ROME - On Monday in a small Italian town Acerra, close to Naples, St. Peter's Church was temporarily closed to visitors. The reason was that during Sunday prayer thousands of parishioners witnessed an unusual phenomenon: the statue of Madonna, standing close to an altar, suddenly changed its countenance and made some movements.
The church was closed on the request of experts who had arrived there to investigate a sculpture of Virgin Mary in order to comprehend what had taken place there, ANSA agency informs.
Volunteers form local civil defense services helped the Prior of the church, Don Oreste Santoro, to maintain order in the parish, which was flooded with curious people after the message about the miracle had spread. They confirmed that they had seen with their own eyes the statue of Madonna "coming to life".
It was reported earlier, that many parishioners who came to this church for Sunday prayer claimed that they allegedly watched how the complexion of the statue unexpectedly changed, becoming human, and made some movements.
Moreover, this phenomenon was videotaped by one of the parishioners. He gave this videotape to the local priest so that he could see by himself that the statue of Madonna came to life for an instant.
People in the area cannot stop talking about this miracle.
Several years ago in Italy some small plaster sculptures of Madonna “cried with bloody tears”. Red liquid which flowed down the eyes of the statuettes was taken for an examination. Scientists stated that it was real human blood.
Moreover, X- rays of the figurines showed that there were neither pores nor any secret mechanisms inside.
Two months ago in Italy bloody tears appeared on the statue of Saint Pius who, Italians believe, was able to work wonders during his lifetime and who continues to work them after his death. These phenomena still remain a mystery.
