  • HeyJude

We’re always off topic. LOL I’ve now officially opened the new page….with no topic whatsoever. :-)

    • chezmoi

I was just thinking the same thing, Jude. Where is Bob Roberts? We need him in our redundant room.

Maybe we can make the Agora more of a place to discuss various um, actual topics?

      • HeyJude

Bob Roberts! I love his name. His is an obvious laugh right off the bat. I got caught off guard yesterday ….finally “getting” the significance of OneOtherPerson, and I had to be told! I was teasing MagnaDave about never being able to leave because one person was typing. OneOtherPerson popped in and said “that is One Other Person typing.” LOL As to actual topics…I’ll chatter on anything. :-) My husband’s tarantula just molted and freaked me the hell out! Who knew tarantulas crawled out of their whole dang bodies…it looked like something from the twilight zone. Is that a topic??? Ha.

      • Richard M

Hard to guess. It could shake out one way, or the other.

        • chezmoi

It would be just like us to make this the serious conversation spot.

          • Richard M

I’m not going to try to guess how it will end up. I’m pretty sure some kind of system will develop. It may take a few days or weeks.

    • Richard M

It’s like Seinfeld. A forum about nothing!

      • HeyJude

:-) Excellent assignment for us, Kapitan…one of my main areas of study at the academy. 4th Level covert nothingness, I train from my couch unit daily. I believe I am being sent coded messages through cable programming vectors, will hand in my final report of “F Troop” and sinister warnings from “Frasier” as well. :-)

        • Richard M

Excellent work, 004. I can assure you that the Generaloberst is apprised of your progress.

Maskirovka is essential to our mission, so keep me informed of any unusual occurrences in sektor Stroudsberg.

Another place to find the wicked at the wee hours. Anybody home?? then switch to agora Anybody home. now two different sites to keep running threads on.

      • Gin1234

        Bar hopping.

        • rg9rts

Good grief 3 sites in a few days, the public house too and I’ll bet the out house can’t be far behind! LOL

    • Sharyn

Off topic is the best topic.

For example, last night when I was reaching back in the freezer to get the mint chocolate chip ice cream, I put the strawberry ice cream on top of the freezer.

And found it this morning, having melted, leaked, and dropped down the front sides and presumably rear of a stainless steel fridge.

      Oops.

  • chezmoi

I’ll drink to this! Merci, Gidon, and all the folks at ET. Could you put a link to this page on the Agora page? Some of us might not see the announcement in the comments.

  • AskandTell

    The drinks looks yummy..Cheers!

  • Marissa Emily

Hmmm so many rooms now, hard to keep up…LOL

  • Sarah Sahasbeen

Oh all right, I’ll be the designated driver since I’m not allowed to drink.

  • Marissa Emily

Okay this is the happy hour room, where are the happy people????!!!!

  • Canukistani

Set ‘em up Joe. This round’s on me.

    • Marissa Emily

      sure is quiet

      • Canukistani

Guess it’s too early in the day. Either that or we just don’t have any serious drinkers.

        • Marissa Emily

hahaha Well the serious drinkers are probably still asleep

          • Canukistani

Yeah, I guess that’s probably true. I’m not crazy about the serious drinkers anyway. I like the fun drinkers!

          • Marissa Emily

Yeah, fun drinking is the best, no doubt.

      • rg9rts

        Not anymore! You’re here

        • Marissa Emily

You sound like Kons now, meanie!!!

Wolfgang apologies to all her adoring fans for being unable to respond on Forum Stage 2, which has now closed for business. Poopa-scoop duties will now continue, unabated on, yeah….happy hour.

    • Canukistani

Mornin’! Lotsa new places to explore today. There’s even a British room.

      • malta123

        Really?? Wheresat?

        • Canukistani

          Here …

          http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/480615-the-public-house/

There’s also a Canucki room and the Agora room.

          • malta123

            Cheers, will have a peep…

          • Canukistani

            Yup.

          • malta123

Great stuff, just ordered a pint of Newcastle Brown Ale…any Geordies about?

          • Canukistani

            Now there’s one I don’t know. Geordies?

          • malta123

The colloquial name for anyone that comes from Newcastle-on-Tyne.

          • Canukistani

Ahh, no wonder I didn’t know it. My brother and his family were posted to England last August and I’ve been picking up some of the more interesting language, but it’s not likely that he’d have heard that one.

          • malta123

Here’s a bit of the lingo, this will impress them, for I don’t know, a Geordie would say : ah diven naw, maan.

For the cow jumped over the gate: The coow joomped oowa the giat.

          • Canukistani

Wow, it really is a different language. Reminds me of Pygmalion. My brother’s latest installment was to tell me about tippers and grabs. It sounded like some kind of game to me or maybe a lunch dish.

          • malta123

Well there you go, a whole new world to explore…hope you manage to get over here at some time….

          • Canukistani

There’s a fairly good chance I will. My brother’s supposed to be there for the next 5 years so I’ll probably make the trip at some point.

I’m caring for an elderly mother with a number of health problems so it may not be for awhile yet, though.

          • malta123

Genuinely sorry to hear about your mum, trust all will be well and hope you do get across….Cheers…G

          • Canukistani

Thanks! I’m gonna be out of here for a bit. You have the links to the other rooms? Most people are in the Agora room I think.

          • malta123

            Got them thanks…see you later.

          • Canukistani

            Later!

  • Gin1234

I’m confused about what is off topic, because everything we post is just that. What is the topic that we are off?

    • rg9rts

      The wall

      • Gin1234

Thanks a lot. That explains everything. :)

        • rg9rts

Hey Gin anything for a friend. With all these threads I have to keep going back to my disqus to see if anyone has replies

Haven’t even loaded new top comments yet.. and will need to close out & re-open now to do so.. This machine’s about to lock up.. Can’t wait to get the new one up & running..

    • Richard M

We’re like rich folks now. One home in the city and another in the country.

  • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Happy hour? I’ll be fine with a nice crisp ginger ale, thanks.

  • Gin1234

What are the on topic topics again?

  • Algebra Palin

    DOWN WITH THE ENGLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

    • Gin1234

That’s a different room down the hall.

  • Gin1234

Has anyone seen any good movies lately? Hello? HELLO?

    • TapestryMood

Hi, Gin…unfortunately, I don’t go to movies much…like you I thought this page may become the music thread, movies, books, fun chit-chat…and Agora more politics, environment, etc…Might, as time goes on..but right now, most seem to be *doing it all* on Agora..

      • Gin1234

I think that is what Epoch thought, too.

        • TapestryMood

Yes..maybe they should have said Happy Hour and MUSIC POSTING, pets, etc…….lol….but, comfort zones are difficult to change;-)

          • Gin1234

I was hoping that maybe the music would move here, but everyone wants to stay together, like you said. The separation anxiety might be too much, even for a little bit.

          • TapestryMood

I keep both tabs open so it would be easy to just pop back and forth…Agora was set up as a forum for discussions…Happy Hour just seems perfect for music, pets, chats about anything-traveling-food-fun give and take…hope it can work out that way…most posters aren’t bold enough to break into the flow of the music scene. and its give and take..enjoyable as it is…does hinder some, IMO..

          • Gin1234

I agree. When the music gets going it takes over for an hour or two, and a lot of people drop off, I’ve noticed. I didn’t know anyone else felt the same about it.

          • TapestryMood

We had a big discussion about it the other night on what I have named *Midnight at Epoch*..lol..Richard, Aquarius, and I were on the side of 2 or 3 threads..geezer didn’t see the need and darlin’
Dave could see both sides but would like to see music separate.
I think some of the music posters read it and got offended, by lil’ comments I read the next day..but, that is what discussions/issues are for…shouldn’t be taken as a personal attack..sigh….

          • Gin1234

It’s only reasonable to consider that everyone isn’t into it, and to notice how it takes over the thread. I have often wondered what ET thought of it, too. It’s a news site and some don’t ever post on their articles, but just post music links. I worry that that isn’t appreciated by ET, and I wonder if they were giving a hint with this arrangement. You should be able to discuss your preferences the same as someone else posts theirs. Is that the reason that Kon has been away in the last couple of days?

          • TapestryMood

I was going to ask if anyone had heard from kon;-) I remember he wasn’t feeling very good the other day…plus I think he works;-) If he doesn’t show up tomorrow, I will inquire.
I know he doesn’t post much music, so don’t think it would be an issue with him anyway..his issue, like many others, is he just wants posters to move on and away from HP. Make our own paths.

          • Unlisted2u

Hello ( What..? No Ohai..??? wtf Bro.. .o) )
Guess I could type a big long thing here, but if you two are still within earshot I’ll give you my take on the above(s)..

          • TapestryMood

Muwah..♥…hope you are feeling better…Gin just checked out on the other thread, Agora, for bed.

          • Unlisted2u

            Ohai.. :D

          • Unlisted2u

Guess Gin’s either off or involved elsewhere..

          • Unlisted2u

            Ready for my thoughts..?
            Of course you arrre.. ;o)
            Heah goes:

          • TapestryMood

WAITING! Oh, sorry, I am known for impatience..sigh..;-(

          • Unlisted2u

            ;p
            brb..

          • TapestryMood

Dave..Alley Panther..Ricki..geezer et al at Agora now..join us;-)

          • Unlisted2u

            Wrong..
            Y’all come here..

          • TapestryMood

Yes…but, we were talking about states and handling of weather issues.until kon came up..xoxo;-)

          • Unlisted2u

            Ok — here’s about Kon:
Bottom line: Don’t worry about Kon..
He’s ok — trust me on this..
He’ll be back when he’s back..
Normally I would say he’s lurking right now.. but my gut tells me he’s simply power watching 8 1/2 seasons of Supernatural.. That’s over four days solid..

          • Unlisted2u

So yeah.. like wtf peeps — of course this is supposed to become the music room. Who in their everlovin’ Rebel Force mind would think otherwise, duhhhh..
And while we’re on the music part of what-is-this room-all-about overall subject matter thingie, the traipsing in and posting of 8 songs in 15 minutes days are finito; so get over it now — don’t EVEN think about protesting..! Social fluttershying in thru da do’? — Great! Wonderful! That’s the way everyone should enter, ^5s & muah’s all around.!!
The kicking of Pacer da Spin Dr. out of the DJ booth..? Not so much..

Music should be posted with a subject matter point or moment-meaning message in mind is my thought..
What? Of course I know what we’re gonna be talking about in here. Presents a bit more of a challenge in regard to song selection now, wouldn’t you say..? ;o)
And also be aware of the fact other’s are waiting patiently in line to drop their quarters into the slot.
This will make for a much more enjoyable listening & in some cases viewing experience. Who can enjoy anything when four are playing on top of each other..? Not I.. Right now 9 times out of 10 I end up kliking on the link, check out title & band.. and if I’ve heard/seen it.. guess what? — it gets closed.. cos there are others to check out.. This ain’t no Int’l Airport.. We don’t need ‘em stacked up 20 deep.. If only one is playing I’m much more apt to listen.. and perhaps even watch.

This is my take & feelings about how spinning music in here should be handled…

            Moving right along…
            Part 2 to follow..
            Bai 4 now.. ;)

          • TapestryMood

Hmmm…double-dog-dare you to say that tomorrow night during Music time at Agora….;lmao;-P

          • Unlisted2u

Part Two: What should be talked about in this room..

Wellll, anything and everything === EXCEPT Politics..!!

Face it Brothers and Sisters: Yes! — we DO have political chops..
But for the most part EVERYONE I’ve so far met here could at the very least audition for Second City on up to being writers on a hit sitcom..
The wit in this place is insane, lmao!!
So yeah — when we’re in here it IS a jam session..! Break out our chops and throw down.. because we have that ability..! :o)

Nutshelled — and thank ya for yer time & eyes.. :)

            Thoughts..? Suggestions..? Questions..?
Send a SASE to PO Bo —- heyyyy.. stop throwing stuff at me.. Whazzup wit dat, bro…?? ;o)

          • TapestryMood

We are in agreement…and so was Richard when we talked before this room was created.

          • Unlisted2u

            ^5.. :)

          • TapestryMood

You need to refresh to see my entire comment..I hit post by mistake so had to edit;-( Argh!

          • Unlisted2u

            ‘k
For me that’s an out & in to get the newest.. so will take me a min..

          • Unlisted2u

Oh.. THISSS edit.. Gotcha, duh.. Thot I missed a long more discussion betwixt you two..

        • rg9rts

Give it a chance to develop into what it wants to be. We are in the drivers seat and its what 1 day old?

