May 20, 1989: Martial law is enacted. A woman is introducing her son (who is attending the demonstration) to a soldier.

May 20-22, 1989: The map showing where Beijing residents and students stop the military troop from entering the city.
May 4, 1989: The students cheering after breaking through the police blockade.

The students wrote on the flag, “Hello Mr. Democracy.”
May 4, 1989: An old professor, who has joined the 1919 May 4 movement seventy years ago, is making a speech to support students’ appeals outside the municipal office.

May 10, 1989: The grand bicycle parade on May 10 is probably the first bicycle parade in the world. It was fitting for the situation in China.
May 10, 1989: The bicycle parade arrives in Tiananmen Square. A student ties cotton tape on his mouth and forehead. The words on it say, “Give my human rights back — I want to speak,” to support the appeals of reporters in the press in Beijing.

May 13, 1989: The first night of the hunger strike. The hunger strike started on the afternoon of May 13. Students stayed on the Square in the cold night. Students generally believed that the government would compromise quickly, so they did not bring blankets and coats.
May 21, 1989: The students at the square wave their fists and flags towards the helicopters sent by the Communist leadership.

May 22, 1989: On May 22, about 100 Chinese students join a parade at the Chinese Embassy at Moscow, supporting the Beijing democratic movement.
May 22, 1989: People sing and dance celebrating democracy.
