A new Talking Dead episode on Sunday, July 6 is going to give insight into the upcoming season 5 of The Walking Dead.
The highly anticipated season is being filmed right now in Georgia and will premiere in October.
Season 4 ended with most of the group, apart from Carol, Tyreese, and the still-missing Beth, trapped in a boxcar at Terminus.
Show creator Robert Kirkman recently confirmed to E! News that the group does get out of the boxcar, but it takes some creativity.
“They definitely get out of that of that train car. They do not spend the entirety of Season 5 in that train car,” he said.
“It is through ingenuity, creativity, and somewhat savageness that they are able to make it out of the train car. There will be resolution.”
The exact details of the Talking Dead special haven’t been revealed but AMC did say that host Chris Hardwick will be joined by showrunner Scott Gimple and Aisha Tyler of “Archer.” Andrew J. West, who plays Gareth, is also set to appear.
The episode, which airs at 9 p.m. EDT, will likely include a few sneak peeks into the next season, but the network said that the first trailer won’t be released until Comic Con later this month.
The next season is expected to be particularly intense after the gradual build-up over the last half of season 4. There were surprisingly no major deaths at the end of season 4, likely indicating that at least one major character will get killed off early.
The season 5 premiere is already being touted as full of action and kicking things into a super high gear.
“It’s the most ambitious episode that we’ve shot,” Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) says in a preview. “It moves like no other premiere that we’ve ever shot.”
The last season had lots of episodes with only a small group of character in it after the larger group was separated following the assault on the prison, but now most everyone is back together.
“I think a lot of people are trying to figure out where they fit into the group this season,” Lincoln added later.
The newest main character, Gareth, appears to be the new villain. He seems to be in charge of Terminus.
“What I can say about him is he’s definitely a complicated character,” Andrew J. West, who plays Gareth, said in another preview. “There’s more to him than initially meets the eye. He’s a pragmatist and he’s a survivor.”
West added that the character is “very calculated.”
Meanwhile, several new spoilers have come out recently. The first is far from definitive but it seems more and more likely that the people in Terminus are actually based off of The Hunters in the comic book. One piece of evidence is that Father Gabriel appears set to be introduced early in season 5. He met Rick’s group shortly before they were attacked by The Hunters, a group of cannibals, in the comics.
Other evidence includes the pile of flesh seen near the end of the season 4 finale as well as the set-up at Terminus with different groups of people locked in boxcars.
Another big spoiler is photos obtained from the set appear to show Carol getting hit by a car. And that car appears to have a cross on the back, similar to the one that sped off with Beth in it.