          • Unlisted2u

            Very good, sah.. :)

    • BornOkayTheFirstTime

If it helps, I recently got to re-see an obscure and (IMHO) underrated movie called Being Human, starring Robin Williams (1994). WB finally got around to releasing it on something other than VHS.

      • Gin1234

On television? That wasn’t the movie where he is a doctor treating a sleep disease, is it? I don’t go to many movies myself, but I think I might go to one next week. I was just wondering about a good one someone might recommend. I was trying out our new echo chamber, too.

        • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Not television, just the *cough* magic of the internet. I can’t remember the last time I went to see a movie in the theater. I’m thinking it might be well over 10 years by now.

          • Gin1234

It’s a nice way to get out during the winter. I can get pretty bad cabin fever.

  • geezer 56

OK, dag nabbit I’m here, Unlisted–?

    • Unlisted2u

      ayup..
Was reading y’all’s convo over there, lol..! ;)

      • geezer 56

        So whassup with Kon?

        • Unlisted2u

I’ll tell ya when the other’s are over here.. where we’re supposed to be..

          • geezer 56

Why can’t you just say it over there?

          • Unlisted2u

Because what’s going on over there is not the example we want to be setting.. We lead, the other’s will follow..

          • geezer 56

            Me not understand. Mongo sleepy!

          • Unlisted2u

            Mongo want cigar, lol!! ;)
No, really — the team here at ET set up this room for us.. Let’s not not use it, ya know..?

          • geezer 56

So, we’re supposed to be here for everything except politics or something? It never was explained to me what the intent was.

          • Unlisted2u

I pretty much think that’s the intent..
            Don’t you..?
EDIT: Actually, I pretty much KNOW that is the intent, ok..

          • geezer 56

Have no idea. I just came to the Agora today & saw people mentioning these other places. Did the mods say something about it, or we’re just operating on conjecture here?

          • Unlisted2u

            It’s wayyy more than conjecture..
All ya need to do is read the paragraph at the top (of each page) to know what the deal is..

Of course they want our silly chit off’n the politics page(s).. Kinda counterproductive otherwise..

          • geezer 56

            OK. I’ll alert the media…

          • Unlisted2u

            ty :)

          • geezer 56

What happens if I accidentally de-compartmentalize my thought processes and let slip something about nuclear disarmament while I’m here? Twenty lashes with a wet noodle?

          • Unlisted2u

I’d actually considered the possibility of potential possible accidental slips.
My thought is if it actually fits into the nonsensical conversation taking place at the time, ya should get a prize of some sort for being able to drop an event-worthy zinger into a sooo-not-serious conversation.. LMAO!! ;o)

          • geezer 56

OK, so do you actually have anything to say about Kon, or was this all just a cruel ruse?

          • Unlisted2u

I actually can tell you about Kon..

          • geezer 56

            …anytime soon…?

          • Unlisted2u

            ROFL!! :D
            Good ‘un, Ma’am..
You’re now on the raincheck prize list..

          • geezer 56

So it WAS a ruse. Cheater.

          • Unlisted2u

            No, seriously..
But first — Seriously, we are not setting a good example right now. We need to be over here.. Anything less, the way I see it, will eventually become an insult to our hosts..
There’s no time like the present to develop this new habit..

Again, look at it this way: We were exiled, We needed shelter from the storm. These nice people actually created a shelter for us. Now they’ve finished with the additions to the home..
            It’s. Time. To. Move.

          • geezer 56

Well, you have me there. I retain the right to bi*ch about it as I see fit, though.

          • Unlisted2u

            Why of course..!
We wouldn’t even WANT it any other way, ya know.. ;o)

          • geezer 56

Just so you know, if I ever want to add one more thing to my Favorites bar, there won’t be room for it now. Feeling grumpy!

          • Unlisted2u

Seriously — you really can get rid of 40 or 50 of those bookmarked astrological sites.. ;p

          • geezer 56

I need EVERY ONE of those, I’ll have you know!

          • Unlisted2u

The withdrawal isn’t THAT bad.. honest..! ;o)

          • Ricki Urban

I agree, U2. This won’t be so difficult once everyone gets with the program!! :D We just need to know where to hang our hat when we get here – that’s all!

          • Unlisted2u

            You gots it..! :)

          • geezer 56

You do realize there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell this will work, right? Getting all these people to get with the program would be like wrangling tabby cats to roll a garden hose up a hill. (Apologies for stealing that line from Garrison Keillor.)

          • Unlisted2u

            Hmmmm, now look at that..
            And in under a half-hour too.. ;o)

          • geezer 56

Tomorrow’s another day & a whole new ballgame. ;) And there are people over there who are still ignoring us.

          • Unlisted2u

And they say donkeys & mules can be stubborn, eh.. ;o)

          • geezer 56

Oh, you have NO idea!!! Oh wait, I thought you were talking about me… ;)

          • Unlisted2u

            LOL..!
Noooo, but you probably can guess..
And that’s all I’m going to say..

          • Ricki Urban

            Geez!!! You are hilarious!! lolz!!

          • geezer 56

            Just dumb and sleepy!

          • rg9rts

            Dumb never

          • Unlisted2u

            She wishes.. ;o)

          • Ricki Urban

            Indeed! lolz!

          • Unlisted2u

            Look at it this way:
We get to play over here.
When something breaks A&T & others will post about it — maybe even drop in a “you really need to read this…” in here.
No fuss, no muss.. no clutter.. Neatness! — what a concept, lol!! ;o)

That’s one reason why I sleep on the couch:-)

          • rg9rts

            Yeah right

          • TapestryMood

The other is hub wakes up and wanders into things…it is easier to keep track from couch ..and prevents stove, microwave, furnace issues, etc..from one spot than getting up and going downstairs and following him around. I miss a bed, darlin’..believe me.

          • rg9rts

            Time for a lazyboy

          • TapestryMood

          • rg9rts

They after effects are the worst. Talking to other victims and we agree that you never really get over it.with the 28 day treatment

          • Unlisted2u

            Fawk noo..
That only works if caught within the first 24-36 hours.. and ya find the tick.. Beyond that it’s waiting for the symptoms to appear, getting miss-Dx’ed for a year — and then by the time they finally figger it out yer up for the 18 month run..

          • rg9rts

4 years non diagnosed including 9 months in the VA system where I saw everyone from a podiatrist to a psychiatrist and did the diagnosis myself.

          • alleypanther

That’s awful Roger. Have the treatments helped?

          • rg9rts

To a degree but you never really recover

          • TapestryMood

I am so sorry you have to deal with it;-)
Yes, I can nap anywhere..but a night’s sleep, need to be down or my back suffers;-(

          • rg9rts

            Hours in the chair

          • Ricki Urban

Oh my, rg! I can’t imagine having to go thru it. Are you totally rehabilitated or do you continue to have problems?

          • rg9rts

Brains are scrambled. Used to read 360 wpm now I can’t keep up with subtitles

          • Ricki Urban

            Horrendous to say the least. :( Although, I do have to say, we had fun that night – and you have great wit and humour! :D I’m realizing your difficulties but you do seem to be a fighter in that you try not to let it get you too down – at least around here! :D {{{hugs}}}

          • rg9rts

Its annoying. Filled out a change of address at the PO and had to ask if it was correct……a masters degree and couldn’t do that simple task….humility

          • Ricki Urban

            :( mwah!

          • rg9rts

You learn to deal with it.Like arthritis

          • TapestryMood

            ♥..I understand…

          • Ricki Urban

Omg, Taps!! I almost forgot to tell you that my elderly neighbor 76 y/o who has Alzheimers was out wandering the streets in nothing but a nightgown last night. I had friends picking me up to go out – around 11pm for some fun and frivolity and she knocks on the window of their car and says she’s lost and doesn’t know where she lives. I was running late from work – thank gawd – and they called and said there’s a lady out here half naked roaming the street. I went flying out of the house and walked her home – the guys had already bundled her up with their coat, scarf, hat, etc – great guys! – and called the police. It was totally heartbreaking! :( It took me about 45 min to convince her to walk up the steps of the house. She was adamant that it wasn’t her house. Anyways, front door locked – I tried two other doors and yelled for someone – and her caregiver shows up – totally clueless she was even missing!!! The freakin’ b##ch was incredibly nonchalant about it – i thought I was going to bust her face in!! – sorry to admit that – but my gawd it was 34 degrees out – and I swear if i had not been running late to go out – she would’ve been found laying the gutter frozen to death. It truly broke my heart! It took the police about 45 min to show up and it was all over by then. Her son is an attorney and I spoke with him this morning – he was so horrified and grateful at the same time. I hope he raises some hell with the police – not to mention the caregiver is gone!!!!!

          • rg9rts

The only up side to the nightmare is she probably won’t remember

          • Ricki Urban

Very true – thankfully! Although, I won’t forget. Totally blew me away. :( And exactly what someone said to me when I stated that I hoped I was never afflicted with Alzheimers – “you won’t even know it”. Scary thought, nonetheless!

          • rg9rts

It will happen more often as the boomers age

          • Ricki Urban

            Indeed! :(

          • alleypanther

Good for you Ricki! We have a 89 yr. old next door too.

          • Ricki Urban

            Thanks, AP! Thankfully, one of the few times I’ve been in the right place, at the right time! I know you’re probably pretty vigilant – I just know that I will be now, too. {{hugs}}

          • Unlisted2u

            That sux..
Son = lawyer = results FAST! tho..

          • TapestryMood

Happens way too often!! I am going to have locks put up way high that need a key as hub gets worse..I have a cell on him all the time when out with GPS and emergency numbers ..and hooked to his belt..may have to see if they have watch ones so he an wear all the time..Each step gets more scary, but I am prepared to do it all..have to..and will;-)

          • Ricki Urban

I know it is not easy for you as it progresses and is very scary – and I wondered about locks up high for her as well – or at least an alarm on the door. Honestly, it wasn’t so much about her getting out as it was with the caregiver’s ‘so what’ attitude. It was really weird to see her reaction! At least her son realizes it’s time to do more to insure her safety tho. I know it can be done – and I think what I really wanted to convey to you is how much I admire you and your resolve as you continue to go thru this – and I had a true taste of what you’re up against last night. Just know, I’m always good if you need an ear and to give you massive {{{{hugs}}}} when you need them!!

          • TapestryMood

I was angry, too about the caretaker..so sad. Thank you..you and Dave and others have been so kind and understanding. I do appreciate it..I shouldn’t have brought it up tonight..sigh..I just feel weird saying I sleep on the couch..LOL;-)
xoxox ((HUGS))) I am heading for some sleep..see you soon, I hope;-)

          • rg9rts

We love you no matter where you sleep

            (((HUGS))) You Sweetie.

          • Ricki Urban

Well, I do, too!! No other reason but that my dvr is in there, it’s totally comfortable and I always fall asleep watching telly!! lolz! So there!!

          • TapestryMood

LOL..I can’t believe my TV hasn’t gone out..I do, too!;-)

          • HessenBalkan

Hi TapestryMood, just wanted to say sorry I didn’t reply to your last reply on one of my posts, but I was away for 2 days and then that “public square” was closed.
Anyway, yes I’m original from Germany but live at the same time in different countries and travel a lot.
And you are right, your country seems mostly interested in soccer when there is world championship or other big events. It’s a pitty because you have some great players/teams. It’s the same with your track and field athlets, they are big stars in Europe but you don’t hear to much of them in the US news.

I know this post has nothing to do with this thread lol….looks bit funny…

          • rg9rts

The US is getting better at the other football too

          • HessenBalkan

            The other football? lol
It’a called Fussball and yes the US is getting good at it, specially the women team.

          • rg9rts

They take their shirt off with the best of them

          • HessenBalkan

            omg….I can’t think of a good reply…. lol…I better go and make a coffee

          • TapestryMood

Ha! don’t let him chase you away..do you remember our USA gal who took her shirt off and waved it after USA women won? She had a sport’s bra on….that’s what he is referring to;-)

          • rg9rts

You see how much attention he pays to US women’s soccer

          • TapestryMood

It was years ago..he might have been a kid;-)

          • rg9rts

Seems like yesterday and she did a great boost for the sports bra industry

          • HessenBalkan

            ssshhh is he gone??

Yes I remember, it was everywhere in the news, here too :-)

          • Unlisted2u

            Fit right in.. :)

          • TapestryMood

Thank you..I appreciate this post..we are in agreement..this is exactly what this thread is about…. conversations…sharing…music..movies..sports..goofing off;-)

      • geezer 56

Whoops, how’d I miss that! Mornin’, RG.

