NEW YORK—The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the New Jersey coastline for Wednesday into Thursday morning as another winter storm bears down on the region.
Moderate tidal flooding is expected, with Sandy Hook, N.J., expected to see water 7–8 feet above low water. When Hurricane Sandy hit, water reached 13.1 feet.
Winds are expected to gust up to 60 miles per hour on the coast, bringing with it a mix of rain and snow.
Mitchell Gaines, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J., said that this event is not a major weather event such as Sandy; however, residents should expect road closures and some coastal flooding.
Beach erosion is also expected.
“It may unfortunately cause more damage to beaches and nearby roadways and property,” Gaines said.
No flood watch was issued for New York City as of press time; however, a hazardous weather outlook was posted, noting the possibility of snow and heavy winds by Thursday.
