NEW YORK—U.S. stocks rose Wednesday, with the Dow average reversing earlier losses, as a jump in technology stocks offset jitters about U.S. election results after Microsoft Corp. said it would start to sell its new Vista operating system on Jan. 30.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 20.82 points, or 0.17 percent, at 12,177.59. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 3.73 points, or 0.27 percent, at 1,386.57. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 14.49 points, or 0.61 percent, at 2,390.37.