I’ve been meaning to ask: What does your user name mean? Looks like a password.

        • rg9rts

Initials and my first pcs in California. 9 rts means reconnaissance technical squadron

          • geezer 56

Still looks random to me. ;) What’s “pcs”?

          • rg9rts

Permanent Change of Station. Remember the SR 71 black bird? That was the 9th

          • geezer 56

Military-speak isn’t my strong suit, despite my dad having been a lieutenant commander in the Navy. Guess I repressed it all.

          • rg9rts

            Navy brat?

          • geezer 56

Yep. Born on the base in Port Hueneme, even.

          • rg9rts

Bet you rock from side to side when you walk too?

          • geezer 56

Nah, he was a Seabee. Landlubber.

          • rg9rts

Its a job and good civilian opportunities

          • geezer 56

Yeah, he became an aerospace engineer afterward. Even worked on the Space Shuttle program. That was cool. We got to go to Edwards AFB twice to see it land, and one time when Reagan was there one also took off on the back of a 747. Man, that was one freaky sight to see.

            So what do you do?

          • rg9rts

Jack of all trades the last was a shrink. Now retired gardener Bicyclist and annoyer to the planet on line.

          • geezer 56

You mentioned the shrink part before, when I was on the verge of a panic attack, as it happened. ;) Annoyer to the Planet is a big job, though.

          • rg9rts

You only need a few sound bites, look at FAUX

          • Ricki Urban

Glad to know all of this! :D

  • Ricki Urban

Ok – I’m over there climbing the tree of comments and I get close to the top and now I’m here?!! What’s going on? lolz!

    • rg9rts

I thought you’d be at the pub?

      • Ricki Urban

Hiya, rg!! Good to see you! That was last night! :D I guess I can drink here just as easily – right?!

        • rg9rts

And use the potty instead of the loo

        • TapestryMood

Ricki..move up the thread a bit and help me;-)
          Puleeze..;-)

    • geezer 56

      Control issues, I’m guessing…?

  • TapestryMood

Epoch has written descriptions on top for each room..this room is for fun chats, music, pets, movies….just hanging out and having fun.
Agora is for issues and information, etc..makes sense.
Nice to have a hang out….and a more issue oriented thread….IMO..

    • alleypanther

This is where the bar lizards go, ..I’ll be right at home.

      • TapestryMood

BAZINGA…..this is set up for all the fun chats..goofin’..music, etc…fun times;-)

Not so much in Pierce County — some Romnoid politician is holding the County council in his sway — denying that revenue stream to solve their budget issues.

Hopefully the cops will step up and inform his highness they’ve got bigger fish to fry than enforce his outdated rule book.

          • TapestryMood

I am going to have to go on line to keep up there, I see mostly King County stuff…I am heading to bed pretty quick….TTYL..xoxox Taps;-)

          • rg9rts

            TTFN

          • Ricki Urban

Oh noes!! I finally climbed my way up, Taps!! Love you and sweet dreams! Hope to see you tomorrow night – I plan to be here!! mwaahhh!

Danny boy feels the need to lead the way -against- cannabis for too-personal reasons — his brother used to sell drugs; his politician mother made a special deal to rehab him in her own home.

Pretty sweet, huh? I wonder if her “therapy” took hold? The *best* part is; the family name is Roach — no sign of a personal beef there, eh?

I wonder if they lead the Party -against- alcohol quite so adamantly?

Oh, no — another likely double-standard discovered and highlighted.

          • rg9rts

            Houkah with multiple lines

          • TapestryMood

Ahhhh….will have to look at my local head shop;-)

          • alleypanther

Yeah, you know, that scent that attracts Bigfoot.

          • rg9rts

            Back to Denver then

          • Unlisted2u

            BAM! I’m down for a ten-spot..! ;o)

          • alleypanther

You can tell the ones with sore knees, they don’t bend them. {;~)

          • Unlisted2u

And yet they still manage to take our $$s..
Age & practice vs limberness == always a run for the $$s.. ;o)

          • alleypanther

A 100$ dollar bill cures a sprained knee, ..or re-sprains it.

          • Unlisted2u

            True dat.. ;)

          • Ricki Urban

            wth?!

          • TapestryMood

We could..what ‘cha have in mind;-)
So..you think this room is unfair..forced..??
It is what we do most of the time, but nice to have a different room for issues, to me.

          • rg9rts

Slow down. It will come. I already discussed a movie this morning

          • Ricki Urban

I agree, Taps!! What’s in a Room Name? Public Square? Happy Hour? Who cares? As long as we know where to go!! We can still discuss politics here – and everything else- right? And focus solely on politics over on the other! Sounds like a win/win, eh?!

          • Unlisted2u

Somehow I don’t there’s gonna be too much in the way of politics in here.. That’s kinda like having a spaghetti dinner then going out for a dessert of lasagna..

          • geezer 56

            OK. That was good. :)

          • Ricki Urban

            true, U2!! lolz!

          • rg9rts

            Don’t forget the Public House

          • Ricki Urban

Exactly – the Pub!!! Thanks, rg!

          • Richard M

The guidelines are voluntary. Let’s try them out, and see how they work.

      • Unlisted2u

Like I said earlier: “Home at last..” :D

        • alleypanther

{;~) Hey Buddy!! Everything cool now?

          • Unlisted2u

            I think so, yes..
And I’m also furly sure the ET staff think so now as well.. :D

          • alleypanther

Well I didn’t know about this one, it wasn’t mentioned yesterday morning.

          • Unlisted2u

            Yeah.. it was actually..
In one post by Gidon.. but beyond that, ’twas all there was..

    • geezer 56

I’m just tellin ya, if this is where the Superbowl talk’s gonna happen, I’ll be at the Agora talking about any damn thing I please.

      • Unlisted2u

The Super Bowl is fairly radical..
Not sure how political it really is though..

If it takes up BOTH places, I’ll move to Canada. Or the UK.

          • Unlisted2u

I’d go with Canada.. especially from where you’re located.. ;o)

      • TapestryMood

See..that’s the way it should be..invite them to move over here!!

        • geezer 56

Frankly, I’m just relieved it didn’t turn out as Richard envisioned, with separate threads for politics, music, pets, and the environment. Egads.

          • TapestryMood

            Yes..this is hangout..music ..laugh..pets…chat away..any subject…
Agora..politics, issues, world, environment..but will have fun, too…
but, if it ..Agora…gets to be all music, football, etc, it cuts out many other posters, topics…so, we need to move ..shift to here, I hope;-)
Can’t make anyone come here, but I don’t see the problem going to a room geared for music, sports, fun,..???

          • geezer 56

Like I said, this is much better than any the other alternatives, actually. I’m just not done giving Unlisted a hard time about it yet. ;)

          • rg9rts

And all men have the same middle name. This is the conclusion I have reached after years of research, questioning women from coast to coast, A—–e

          • Unlisted2u

            That’s kinda weird.. really..! ;o)

          • rg9rts

And what is your favorite name for his majesty when he screws up??? Huh?? A—–e !!!

          • geezer 56

That’s a tough one–there are so many possibilities, and I have a great vocabulary!

          • rg9rts

Do a poll with your girlfriends. I found this out by accident. I had a womens group and they would gather once a week with their coffee and donuts and one would chime in “Well you know what the A—–e did this week?” and they all knew who she was talking about

          • Ricki Urban

I really don’t like that word – but I do have a few others! :D

          • rg9rts

I didn’t pick it they did.

          • geezer 56

OK, you got me. When he screws up, a-hole is definitely at the top of the list. But usually I call him Bunny. And no, I have no idea how or why I started calling him that…

          • rg9rts

That is a task for disqus

          • Aquarius 1027

    • MagnaDave

      Goodnight!

      • geezer 56

MD, did you get your audio working?

        • MagnaDave

No, not yet. I lost track of BornOK but that’s all right. We’ll get it figured out one of these days. I think I’ll be signing off soon so I guess I’ll say goodnight and have a great evening.

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

*waves* I’m not sure what happened, but your info didn’t get over to me for a while. I sent you a couple belated replies. Maybe you can check back and see if you got those, and if they’re of any use?

          • MagnaDave

            Will do. Thanks!

          • MagnaDave

OK, I bookmarked that page and will try tomorrow when I’m more awake. Do you think if I reinstall the drivers they will rewrite the old ones? I have a feeling that I have the right drivers but Linux is trying to use the wrong one. Also, is there a way to “reinstall” Linux over my existing installation without losing bookmarks, etc?

I ran the diagnostic program and it listed “soundcard 0″ about four or five times. I think maybe I have too many drivers.

The other thing is that I seem to remember that i have no sound in Windows, either, and Device manager doesn’t show the soundcard as being disabled. Maybe it’s a hardware problem.

The most annoying thing is that there is a Linux program that allegedly allows one to choose which sound card to use but it doesn’t even load, much less, work.

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

There might be a repair install option with Ubuntu, but I’m not sure what it’ll do. I’m thinking of paving my test VM and installing with a newer version (my Ubuntu install is so old it’s not letting me update it anymore), so if I see something like that I’ll take notes. Usually though, the most thorough way is backup /home, reformat, reinstall, restore (though things have to be really screwed up before there’s absolutely no way to repair the OS).

However, the instructions for reinstalling the subsystem look pretty aggressive, and hopefully should force all the plug ‘n play stuff and might straighten out the issues. If you’re seeing multiple devices, something’s definitely FUBAR.

          • MagnaDave

Well, I gave some things a try and it isn’t looking too good. I can’t reinstall the audio drivers (which would have purged the old ones) because I get an error message saying that the “aptitude” command is nit recognized.

I did notice that when I did a hardware check it seemed to list the right sound card but said that access to the device was denied:

01:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs CA0106 Soundblaster
Subsystem: Creative Labs SB0570 [SB Audigy SE]
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 17
            I/O ports at bc00 [size=32]
            Capabilities:
            Kernel driver in use: snd_ca0106
            Kernel modules: snd-ca0106

          • Unlisted2u

Did you ever have a reason to need to move those tiny jumper clips on the card..?

          • MagnaDave

No, it’s a built-in card, probably on the motherboard. The problem seems to be that i installed a new videocard, which installed new multimedia software. The card eventually overheated and failed, so i removed it. That’s when the sound stopped working.

          • Unlisted2u

            Oooohhhh.. ok..
Fried = coulda done done anything to anything.. which right there puts things beyond my very limited scope.. Sorry..
Good thing we have Born with us.. :)

          • MagnaDave

Thanks for the help. It is really appreciated.

          • Unlisted2u

            Big help, ha!
Only reason I even mentioned it is cos I had picked up a used a sound card that shipped with a different default interrupt. Moved the jumper and it still didn’t work.. Couldn’t figure why not until discovering I’d slid the clip onto the incorrect post, duhhh..

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

I’m not sure I’ve seen a sound card made in this century that still has IRQ jumpers on it. PCI steering eliminated the need.

          • Unlisted2u

            Yup..
This went back a ways.. Most likely was for a Win 98 machine..but possible it was for a Win95..

          • Aquarius 1027

Hi, Dave! – Do not ever look to me for answers to any questions you may have about the “aptitude” for your audio drivers. – The only thing I know how to drive is a car. Hope whatever it is works out for you!

          • MagnaDave

Thanks. It’s very frustrating. I figured out how to get past the “aptitude” problem but that only led to another one. But, I’ll keep trying, lol.

          • Richard M

Same for me, AQ. I hope MD can get that resolved, but his tech info may as well be in Sanskrit, for all the heads R tails I can make of it.

          • MagnaDave

OK, the “access denied” is meaningless. Sigh…

          • Aquarius 1027

Yikes! – I think I have entered a twilight zone where people speak in strange languages.

          • Unlisted2u

            Watt due ewe mean..? ;o)

          • Aquarius 1027

Well, there is one acronym that I learned back in the late 60′s from my older male cousins. Something with car repairs at the time. – THAT part of the post I understood completely. FUBAR! ;)

          • Unlisted2u

FUBAR = Guess we go shopping now.. lol not so much.. :-/

          • Aquarius 1027

:) Must finally get some sleep. Hope your day goes well, U2.

          • MagnaDave

OK, I replaced “aptitude” with “apt-get” and now I get a message that “reinstall” is an invalid operation.

It appears that the driver for my soundcard is missing.

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

apt-get and aptitude are different but related programs. You might have to install aptitude.

            sudo apt-get install aptitude

That should bring it in and the aptitude command should work.

