP fears the most will become its future.
