Anti-President Trump protesters who turned up to a Trump rally in Phoenix, Arizona, on Tuesday got into skirmishes with police after they started hurling rocks at them. Police returned fire with tear gas.

In one live-streamed instance [see below], a protester wearing a gas mask kicked a tear gas canister back at police.

But it appears the next canister came a lot faster. Police apparently fired a tear gas canister that hit him in the groin, causing him to double over in agony.

“A guy just got shot with a rubber bullet,” said one host for CBS5 in Phoenix. The other host stayed silent.

“So… er… yeah, the officers are not, are not messing around at all,” the host added.

Another protester wearing a Colin Kaepernick jersey can be seen trying to help the other.

Reports say that crowds threw rocks, bottles, and other objects at police during Tuesday’s protests.

Trump went to Phoenix for a rally to encourage his voter base.

Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams said that as of 11:20 p.m., three people had been arrested. One person was arrested on an unrelated warrant, according to MailOnline.

According to the Los Angeles Times, who had reporters on the scene, the protests were mainly peaceful.

“The good news is the job of the Phoenix Police Department tonight was to make sure that everyone got home safely,” Mayor Greg Stanton said. “The good news is that is exactly what occurred in Phoenix tonight.”

Williams repudiated one reporter’s description of the scene as chaotic.

“I wouldn’t call it chaos,” Williams said. “Those are your words. I’m not going to use those words.”

Sharon Miller, of Mesa, Arizona, told the Times, “I’m so tired of everyone acting like they’re doing something so brave by standing up to our president.… They’re not.”