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Also, the lspci info did seem to indicate that it had found a driver and had loaded it (“Kernel driver in use: snd_ca0106″). One other thing you could do is type:

            cat /proc/interrupts

Look for a line that mentions snd_ca0106. If the number after the : is greater than 0, then the driver and the device are talking at some level at least. If it’s 0, the lights are on but nobody’s home.

          • MagnaDave

            I HAVE SOUND!

I installed aptitude, ran the purge and reinstall command from the website you gave me, uninstalled the old Soundblaster card that I completely forgot was installed, switched from digital to analog output, and voila! Sound!

Not sure which item or combination thereof fixed the problem but it’s working now.

Thank you, thank you, a thousand times thank you!

Also, apparently, the latest version of Ubuntu does have a repair installation option available but I won’t be needing it now which saves me a couple hours of downloading time.

            Thanks again!

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Excellent. You are now officially obligated to partake in the music sharing festivities!

          • MagnaDave

I will join in later tonight. I’m really tired now. I did listen to a video that I’ve wanted to hear for months now. I’ll share it when I come back.

Thanks again! I appreciate both you patience and you’re helpfulness, not to mention you’re knowledge.

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

No problem. I figured you had already checked out for the night and I was spitballing ideas I wasn’t expecting you to read until tomorrow/later today.

          • Aquarius 1027

Heading to bed soon. How about you? – I used to work a shift all night and come home and stay up until 10 or 11am! But to function at all later in the day, must get some sleep. – And a huge pot of coffee for around noon. :)

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Still up from yesterday, not currently tired, and not expecting sleep anytime soon.

          • Aquarius 1027

Yes, know exactly how that can go! – My longest time with no sleep was in grad school when I stayed up for a paper and still had to do clinical rotations. A very long 48 hours and 35 minutes – had the best sleep ever when it was done. :) – Just please stay safe if you are driving.

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

No worries. No plans to be going anywhere anytime soon, and fortunately I’m starting to feel a little fuzzy around the edges. I’d like to stay up long enough to see the breaking New Jersey political disaster news that’s supposed to be breaking, but that doesn’t come for another hour yet.

          • Ricki Urban

K – you could post some tunez!! Seems I’m the only one at the moment! We could have duel! lolz!

          • Aquarius 1027

That is a good description for sleep deprivation! – Speaking of which, must finally get some sleep. I admire your computer expertise, you are light years ahead of me. – Hope you sleep well today. :)

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

34 years of dealing with the monsters, so I guess I eventually learned a thing or two. Have a good snooze!

          • Richard M

Been that and done there, way to many times!

          • Aquarius 1027

Hi, Richard! – Sorry I missed you. Yes, it can be amazing what we will do when motivated! May I ask what you studied? – If you are watching the game, enjoy the Super Bowl and hope your day goes well. :)

          • Ricki Urban

I know, we’ve talked about this before! I do try to go down before 7am but then it turns into 10am!! Sleep has become a commodity for me working two jobs – finding the balance can be really tough. I can rarely come home and just go to sleep!

          • Aquarius 1027

Yes! – yet the diversions and fun are needed if only for awhile. I missed a lot in past years but so glad I ventured onto HP in 2012. Their disintegration forced me to navigate further in cyberspace. – Must finally get some of that elusive sleep, all the best for you. :)

          • Ricki Urban

            Sweet dreams, Aquarius. Hope to see you sooner than later! {hugs}

          • Richard M

Respect! I have no jobs, yet still no sleep……Or damnably little, as the case may be.

          • Richard M

Not to mention a Texassian contingent!

          • rg9rts

Don’t forget the pokey nose bunch

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

True, I think we might want to expand it statewide to a Pennsylvania contingent so we can muscle out these Florida punks. =)

We’re just working for the greater good, no cover charges and change boxes.

          • Ricki Urban

Oh, I see – that’s what they all say! Sounds like the ch!t will be hitting the fan any day now – just listening to your PA system has me convinced! :D

          • Unlisted2u

I think we can nick them for protection insurance.. ;o)

          • Ricki Urban

Right on, U2! They’ll never know what hit ‘em! :D

          • Unlisted2u

Ya just catch ‘em their 1st time through the door and they think that’s just the way it is every day..

          • Ricki Urban

            Totally agree, my friend!! :D

          • Unlisted2u

I’ll set up the booth by the door, you go get the the stamp & blacklight.. ;o)
Oh, and a decent change box.. with at least 3 slots for bills..

          • Ricki Urban

The change box is crucial tho – no matter what bill they tender, there will always be change whether they like it or not! And I do love the blacklight! :D

          • Unlisted2u

            Kewl..!
Kinda figgered you’d be down with that.. ;o)

          • Ricki Urban

Ha! How’s your bike coming along? Looking to get her on the road sometime soon?!

          • Unlisted2u

The carbs are done.. My buddy had to deliver a piece of heavy equipment up this way yesterday, so he swung by & we loaded the bike on his lowboy to take back to his shop n put things back together there.. That way if anything messes up he has all the traps for catching fluids.. unlike my garage..
He used to have the identical bike — so he’ll put it through its paces. If everything’s still tight after he’s done riding it, it’s all systems go. If anything fails, it’s right there by his tools. Doesn’t get any better than that.. :)

          • Ricki Urban

Progress! Excellent! You know it, U2!! Great to have friends like him – he knows what he’s doing! Sounds like you’ll be on the road sooner than later! :D I have a good friend – certified mechanic – work on my car and he blew a rod – standing there watching and listening wasn’t the most wonderful sound I’ve ever heard!! We just now started back talking – I had to buy a new engine! But he eff’d up – it happens. Sorry to bring a negative to a positive here! When he repairs my power steering pump, we’ll be as good as new! :D

          • Unlisted2u

Stuff happens.. Most likely was ready to go anyhow tho..
Yup.. he is a former certified Yamaha mechanic.. and this scoot goes back to the years he worked as one. Complete faith in him. He wrenches our other vehicles too.

And speaking of 7AM — I do believe we’re there.. So I’m gonna bail for now.. Take care for now.. & will catch you l8r..

            Byez byez.. :)

          • Ricki Urban

Indeed! I’m headed out as well! Sleep well ….. and hope you’re feeling better, btw! See you next time! :)

Has anyone else had their profile frozen? When I click my comment history, there are no new entrees after 12 hours ago, or so.

    • rg9rts

Had that happen yesterday seems to correct itself when you change sites. Maybe an updating issue?? Except for now

    • BungeeCord

I’ve had that issue, but only with ET. When I post on other sites using Disqus my comments and replies show up on my Dashboard. Refreshing still doesn’t make them show up.

      • Richard M

        Curiouser & curiouser!

      • chezmoi

There’s been dodgy stuff happening for some time between Disqus and ET, hence the need for new pages. I wonder if we aren’t overloading their circuits somehow with all our chitchat? We probably generate more sheer volume than any of the rest of Disqus’ clients. That’s bound to heat up the bearings.

    • Cynthia W.

Oh, really? I’ve been doing that for days, and I now have a backache. You people keep me up too late.

      • rg9rts

No one is keeping you up…..you are an ET addict…..look into the screen…..

        • Cynthia W.

That’s true. Guess I can’t play the “blame game”.

    • rg9rts

      You frak?

      • Richard M

        Figuratively speaking, yes.

  • BungeeCord

Since this is apparently the “OT” place, I have a car question that hopefully someone can help me with.
Even with the clutch pedal pinned to the floor, it grinds a little shifting from 1st to 2nd. It happens most often when cold, but not always. When it was -20F, it ground a little going from 3rd to 4th once. I have less than 30K miles on the car, and my last 6spd had ~75K before I sold it–no transmission problems with that one ever. It’s no longer under warranty and “diagnostic” charges are $125/hr.

    • BornOkayTheFirstTime

      What’s the make/model?

      • BungeeCord

        ’10 bmw 335xi

        • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Hm. I had a VW Jetta with a sealed transmission. Glad to hear that isn’t what you have; I started having transmission problems and it turned into a nightmare.

Have you checked the transmission fluid to make sure it’s good? Both level and quality (if it’s grinding, it’s possible the fluid might have scalding). There might also be a filter that needs to be cleaned/replaced. The owner’s manual might have some more specific details about checking the fluid.

I’m guessing that $125 rate is a dealership? You might be able to find a local shop that specializes in imports that would give you a much better deal out of warranty.

          • BungeeCord

The ex tossed the manual during one of his rages, and so far the $125 rate has been the lowest I could find. I suspect that as soon as they hear “bmw” they up the price.

The tranny fluid seems fine, although it’s due for service within 1K miles (according to the OBC).

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Well, at the very least you ought to be able to find a PDF of your manual here: http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/owner/dgh.aspx — better than not having one at all.

Unfortunately, I don’t have anything else I can think of right now.

    • malta123

Check the brake / clutch master cylinder for low fluid levels, check the clutch cable for stretching and / or adjustment if it’s cable operated.

The clutch driven plate is not parting, hence the gear box crunch, it must be one of those items from the symptoms you describe.

      • BungeeCord

If I tell the shop that, do you think they’d give me a discount? lol

        • malta123

lol….nope, but at least they will know you are not a sucker, as one of our businesses, my brother and I ran an MOT service station in the past, we were always fully cognisant of customers who were clued up and we made sure we didn’t over-charge them.

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

. . . But still milked the clueless suckers?

          • malta123

No, seriously, we were good guys and it paid off. The auto industry is littered with scam artists and untrained idiots, but there are some good garages out there…look for recommendations from other customers.

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Ha, good. I just found it amusing that you mentioned how the clued folks were treated but not the dummies. I’ve probably spent a few hundred hours working on cars, not enough to be an expert but good enough to know what all I don’t know. I’ve got earned respect for people who can do it professionally.

          • malta123

Both of us are qualified engineers, it’s the only way to go, unless you can find an indy with a recognised apprenticeship scheme.

BTW, the other thing to check, is the clutch release thrust bearing, if the factory prepacked grease has leaked, it can cause a hell of a grinding noise when you press the clutch pedal down.

          • rg9rts

It is investment in software programs that can run $50,000 that has eliminated the shade tree people. My guy has limited his shop to VW Audi and Volvo only. He can keep up with the equipment changes ad make back his investment.. $125 an hour using the wrench or not

          • malta123

Very true, rg, I have an Autel diagnostics code reader, it picked up the auto gearbox fault on my vehicle, but it still cost me £1200, at a Mercedes main dealers, that’s where I went yesterday, there’s no after market software or electronic parts available, and Mercedes won’t sell them to you, and in any case, I don’t have the MOT station facilities anymore.

          • BungeeCord

For me it’s rather embarrassing because my dad taught auto-mechanics / auto-technology up until the day he died.
            What is MOT?

          • malta123

“Ministry of Transport” inspection, every year, vehicles here, are required by law to have a safety inspection, the clutch is not part of the test, but would been attented to by us, as a side issue.

          • malta123

Sorry to hear that, an auto technician in the family is worth his weight in gold, quite apart from emotional support etc, I still miss my Pop and he passed away when he was 58, some 30 odd years ago.

          • BungeeCord

Mine didn’t make it to 50.

          • rg9rts

            Its not genetic

          • BungeeCord

Maybe not, but I was really good at rebuilding carburetors at the kitchen table when I was eight.

        • rg9rts

          124.95 instead of 125

    • Intolerantcentrist

Guessing it’s the “throw-out” bearing. This is the part that disengages the clutch plate from the fly wheel when you press down on the clutch pedal. If it’s malfunctioning, the clutch doesn’t disengage from the fly wheel completely, the gear box will still be turning and the gears will grinds as you try to shift.

      • malta123

Spot on mate. Here, we call it the clutch relaease bearing.

        • Intolerantcentrist

In the old days, this wasn’t that big of a project. Today with technology, I’m pretty sure this is a dealer repair issue.
Back in those old days, High School, I had to constantly help a friend with the clutch/throw-out bearing in his 1969 Chevy Chevelle, SS 396. From a standing start, he had great fun running the engine to the “red line” (about 5500 rpm), putting the transmission in 2nd gear and “dump” the clutch. The tires would smoke for at least 75 feet; he’d shift out of 2nd gear at about 90 mph. Yes it was awesome, but once every few months it was back under the car….

          • rg9rts

My roomate had a 67 chevelle 396/425 that he would throw slicks on and run low 13′s stock

          • Intolerantcentrist

            Fun, Fun times!

