A post that says Justin Bieber killed a 7-year-old boy who was walking to school with his 12-year-old sister in a DUI-related crash and is now in prison is just a Facebook scam.
“Breaking News: Justin Bieber Did it Again!! This time it’s OVER…DUI,” the post reads.
It’s accompanied by another line of text that says, “Justine Bieber [sic] did it again! this time his CAREER is over.. He accidentaly killed a 7-Year-Old Boy that was walking to school with 12-Year-Old Sister..Police Investigate that bieber is positive in DUI.”
It claims to have a video but there is none. The post shows what appears to be a car with a fake YouTube-style play button over it.
The message appears to be spreading via a rogue app that asks for users’ permission to share further. The post then appears on your timeline, which entices others to click on it.
If one has shared the message by allowing it permission to download, it’s recommended to delete any instances of it.
To remove the application, log into your Facebook account, go to your account application settings page, and find the list of all the applications that you have given access to your account
Go down and click on the “X” to the right of the rogue app.
On Twitter and Facebook, a number of people thought Bieber killed a 7-year-old boy, or they were trying to find out if it was true.
“No way has justin Bieber killed a little boy??” one user wrote.
Added another, “Mygahd! My Mom from US says that Justin Bieber was accidentally killed a 7yr old kid while he was driving, He’s in prison now. #RIPToTheKid.”
Lawyers for Bieber this week sought to prevent “intimate” pictures of the singer from being released, according to reports. The lawyers asked a judge to prevent images that were taken while he was in custody from being shared .
“While in custody at the Miami Beach police station the defendant was captured on videotape in various states of undress which show intimate personal parts of the defendant’s body,” the motion reads.
