TAIWAN - Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-Jeou, currently running for Kuomintang Party Chairman, headed a campaign team on a visit to Eastern Taiwan on Mother’s Day afternoon. He was met by an excited crowd of supporters, with people swarming the area for a glimpse of the mayor.
Besides wishing the citizens a happy holiday, Ma Ying-Jeou spoke to Common Party members and well-wishers about his intention to run for Party Chairman and about his determination to reform the future Kuomintang Party. Ma said, “The others all say that I am a “non-stick pan.” Indeed, I do not stick to ill-earned money, big business groups, prostitution and alcohol. But I do want to stick to party reforms, social stability and patriotism. And not only would I stick to these things, I would stick to them tightly.” The crowd of supporters applauded. He also stressed his hopes that Taiwan and the Mainland would not have to go to war, and his wish that they resolve their conflicts peacefully.
Ma Ying-Jeou specifically mentioned that when he was in Taoyuan County, a war veteran gave him a picture, on which the founder Sun Yat-Sen had written “Peace, struggle, save China.” He believes that, at present, in order to save China, Taiwan needs to be saved. Only by taking the right path will Taiwan have a future.
Among the sea of flags, nearly every person was holding a copy of the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party.” A senior Kuomintang Party member personally presented the Mayor with a copy of the “Nine Commentaries.” This he gladly accepted, and said that he knew of this publication from The Epoch Times, having seen it in Taipei. The elderly party member said, “This book, the ‘Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party,’ has already caused over 1.35 million people to withdraw from the Communist Party because it provides a true, objective exposure of that Party’s essence. I hope that everybody on both sides of the Strait can clearly see the Communist Party’s essence; only then will they stop allowing themselves to be cheated and hold onto false hopes. Only then will China have a future.” Others at the meeting also gladly accepted copies of the “Nine Commentaries” from the senior party member.
After leaving the meeting site, Ma Ying-Jeou attended a tea party at a Taiwanese Women’s Society. His Eastern Taiwan trip ended in the evening.