          • rg9rts

Oh yeah and straight from the show room

      • BungeeCord

Crap. That sounds expensive. I’m hoping that if I go [back] in there and sound like I know at least a little bit about what I’m talking about, that it won’t cost quite as much. I know it’s probably naive though.

        • Intolerantcentrist

          You may be right.
I would hope that the car is engineered in such a way that this somewhat routine serviced part is easily (relatively cheaply)
to repair. I wouldn’t wait to have it fixed. The last thing you want is to
          replace the gear box too..

        • Richard M

Got that right, mate. Give it a try, then get your second opinions.
dealers ‘ell gouge you, though, an that’s no matter of pinnon!

          • rg9rts

I’d say synchros as my pinnion

          • malta123

Not directly, but could be buggered as a result, if the box has been crunching for some time.

        • malta123

I think you may be lucky, as long as the synchro’s haven’t been chipped if the box has been crunching for some time.

    • rg9rts

Slave cylinder might be going. Judging by this thread we can kiss the arts goodbye

  • Cynthia W.

Yea….Supertramp, so much more enjoyable to listen to than pretty boy Justin Blubber, when are you guys going to send him back?

          • Cynthia W.

Well, Obama has the petition on his desk along with the pipeline petitions. I think the Beib’s is on top.

          • malta123

Sooner the better, what a spoilt brat.

        • chezmoi

You look quite fine in this one. You must be feeling much better, I hope?

          • Cynthia W.

Oh yes, thank you. My problem now is overstaying at night and falling asleep on the keyboard.

          • chezmoi

Hmm. Time to get a nerf keyboard.

  • Canukistani

Good morning one and all. On my way to breakfast, but I can offer this along the way to get the day started …

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0TInLOJuUM

    • Cynthia W.

Love “Morning Has Broken” However, I just have to ask—are you the one that broke it?

      • malta123

Breakin’ in, great melody line and Cat’s ok, but I confess I still like
        Neil Diamond’s version.

      • Canukistani

Hey it was like this when I found it…I swear it was!

  • malta123

Larger testicles have been linked to a greater propensity to unfaithfulness. Is that true, or is it all a load of balls? Come in……. rg.

    • Canukistani

I don’t know about that but I’d rather have snowballs than no balls at all.

      • malta123

Good early morning riposte…you must have had a good night…..G

        • Canukistani

It was, indeed. Out for dinner with friends and then a good night’s sleep. The weather’s not even too bad today, sunny and 17 F. Life is good! You?

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

Hey, mornin’ all. How do you rate? We’re only at 16 so far, but we’re going up to 40 today. Try and beat that.

          • Canukistani

Not likely. We’re expecting 10-15 cm of snow tonight too.

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

We were supposed to get rain, but now they’ve changed the forecast to ice and snow for tomorrow, but the next few days are not going to be fun if the météo is correct.

          • Canukistani

Winter is such a delight! And tomorrow is groundhog day. Again! Seems like we just had one last year!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

Perhaps delightful for you, but my Mustang isn’t too keen on it. It likes to go up hills sideways when the snow hits.

          • Canukistani

Winter driving is when you really get hands-on experience with the laws of inertia. There are lots of tests of your understanding of them too.

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

Luckily, I learned to drive on ice. The first time my father let me drive the pickup on the roads was on ice. He said if I could handle that, I could drive anyplace. I was 14 at the time.

          • Canukistani

He was sure right about that! We have a fair number of drivers here who never seem to learn those lessons even though they get schooled every single winter.

          • Cynthia W.

            Hey, you look different–nice !!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

Thanks for noticing. I just found the photo this morning and added it. It’s the closest pic I could find of my buddy. Still miss him terribly. Disqus went back and added it to most of my old comments too. How neat is that?

          • Cynthia W.

Yes, I noticed that. If you go to the other sites, you may have to refresh in order to see it, but after that it’s fine.

          • malta123

Ahhhh….so sorry to hear that, what happened, if it’s not too painful to ask?

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

He was 14 when he passed away two years ago, from kidney stones. I got him as a pup from the SPCA. I wanted one ever since I saw 101 Dalmatians as a kid in the 50′s at the drive in. We had just moved back here to NY from Cape Cod, were here for a month and he was having trouble going potty, so I took him to the vet’s, they were going to operate on him the next morning, and he passed away overnight at the vet’s office.

          • Cynthia W.

I’m so sorry for you. Have you thought of adopting one? If you want a dalmatian, they may be able to keep an eye out for you.

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

I would love to, but being retired and dependent on SS and my not-well reimbursed teaching job as an adjunct at the college, I really can’t see it happening. He cost me a small fortune over the years at the vet’s office. Seemed like every time we went there, it was over a grand.

          • Cynthia W.

Wow. That’s a lot of money. I have 3 cats, but keeping them indoors cuts down a lot on vaccinations and vet visits from injuries. Can’t do that with a dog.

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

We’ve (my sister and brother and I) have always had dogs. They’re both retired and say the same thing. If they get sick, the vet bills can be astronomical. He had a few teeth removed at the vet’s a few years ago and it cost me almost $1200.

          • malta123

Oh…Lor, that’s a terrible thing to happen when you were going to the vet, the very next day. it’s absolutely heart breaking and nothing said on here will compensate, other than to say, I know how you feel….x

          • Canukistani

What a great pic! He looks very intelligent too.

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

He was the smartest dog I’ve ever seen. He could tell just by the way I dressed in the morning what to expect. Lots of Dals are deaf from inbreeding, but he heard everything and understood completely.

          • Canukistani

He looks like he’s ready to say something, and I don’t mean the doggy speak thing, I mean in words.

          • Unlisted2u

            Speaking of looking different.. ;o)

          • Canukistani

Yeah, I thought at first maybe it was her hair, but no. It’s the dolphins. Looks great too.

          • Cynthia W.

            Aw. Thanks.

          • Unlisted2u

            :)
And am back out for now..
Just read my horoscope and it said: “What are you doing awake..?” lol!!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

So do you. It’s really cool.

          • malta123

Hey…what a great avatar, Wolfgang says it must be catching….

          • malta123

Not too bad thanks, still recovering from a horrendous bill on my Mercedes. Drove up North to pick it up yesterday, hit the mountains and Mrs M’s Citroen C1 hit hard packed snow and slid out to the opposite side of the highway, apart from that, back home it’s P*****ing down with rain as usual, I don’t ever recall Vancouver being like that, even in winter, they cleared the highways.

          • Canukistani

Ouch! I know Mercedes repairs aren’t cheap either. Do you belong to the Mercedes owners’ group there?

          • malta123

I am, yes, but of no help re: electronic or ECU parts, it’s a main dealer job only.

          • Canukistani

Ugghh! I guess sometimes there’s nothing to do but grin and bear it. Well, ok, you don’t have to grin.

          • malta123

Is a grimace, half a grin?

          • Unlisted2u

I believe a grimace is actually a polite way of telling someone to go screw themselves and the company they rode in on.. ;)

          • malta123

Or even, an impolite way of saying… F off….lol

          • Unlisted2u

            True dat..
But I was at least trying to be ‘polite’.. ;o)

          • Cynthia W.

Being a nurse, I’ve always associated a grimace with pain.

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

We don’t care about politeness as long as you bring civility to the forum. This is the grown-up internet after all.

          • malta123

Oh! .. Sarah, pensez-vous qu’il méritait, je pense qu’il essayait seulement d’être drôle.

          • Lindstr7

Ah, Malta, I feel your pain. My subaru just got new head gasket, clutch, timing belt, 90K service, etc and I’m still reeling from the sticker shock. I’m hoping, oh well, at least that’s taken care of since I’m taking a long road trip right now. Had to be done right!?

          • malta123

I’m afraid you’re right, the main stealers whack it on, but for the most part you get a professional job with a cast iron guarantee, if anything goes wrong with the work.

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Ouch. I had to get the head gasket done on my Subaru around 90K (and not something you can just pass on if it’s needed). Expensive, but not as bad as the exhaust system at 100K.

          • Lindstr7

            That’s one expensive exhaust system!

          • Unlisted2u

Did you sleep at all? — or you still rollin’..?

          • Canukistani

Now there’s a nice good morning smile :-)

          • Unlisted2u

            ty :D
And a jolly G’day to you, Nuk.. :)

          • malta123

You guessed it….still rockin’ from the shock!

          • Unlisted2u

            oof!
But as you called it too tho.. Soooo..
Have no idea what I’m doin’ up yet.. Will head back in a few I’m sure..

          • malta123

            Heavy coffee dosage required.

          • Unlisted2u

            Ah, yesss..
I’m curious — how come no one told Bungee to check the recall sites..? That clutch issue may very well be a known issue and is still being taken care of ‘under warranty’..

          • malta123

It could be, it only has 30k on it, but we don’t how long he’s had it and besides, the those issues would be considered “service items”, subject to fair wear and tear.

          • Unlisted2u

Well, you just said it — fair wear & tear.
It’s just barely out of warranty on the time side and not out of warranty on the mileage side.
I know I’d pizzed if it was my ‘new’ car..
OTOH — In this day & age, not springing for the extended warranty is just asking for problems — especially if your payments exceed the warranty period by a factor of +- two..

          • malta123

Me too, but with the clutch, they will always try the fair wear & tear get out clause, first.

          • Unlisted2u

Ok, now I know for sure I’m not really awake yet..
The reason I asked you the initial question is cos I kinda just looked at yer avi and “determined” you were Ricki U, lmao — in a stoopid sense of the phrase.. duhhhh.. :)

          • malta123

lol…picked up on it, but was too polite to say: go back to bed.

          • Unlisted2u

            Yezzir..
Am on my way as I type..
Sooo, I’ll say l8rz g8rz raht now & be on my way.. ;)

          • Ricki Urban

            ha!

          • TapestryMood

            Men;-)

          • Ricki Urban

I know! {eye roll!} Good morning, Taps!! :D I left this board at 7am and here I am again! I had to take a phone call and now I need to get sleepy again! :D Any fun plans for the day? :)

          • TapestryMood

You go back to sleep…that’s my plan right now, too…didn’t get much with my pinched nerve so trying again;-)
Chores are the list today….joy joy happy feet..not;-)
I will look for you tonight if you aren’t out having fun..muwah;-P

          • Ricki Urban

Yes, we do need some good sleeps! (especially, in ‘handling’ these guys!) I hope you can get some with your pinched nerve – painful. :( hope to see you later, too. mwah!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

Maybe not. I had a Chevy Cavalier that I blew the clutch on, and they determined it was a malfunction in the design, and Chevrolet paid for it. I only had to pay for the tow job.

          • Unlisted2u

            BINGO!

          • malta123

It’s always worth a try, Mrs M’s Citroen C1 was fixed 2 years out of warranty for a door seal problem, I wrote to the MD in UK and they conceded.

          • Richard M

            Nice new Av, Sarah!

          • Ricki Urban

Hey! just woke up to a phone call…. but i’m headed back to the pillow! Saw your post below! lolz! See you laterz! Get some sleep!!! lolz!

          • Unlisted2u

            Har..! :)
I DID go back to sleep, finally — and then got awoken wayyy tooo early, again, by my neighbor pounding on the door..
But I really couldn’t be angry about it.. cos I’d been down to his place a couple days ago to borrow his plumber’s snake.. and he brought it up to me just then.

Ah well — seems sleep deprivation is my close friend lately..

          • chezmoi

Woopsie! Plus de peur que du mal, j’éspère.

          • malta123

Vous avez raison, mais c’était un rasage de près, comme on dit en anglais.

    • Cynthia W.

I would guess that it would be true. It would take a lot for a man to risk cheating on his wife. At the same time, they would make for a larger target when his wife found out.

      • Sarah Sahasbeen

I think it’s mostly the ones with the low-hangers who cheat.

    • rg9rts

BS its called sharing the wealth

      • malta123

Or in the case of rednecks, sharing your trailer with the wife and the girlfriend….Am I learning?

        • alleypanther

You’re learning and that actually happened right across the street from me 17 yrs. ago! ..They were actually on the Maury Povich Show! {;~) …You have earned your Southern Degree!

        • rg9rts

True story. One of the earliest winners of the local lottery was so happy that when he showed up for the promo shot he had his arm around his wife and the other around the girlfriend and they were all grinning ear to ear

      • TapestryMood

        =^!^= Ppffttt…tsk tsk…

        • rg9rts

Another comment that has the mods shaking their heads

          • TapestryMood

            :-D xoxo to MONSTA..poor baby;-)

      • Cynthia W.

