Golden Toilet Fake: Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych Doesnt’ Have Gold Toilet

A photo that’s being circulated on social media shows a gold toilet that is said to belong to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, but that’s not true.

The photo gold toilet has been around since at least 2012, and there’s no evidence that it belongs to Yanukovych or anyone else in Ukraine.

Mashable editor Jim Roberts mistakenly tweeted out the photo this week, leading many to believe it’s Yanukovych’s toilet.

“Folks. I goofed. Please don’t be tempted by the too-good-to be true toilet photo. It’s not from #Yanukovych estate,” he wrote.

But a number of people shared it on Twitter.

“This is where #Yanukovich pointed Percy at the porcelain – All Dictators have a throne toilet made of gold,” one person Tweeted.

Added another, “People like this run countries. Yanukovich’s toilet is literally a throne, and it’s made of gold.”

This week, protesters in Ukraine took over Yanukovych’s presidential residence.

And Ukraine’s Parliament on Saturday voted to oust him, according to NPR. Also, ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who was held in prison for several years, said that Yanukovych being ousted is a welcome sign.

“Our homeland will from today on be able to see the sun and sky as a dictatorship has ended,” she said Saturday. “Each drop of blood was not spilled in vain,” she added, referring to the 77 protesters who were killed.