        Hsssssssssssssssss!!!

        • rg9rts

It must be true I read it on the internet

  • Sarah Sahasbeen

Gotta go for now. Have to run to the pharmacy for my scrips, then on for supplies for the pantry. It’s starting to look like Old Mother Hubbard lives here. Be back later.

    • Canukistani

      Later!

    • malta123

      Cheers…G

  • malta123

Amanda Knox convicted for the second time, did she, or didn’t she? Wolfgang has always smelt a rat on this one.

    • Cynthia W.

      Wolfgang is probably correct.

      • malta123

Yup…she usually is, takes her time, but invariably comes up with a well considered decision, based on the evidence.

    • Gin1234

And in between she was found not guilty. What’s up with that?

      • malta123

A lot, the trials are a total sham, a total disgrace, an unmitigated disaster for jurisprudence.

        Flawed from start to finish.

The trials have served neither the defendants or the prosecution.

Mistrials should be declared and the matter moved to the international courts of justice.

        What’s wrong with that?

        • Gin1234

Can’t believe that the prosecutor was allowed to get away with his fabricated story of a sex game being played and cults and all that crap, especially when he has the background he does. Why was he even allowed to continue with the case? Why can they have multiple trials for the same thing, and come out with all different decisions. I think this case is so screwed up that they should just let it be and drop it. The defendants have already spent time in prison for something they may not have even done. I don’t think there is enough evidence to find Amanda and her boyfriend guilty. There is no physical evidence at all, and why are the sentences all so different?

          • rg9rts

            Trying to save face

          • Gin1234

They could save bigger face by just ending the whole fiasco.

          • rg9rts

We are talking the Italians here

          • malta123

Exactly, material and DNA evidence was lacking, was it due to the ineptitude of both the defence and the prosecution?

That would be for the international courts to determine and as a parent of the deceased, you would want the trial to be conducted outside of the Italian judicial system which has proved to be incapable of providing proper evidence beyond all reasonable doubt, in either direction.

        • http://ranchero42.wordpress.com/ ranchero42

Nothing. Problem is; it appears much of the botched evidence-gathering would result in the evidence being deemed inadmissible — certainly by any court within a system that believes the word “justice” is rife with meaning?

          • rg9rts

We are talking Italian style here

          • http://ranchero42.wordpress.com/ ranchero42

Right, but — the suggestion was made that justice could finally be done elsewhere — I fell short of proposing a long-term solution. As in: any court case with the potential for marring foreign relations should be conducted with the aid of an international investigating body.

Less chance of preconceived notions being outlined ahead of time, or investigators attempting to arrive at those conclusions while ignoring other possibilities.

I don’t think I’m alone in feeling those concerns were ever addressed sufficiently while the initial investigation was underway.

          • rg9rts

How many times have they convicted Berlusconi?

          • http://ranchero42.wordpress.com/ ranchero42

Pretty sure the Italians have come full circle and re-enabled Mussolini’s favored oligarchy — fascism by any other name?

I’d be surprised to learn that Italians were *not* leading the assault against prosecuting the Guantanamo detainees in U.S. military courts.

It seems pretty heinous to suggest Italian prosecuting authorities would use a case such as this one to compound something THEY deem “witch hunt” by coming up with a domestic variant — but I can see no logic to anything they’ve done so far — at least as this Amanda Knox case goes.

          • rg9rts

Italian logic is an oxymoron in this case

          • malta123

It’s a shame, I have an Italian pal of mine, a retired lawyer in Rome, who is the antipathy of that, cool, calm, scholarly and fair minded, but you mix politics and jurisprudence with emotion and you get muddy wine without clarity.

          • malta123

I don’t believe that would be the case, DNA evidence is admissible ad infinitum.

    • rg9rts

Italian justice looks like a bunch of boobs, the botch the DNA evidence and still can’t put away Berlisconi

  • Sharyn

Hey, can I get a Colorado Bulldog and a Vodka Collins?

    Thanks Epoch.

    • Unlisted2u

      Yez U kan..
      Hyah Sharyn — How U today.. :)

      • Sharyn

A bit flu-ish but happy and all that. Thanks. I know you’re as great as ever ;)

        • Unlisted2u

Sleep-deprived covers it quite well, thank ya..

    • Unlisted2u

      Ooohhh, a drive-by, eh..
Well see if THIS hitch hiker ever tries to flag you down for a ride again.. ;p

      • Sharyn

Ha ha! Okay I will keep an eye out.

        • Unlisted2u

          ;p

  • Lindstr7

What the what!? I feel like I just found the secret clubhouse!

    • Unlisted2u

      ;)

      • Lindstr7

Is this where they put the troublemakers lol.

        • Unlisted2u

          You mean us..?
          Yes.. :D

    • Unlisted2u

Yup — ET built us a romper room.. :)

      • Lindstr7

        Cool beans! Bartender!!

        • Unlisted2u

          Drinks are free too.. :)
I’m sure I don’t need to mention the responsible imbibment policy to you.. ;)

          • Lindstr7

Um, yeah sure, I’m real responsible. I never drink and comment. (hey, guess where I am, Pueblo CO! where everything is greener!)

          • Unlisted2u

Kewl.. Saw that whilst scrolling down the other page..
We (community) has a ‘friend’ in Pueblo.. but he hasn’t found here yet.. and I havn’t seen him since Dec 10.. Otherwise I’d put you in touch to go catch the sights..

          • Lindstr7

Lol, no sights today but white white and more white, still snowing and may continue for a few days. I think I’ll stay put and just enjoy myself for a day or two. Big bronco’s fans here and I guess I’ll root for Seattle since I lived there for a bit. Was a pretty drive up here though. Hows things mit vous.

          • Unlisted2u

They are good for the most part..
Just finished yet another round of ABs tho, trying to knock out the last shards of whatever that new vicious bug going around.. Other than that all’s well. Was really cold here for 3 days too.. First warmup day today. Had been 50s & 30s.. colder up Ricki’s way..

          • Lindstr7

How far south are you again? Not sure I ever caught that.

          • Unlisted2u

            East central FL..
I live pretty much directly across the Indian River from the (now old) VAB on The Cape..

          • Lindstr7

Ah, okay. What is your views regarding east coast vs. west and anywhere in between lol. If you could pick and choose, would you have a preference?

          • Unlisted2u

With removal of earthquake factors & fault lines there’s no question I’m way more in love with the Left Coast..
Plus western inland mountain areas over Appalacians too..

          • Lindstr7

Ah! okay, well I can tell you that I agree with your assessment. I am sad to have had to sell my house in Pacifica, but moving on and all that. Would you apply my same question to the state of FL, I’ve lived in Ft. Laud in my college days for a bit and that area is overpriced and over populated. EyelashViper mentioned a little town called Gulfport in the St. Petersburg area. Looks like lots of tiny little fixer upper houses there, but I suppose I’ll just have to get there and get a feel for the different areas. It’s very important to drink TONS of water when you’re sick you know, just a friendly reminder.

          • Unlisted2u

I’m trying to remember exactly where Gulfport is.. Think it’s just N of Tampa-St.Pete area, but I honestly do not know that area at all.
Ft Laud is definitely overpriced & overpopulated.. but that’s the entire east coast of FL from W. Palm Beach south..

Both sides of FL have their +s & -s.. Depends on location on either side.. There still are a few stretches that aren’t totally overrun.. but they are few & far between..
I think given my druthers I’d still prefer being on the Atlantic side though.. The Gulf is just downright weird these days..

          • Lindstr7

Weird in what way!? Speak candidly I’d like to know since I may be considering it in my future plans. Are they both equal as far as being in the hurricane path?

          • Unlisted2u

Let’s start with hurricanes: In my opinion, and I believe history proves this out as well, the Gulf of Mexico side is much more likely to get slammed than the Atlantic side.. Durn, I could write a book chapter on this, so I’ll just leave it at that for now..

By weird, I’m talking about pollution factors. It’s much worse over in the far corner of the panhandle, Pensacola on through AL, MS & TX than it is directly along the western shoreline of FL, but it’s still out there.

We’ve done sooo much damage to the planet I really can’t quantify it well.. and much of what I’m talking about in the Gulf is “hidden” as well. I guess we just have to take everything with a gram of salt these days..

          • Lindstr7

Okay, bear with me I’m just guessing here. The Louisiana coastline is known for oil processing right? Is that entire coastline damaged because of that?

          • Unlisted2u

Again, depends what ya mean by damaged. If we look at satellite imagery over let’s say the last 50 years or so, hurricanes and human interference have caused much more damage to that coastline than oil. Trying to restore the marshes and wetlands is a massive undertaking..

What many people don’t understand is it isn’t every coastline that ya can just drive up to and go “we’re here.” That’s especially true on the Gulf side. But man has tried to engineer it over there to be that way.. and has now found out that that just wasn’t exactly the smartest thing on the world to have done..

EDIT: Gulf side where you mentioned.. i.e. Miss R delta plain and areas nearby..
EDIT EDIT: You know who you should ask about the Gulf Coast re the Big Bend area on over to Pensacola? Alleypanther.. He gigged those locations for years.. and is much more familiar with that coastline than I ever could pretend to be..

          • Lindstr7

lol, “Are we there yet?” How many times my dad heard that when we were driving to fl keys during winter break. I remember smelling the ocean and knowing we were getting closer, that salty air. Yeah, I’m not so much interested in “on the beach” living and that whole scene as I am a decent little area that’s not too yuppified and still has a little charm. I’ve never seen the west coast of fl so should be enlightening.

          • Unlisted2u

Ok then — cos once ya get even just a little bit inland prices drop considerably.
When I first moved back here (FL) this time around I lived on the beach for 10 years. It was great! Nothing like easy access & all that.

At the same time, I knew I could never afford to buy on the beach — at least not buy a free standing home.. (I cannot stand apartment / condo dwelling..) Homes that cost between 30-35K to build back when The Cape was just starting up were already $150,000+ by the mid ’80s & were 25-30 yrs old.. and except for a slight sag during the bubble burst are still expensive as heck.. And let’s not even get into the tax difference..

Move inland just a little bit though, off the beach & barrier islands (mainly on E. coast) and prices become rather reasonable..

          • rg9rts

            Don’t bogart that roach man

          • Unlisted2u

You just KNOW she’s out samplin’ the different strains too, lol! ;o)

          • Lindstr7

hey now! (they were all out, no kidding) Come back next week they said. Oy.

          • Unlisted2u

            ROFL..!!
            Figgerz tho, huh.. :-/

          • rg9rts

            Right

          • rg9rts

            Bagel with a schmear here

          • Unlisted2u

            Comin’ right up, sir.. ;o)

  • geezer 56

Well, it’s a little early for happy hour but…it is Saturday!

    • Lindstr7

      Geeze! How’s stuff??

      • geezer 56

Hey darlin’! You still on the move?

        • Lindstr7

Yes ma’am! I’m riding out a bit of a snow storm in Pueblo CO which is fine because I have a nice view of the snow out my window and my room is warm and comfy and Paolo is content and my car is fixed and all is well! I’ll be heading east Sunday or Monday. Are you in the “polar vortex” zone?

          • geezer 56

Sounds cool! Nope, thank goodness, no polar vortex here. Reminds me of the first winter after we moved here and started hearing about the “convergence zone,” where all the really bad weather seems to happen. We’d never heard of it–and at one point we’d been considering buying a home right smack in the middle of it!

          • Lindstr7

Smart lady. One thing I’ve come away with after having gone through the desert is that I don’t want to live in the desert lol. I like water! (I’m not sure I was of that same opinion when I lived in Seattle for two years though, hmm, can’t recall lol.)

          • geezer 56

I’m with ya. The desert can be beautiful and mysterious, but I wouldn’t want a steady diet of it. And it seems unnatural to live in a place where you’re absolutely, positively going to be miserable without air conditioning. ;)

          • Unlisted2u

So now ya have a thing against leathery skin too, huh..? ;p

          • rg9rts

You seen them on Miami beach??

          • Unlisted2u

            That’s the humid leather look..
I’m talking the dry cracking leather look.. ;o)

          • rg9rts

We had a NYC DJ move into the area and one day when he was having a promo I saw his wife. Pretty woman in her 30′s whose skin looked like a well used catchers mitt.

          • Unlisted2u

I’m pretty sure I know her..

          • geezer 56

I’d burn to a crisp, personally. Here’s something you may not know–I’m the palest white person you’ll ever see. Just this side of Johnny Winter white. But I’m 57, and despite my youthful indiscretions with overexposure to the sun, I’m often pegged as much younger. “Leathery” would not be a good look for me. ;)

          • Lindstr7

That’s one reason I did like Seattle, lots of water (if you can tolerate the rain) and its so GREEN everywhere (that is not a euphemism btw). I remember when I first arrived it was spring and all the cherry or plumb trees were blossoming and petals covered the sidewalk, stunning.

          • geezer 56

It is GORGEOUS here. Fell in love with the place the first time I came here, on a business trip. Driving around, all I saw were TREES, everywhere! Blew my mind.

          • Lindstr7

I lived i this cute little (tiny) cottage on Queen Anne hill, and I fell in love with it. Daughter wanted to finish high school in her home town so we moved and its still on my list (was it you who told me about the Olympic Rain shadow)?

          • geezer 56

Don’t know a lot about Seattle (we live in the sticks), but Queen Anne seems really nice. Yeah, I think it may have been me talking about the rain shadow–somebody’s moving there. Who was that?

          • rg9rts

My riding partner is German Irish and in his early 60′s going through his second round of skin cancer treatment probably from his Navy day in SEA

          • geezer 56

Yep, I have to be on the lookout for that. Already had one removed and several close encounters.

          • Cynthia W.

I went to high school with albino twin boys. During practice for our outdoor graduation, they were so badly sunburned that they were hospitalized and missed graduation. I’m very light as well, and had platinum blonde hair for a good part of my youth. Though I’m not albino, I do have some photophobia, as did my father.

          • geezer 56

No photophobia, here, thankfully, but I made a bad mistake once. Went on a boat tour to Catalina, and on the way back I laid in the sun for a couple hours, thinking I had slathered myself all over with super-heavy-duty sunblock. As we were coming into dock, I looked at the bottle and it said SPF 8. Oy vey. It was so bad my legs and ankles got so swollen I thought they were going to pop. In hindsight, I really should have gone to the hospital.

          • rg9rts

            Read the label next time

          • geezer 56

            Well, DUH!

          • Lindstr7

I know, it kind of goes against my instincts…if you can’t live in a region without the help of an air conditioner and water needs to be shipped in, just doesn’t feel right. I’m not sure I’ll be able to tolerate the humidity of FL again (hated it the first time), but thought I’d see if it’s as bad as I remember.

          • rg9rts

            It is

          • Lindstr7

Can you testify to that brother rg9rts?

          • Unlisted2u

If that’s a decision you’re wanting to make on this trip, this is definitely the wrong time of year for that assessment.
This is the time of year I live for here.. Pay for it with the dayum summers..

          • Lindstr7

Yes, you’re right. Bad planning again on my part!

          • geezer 56

Where exactly are you headed for? I lived in St. Petersburg for a year, long ago.

          • Lindstr7

St Petersburg! My parents live in Sun City Center (step mother) and are trying to get me to find a little place in the area. SCC is a retirement community and not somewhere I’m anxious to live, but I heard there are some affordable communities in the SP area.

          • geezer 56

I was there i the ’70s–don’t even remember there being a Sun City Center, but then I didn’t get around much during that time.

          • malta123

Answered you further down the line…..G

        • Unlisted2u

Dunno if U ever saw my reply to you about K-man or not.. It was at the bottom of the thread we had goin’..

          • geezer 56

Are you effing kidding me? You string me along all that time, then convinced me it was all a ruse, kept me up until 2:30 a.m., and now it turns out you actually said something about Kon? Out with it!

          • Unlisted2u

            Hey.. ” I ” didn’t convince you it was a ruse, “YOU” convinced you it was a ruse, uh-huh uh-huh.. ;p

          • geezer 56

Oh jeeyayzus, here we go again….

          • Unlisted2u

Here we go what again..? ;o)

          • geezer 56

You’re STILL not gonna tell me. You’re gonna send me on a scrolling tour, and I’ll never find anything.

          • Unlisted2u

OK.. we’ll go up top.. and after the next entry of yours I’ll tell you..

          • geezer 56

            Yeah, right. Uh huh…

          • Lindstr7

Man, what did i miss…(again)…. The K man again!?

    • rg9rts

      Its 5 oclock somewhere

      • Lindstr7

My dog isn’t sure he likes the looks of your cat…..

        • rg9rts

He hates dogs…..especially big dogs…..you look too small

          • Lindstr7

He’s not small, he just has short legs.

          • rg9rts

He does a wonderful imitation of a lion on a cape buffalo’s back

          • Unlisted2u

You know, he does at that..

          • rg9rts

You should have seen the dog he beat the snot out of, about the size of a big rottie

  • Gin1234

You guys know that you shouldn’t start drinking in the morning and drink all day, don’t you? Huge crowd here since last night and it was deserted.

    • Cynthia W.

      Is it morning already? (hic)

      • Gin1234

I think you were drinking when I went to bed last night.

        • Cynthia W.

Who me? Nah—It was that impersonator with the dove and peace sign.

          • geezer 56

Hey, just noticed your new avi! Pretty!

          • Cynthia W.

Thanks. Did you see that rg9rts has my pants on?

          • geezer 56

I’m not looking at his pants, and you can’t make me.

          • Cynthia W.

Aww common!! I need a witness.

          • Unlisted2u

            Ok — you ready..?

          • rg9rts

            Your search is ended!

          • Unlisted2u

            Ok..
            Don’t worry about Kon..
            He is alright..
Even when he isn’t ok, he’s ok..
Normally I’d say he is lurking (if you recall the subject matter being discussed at the time,) but right now it’s my guess he’s into his third day of power watching Supernatural..
He does that every now and again — power watches a series. He’s very much into torrents.. and to power watch Supernatural is at a minimum four day affair 24/7..
Very possible we won’t see him for another 3-4 days yet, although I kinda think he’ll pop around for Super Bowl — but don’t quote me on that..

          • geezer 56

FINALLY! Okay. Good to hear we shouldn’t start worrying about him…yet.

          • rg9rts

As long as he has a good supply of depends

          • Cynthia W.

Or a catheter and a bag.

          • geezer 56

            Lots of Hot Pockets.

          • rg9rts

I always thought that hot pockets were used depends

          • geezer 56

I bought some one time, just out of curiosity–bit into one and it was so putrid I just spat it out. Didn’t even attempt to chew. So you may be on to something there.

            Or maybe they’re Soylent Green.

          • Unlisted2u

            Oh no..
Soylent green is MUCH better than hot pockets..

          • rg9rts

Closer to the truth but is it GMO free

          • Unlisted2u

            Yay! :)

          • geezer 56

            You still must be punished.

          • Unlisted2u

Methinks ya krazee broads tend to overreact..
But alright.. punish away — do yer worst.. ;p

          • rg9rts

            You love it

          • Unlisted2u

            As I was saying.. ;o)

          • Gin1234

Will we ever see her again?

          • Cynthia W.

Don’t worry. I took care of her !!!

          • Gin1234

…..while in one of your drunken stupors.

          • Cynthia W.

            Don’t remember nuttin’

      • Unlisted2u

        Not only is it morning,
        but you’re wearing someone else’s clothes.. ;)

        • rg9rts

          Those look like my shorts

          • Unlisted2u

No wonder my fish tank looked not right this morning..
I believe she’s wearing one of my missing dolphins..

          • rg9rts

Lucky she’s not Japanese or it might have been breakfest

          • Unlisted2u

She’s wearing 12,580,000 yen worth of fish..

          • rg9rts

            Infishation

          • Unlisted2u

Hey.. It’s a world market these days..

          • Cynthia W.

            It’s very affectionate.

          • Unlisted2u

            That’s Sammy..
He likes to be scratched right behind his blow hole..

          • Cynthia W.

Shhhh!! He’s nibbling my ear right now.

          • Unlisted2u

            That means he’s thirsty..

          • Cynthia W.

OK, since it’s happy hour I’ll buy him a beer.

          • Unlisted2u

            He’d like that..
He also has an affinity for Johnny blue.. but won’t turn his nose up at Johnny black..

          • rg9rts

Top shelf or nothing? I’ll stick to Dewars

          • Unlisted2u

            The 15 yo is nice..
The youngster..? Welll, still alright.. :)

          • rg9rts

            Can’t stand Chivas

          • Unlisted2u

            Ditto..

          • Cynthia W.

            Then you must have mine.

          • rg9rts

No wonder they are so tight

          • Cynthia W.

I thought you were wearing compression pants.

          • rg9rts

            Spandex for cycling

          • Gin1234

            Were they fur pants?

          • rg9rts

            merkins?

          • Gin1234

Orange fur. Looks like a full body suit, but there might be one underneath.

          • Cynthia W.

            No–too cold for them

          • Cynthia W.

No, of course not. I didn’t want to shed.

        • Cynthia W.

          Eeeeeeekkkkk !!!!!

          • Unlisted2u

            There there, not a problem..
They fit quite nicely actually.. :)

          • TapestryMood

            Awesome avatar!!

          • Unlisted2u

            Yes!
            Saw that up top..
Must ask Born what the problem turned out being..

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Short answer is I’m not sure of the exact cause of the problem. The diagnostic information showed the hardware was recognized and the driver was loaded, but something else was gumming up the works. Modern Linux is typically comprised of hundreds (or thousands) of small components. It can seem messy in a way, but the upside is that it’s often possible to force reinstall smaller subsections of the system, which will make it reset itself and clean out the gunk without having to reinstall the whole OS.

          • Unlisted2u

            ty

    • Unlisted2u

Well, now that you’re here the place should begin to fill back up pretty quickly..
Do you even remember the dances you did last night..? ;o)

      • Gin1234

        What dances?

        • Unlisted2u

          As I was saying.. ;o)

          • Gin1234

When I left, there were only a few people here, and we were having a quiet little get together. Now THIS.

          • rg9rts

For awhile it was a morgue here and everywhere else

          • Unlisted2u

            Yeah — I know..
Can’t leave us unattended for even a few minutes.. ;)

    • rg9rts

      Coffee

      • Unlisted2u

        That’d be kawphy, sir..

    • geezer 56

      Did you bring the mimosas?

      • Unlisted2u

        Those are for tomorrow’s brunch..

        • Gin1234

This place is going to be wild tomorrow. The TeeVee and the juke box going at the same time, plus all the noise from the crowd, clanging dishes………………..

          • rg9rts

            Paper plates

          • Gin1234

            Good idea!

          • Unlisted2u

Yeah — definitely paper plates for sure..!

          • Lindstr7

I’m in Colorado, big time Bronco fans, and I’m rooting for Seattle while being (kind of, kind of by choice) snowed in, so I might just have to stick around and watch the superbowl in a nice comfy hotel room/bed.

          • Gin1234

I’m sure there will be blow by blow accounts, here.

          • Lindstr7

You mean here at the Happy hour or here where you are? (where are you again?)

          • Gin1234

Heck no, not where I am, here. But I probably won’t be here, and will be where I am instead, celebrating groundhog’s day.

          • Lindstr7

Ahhh, one of my all time favorite movies. Say hi to punxatawney Phil!

          • rg9rts

            Strangle the oversized rat

          • Lindstr7

            jealous cat

          • rg9rts

            With an attitude

          • Gin1234

I’ll be looking for him out in the woods somewhere. Maybe I’ll see his shadow. I’ll say hi.

          • Unlisted2u

OTOH, the roads will be empty..
Oh, wait.. They’re empty where you’re gonna be rolling no matter what or when..
            Nevermind..

          • Lindstr7

Ah, you’re right about that. I was thinking the same thing, but am enjoying this hotel room a little TOO much. Looks like the roads are clearing up, we’ll see how it goes tonight.

      • Gin1234

I’m still trying to get my hands on one of those things above. I keep stubbing my fingers reaching for ‘em.

        • Unlisted2u

          ROFL..!! :D

        • rg9rts

          Take another hit

    • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Even if it’s just ginger ale?

      • Gin1234

I am not fooled that easily!

        • rg9rts

          Its fermented

        • Unlisted2u

          Smart girl..;)

        • BornOkayTheFirstTime

*shrug* Dunno, I haven’t touched alcohol in 6, maybe 7, years now. That stuff’s all gathering dust.

          • Gin1234

Better keep your eye on your glass, then. You know how these people are.

  • TapestryMood

I am following your journey…you are from pioneer stock fer sure;-)

        • geezer 56

He’s still attempting to string me along with the bait of having anything at all to say about Kon. Says he revealed all last night–I think just to make me scroll down and down and down, never to find anything.

          U2u must be punished.

          • rg9rts

            Can I watch??

          • geezer 56

            For a price. Whatcha got?

          • rg9rts

            Wacky weed?

          • geezer 56

            That would do it! ;)

          • rg9rts

            Pastures of plenty

          • Lindstr7

He’s got a mean looking cat.

          • TapestryMood

I scrolled both friggen-sites..top to bottom..yes, my eyes glaze over from lack of sleep, but found nothing… by the way..we truly are twins..white hair/white-blonde before that…palest skin..blue eyes…a few rays of sun and I am burnt..lol..

          • Lindstr7

If I may jump in here…I’m a member of the pale skin club 2, a few freckles on the nose but sun and heat make me melt and turn red as a lobster.

          • TapestryMood

BINGO..anything above 72 and I crumble. I turn red from th hear without even being burned..lol..I had planned to go to Hawaii in January and told my friend he’d have to have a long sleeved turleneck muumuu and the biggest hat he could find waiting for me..LOL..

          • Lindstr7

Hah! I put one of those turtleneck surfer shirts on my kid, you should get one! They’re great at blocking out the sun and you can swim in them. I used to love visiting my family in Maui but to ME its hot and humid lol, everyone else…paradise! (don’t think I’ll survive a summer in FL)

          • TapestryMood

I’d need a turtleneck and legs swim suit..seriously..I was going to go to Ohau…that’s why January for me..no, I could never live in humid..hot place..ever, no matter air conditioning..I love to walk, bike, golf…I would be housebound!!

          • geezer 56

Sounds like you, me, and Cynthia are all in the “unfashionably pale” club. Oh, and Lindstr7, too!

          • Gin1234

            Count me in..

          • TapestryMood

LMAO..we are like vampires..usually come out after dark on Epoch..;-)

          • Gin1234

The sun hurts me, although I don’t go so far as sleeping in a coffin.

          • Cynthia W.

Well that explains everything. Blondes have more fun.

          • Gin1234

I don’t think I’m blond anymore, but too scared to really see.

          • TapestryMood

Damn straight..just need to be out of the sun to do it;-)

          • Gin1234

Come to think of it, I do stay up until 3 and sleep until 11. Yikes. I was born that way.

          • TapestryMood

Me, too..it was so hard working in a Lark’s world when one is an owl…or vampire;-)

          • geezer 56

            And Ginners!

          • Cynthia W.

You mean triplets. My hair isn’t white now, though. It’s still blond but darker than when i was younger.

          • rg9rts

So was mine till it left

          • Cynthia W.

Left, right, left, right out the door.

          • rg9rts

Down the drain is more like it

          • TapestryMood

Your hair? Kojack..woo woo;-) But, you hav ea beard, right?

          • rg9rts

And a pony tail from those that chose to remain

          • TapestryMood

            Kewl!;-)

          • TapestryMood

Good grief..you, geezer, Gin, myself..;-) What a group, eh? Mine was whitest blonde when young, then always always a sort of natural platinum blonde..and family trait for going silver white early…so, I did in my 40′s on..never dyed it…it really is pretty…but wish it had some of that salt/pepper look.

          • Cynthia W.

Mine is too light for “pepper”.

          • TapestryMood

Mine, too..but love that look..my young aunt’s hair is wonderful;-)

          • rg9rts

            That can be very attractive

          • TapestryMood

            Salt and pepper or white;-)

          • rg9rts

Both I did see one salt & pepper that was stunning

          • TapestryMood

I agree..Love the look!! I really don’t know why so many women can’t love what they look like, naturally..but, even my daughter dyes her hair.. she was reddish/auburn like my mom’s side …and lots of grey in her 30′s…not too happy with our DNA…LOL..all her kids got my recessive blue eyes and blonde hair..although theirs are turning darker as they age.

          • rg9rts

They do that for the same reason that they think blending into my grandmothers couch with flowertats that look like wallpaper is so cool

          • geezer 56

OK, now that the natural blonde club is here, I have a question. WTF are we supposed to do with our invisible eyebrows?

          • TapestryMood

I have never done anything with them..if I try an eyebrow pencil, etc..it looks clownish…Did you ever notice men looking at your eyebrows..LOL..I didn’t realize that men knew that natural blondes like us are ..ummm..natural all over until a male friend told me;-D Said he always looked at all blondes eyebrows …lil’ debil;-)

          • geezer 56

I’ve never done anything, either, because when I’ve attempted to use even just a little light brown color I look a bit too much like Groucho Marx. I never understood how Madonna could carry off those black eyebrows.

I went to a club once, and a guy was admiring my hair and asked what I used. When I said it was natural he got all snooty and wouldn’t believe me. Of course, it wasn’t until five minutes later it occurred to me that I should have asked if he thought I bleached my eyebrows and eyelashes, too.

          • TapestryMood

Well, wasn’t he totally ignorant….gack…I have used dark pencil for being a cat or mouse, etc for school things/play silly animal day, etc.. and it does look good, but not in real life..sigh..

          • rg9rts

Not the brightest bulb in the box

          • geezer 56

            Him or me? ;)

          • rg9rts

            I plead the fifth

          • TapestryMood

LOL..DO NOT give him a lead in like that, woman;-)

          • rg9rts

I AM NOT the one that peeked at U2 for a bun shot

          • TapestryMood

Luv a nice tush….no flat bottoms for me….what can I say .. he left the camera hole uncovered, the lil’ exhibitionist;-)

          • rg9rts

And forced you to look LOL

          • TapestryMood

            :-) Investigative mind….all for science;-)

    • Cynthia W.

Been wondering the same thing. He was a bit fluish last he was here. Wish he would at least pop in and say hi.!

    • BornOkayTheFirstTime

I politely informed him that he’s now obligated to partake in the music sharing.
(Wait . . . llama song? I hope you’re not talking about what I think you’re talking about.)

      • TapestryMood

I don’t know what you are thinking of ..but, it is the goofiest song ever…but, kind of cute…;-)
        Yes, I saw your post;-)

        • BornOkayTheFirstTime
          • geezer 56

            That was…surreal.

          • TapestryMood

There is more than 1 version….Don’t let Dave know!!!

          • Unlisted2u

            Ahem..
Have any of you scrolled down to see the answer..?

          • TapestryMood

Yes, Toots..12 minutes ago you put it up..It is not nice to lie to Epochian Women…be very careful, my friend…veryyyy…;-)

          • Unlisted2u

            Not a lie..
Then again, don’t know for sure either..
Just my best guess based on times past is all..

          • TapestryMood

No..I know what you are saying about kon makes sense..
I mean about saying EARLIER… much earlier …that you had posted it..sent me on a “wild kon chase” and THEN you posted it…not nice ;-D

          • Unlisted2u

It’s there too though, but at the verrrry bottom of the thread..
I posted it in the logical spot, to me at least.. What I didn’t know was I did so at the same time everyone began flooding into the room. We had a hundred new comments here before ya knew it — so I’m guessing you never scrolled allll the way to the bottom.. cos there was sooo much new stuff going on up-page.. above a long stretch with no new replies..
It’s probably the very last comment in the first part of the early morning thread.. right above the first 60 or so comments from yesterday afternoon & evening. Pretty much says the same thing this one does..
            FWIW.. :)

          • TapestryMood

I did..but didn’t see it….Great that the Party Hour is working, Dude;-)

          • TapestryMood

OMG..there is more than 1..saw a bunch on the page right side..LOL.;-D

          • Canukistani

Hey I know this is the place to share a few drinks and have some fun but whatinhell was that??

          • Cynthia W.

I just heard it. Where’s the bartender !!!

          • Canukistani

I dunno, but after that I’m thinkin’ it may be time to cut somebody off.

          • rg9rts

            You’re driving again?

          • Canukistani

That video I just saw makes me wonder if anybody should be driving. Scary stuff!

          • rg9rts

            Probably right

          • Canukistani

Something about llamas, but gadzooks, it was unsettling!

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

Welcome to internet culture. And this is the innocuous stuff.

          • Canukistani

            Ack!!

          • rg9rts

I did leave a request in your site.

    • Unlisted2u

      Huzzah for Dave & BOTFT..!

And the answer is a couple three page scrolls down..

      • TapestryMood

Did you just put it up, you lil’ debil?

      • TapestryMood

12 minute ago you posted it….yOU!!;-)

        • Unlisted2u

So now it’s my fault you get hung up so easily too..? lol!! ;p

          • TapestryMood

            No soup for you, Toots;-)

          • Unlisted2u

            And the punishment begins.. ;)

          • geezer 56

            Passive aggressive!!!

  • Sydney

Late to the game here…is this thread “Happy Hour” phase 3 of the Public Square?

    • Canukistani

Hi there. We have no less than 4 active threads now! 4 times the fun.

      • Sydney

        It’s getting confoozing.
I thought Public Square thread ended and then Public Square 2 began and then I see this…but then there’s a fourth chat thread?

        • rg9rts

Agora and the public house too

          • Sydney

Different decor but still a friendly bunch?

          • rg9rts

Agora opened first but this bunch of sots are hanging out here.

          • Sydney

            Got it

          • Cynthia W.

Watch out though. If you drink too much, rg9rts will steal your clothes and wear them

          • Sydney

            Now that’s funny.
We’ll just see if he can fit into them.

          • rg9rts

            Anyone say spandex?

          • TapestryMood

            NO!

          • rg9rts

            I bike!

          • TapestryMood

            OK!

          • Sydney

            In that case…

          • rg9rts

          • Sydney

          • rg9rts

Learned my lesson…..they have to fit

          • Sydney

            I must have missed something….

          • rg9rts

Down below where the discussion was about her losing her clothes look for U2

          • Sydney

            I’m on it.

          • RockyMissouri

            Cool!

        • Canukistani

We now have this one and Agora and a House of Commons in honor of Canuckis and a pub for the Brits as well, but we do all mingle.

          • Sydney

            Mingling is good.

        • Cynthia W.

          see above

          • Sydney

            Ah seezit, Ah seez it!
            Thanks.

    • Unlisted2u

      Ohai Syd.. :)

      • Sydney

        Hey handsome!

        • Unlisted2u

          ( blushing.. )
Sorry.. it doesn’t show up well against the green.. ;o)

          • Sydney

            : D

          • TapestryMood

Doesn’t he look like a green Scotty Pippen? Loved his sculptured face/bones.

          • Sydney

            Ah…yes!

          • TapestryMood

            :-D

        • Unlisted2u

And we have yet another confirmation.. ;)

    • Cynthia W.
      • Sydney

        Oh-h-h-h….whew!

      • Canukistani

Seems like there’s drinkin’ goin’ on in all of them too!

        • http://ranchero42.wordpress.com/ ranchero42

Shouldn’t they call the Canadian one “Pause ‘Em Lodge”? Any Port Asbestos in the storm?

  • Canukistani

Hey, did everybody but me already know about using an ampersand symbol EDIT: I mean an at symbol in a comment? Nobody tells me nuthin’!

    • geezer 56

      Evidently not–?

      • Canukistani

        Did you try it?

        • Blue Eyed Bull

What is it supposed to do. &

          • Canukistani

Ooops, sorry. I meant an at symbol. Too much going on here.

          • Blue Eyed Bull

            Hey, that’s cool.

          • Canukistani

I thought it was. I haven’t heard anybody mention it. I found it by a typo.

          • Blue Eyed Bull

Sure, now you make me look like an idiot posting the wrong sign.

          • Canukistani

You can fix it too. Unless you like the feeling :-) I just didn’t want people making the same mistake for the next couple of days when the discussion gets split up by comments.

          • Blue Eyed Bull

I would have to change my whole comment. I look like an idiot with the wrong symbol or I can’t see what it does.

          • Canukistani

You can delete your comment, then it’ll be our secret.

          • Blue Eyed Bull

Then none of my comments would make sense.

          • Canukistani

            I can break it again.

          • Blue Eyed Bull

I’ll just blame you for me not making sense.

          • Canukistani

It’ll be no surprise. I hardly ever do. there I fixed it … uh .. broke it …uhh I did something, who knows what?

          • Cynthia W.

Hit the edit, then correct it.

          • Blue Eyed Bull

            It’s all Dudley’s fault.

          • Canukistani

            That’s Duh-dley to you :-)

          • TapestryMood

            Yes!!

          • geezer 56

as in @? Hey. Why the hell would I want to know who’s in this conversation when I can plainly see who’s in this conversation?

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

It sends them a notification that they’re mentioned in a message without them being replied to directly. It’s a way to get somebody’s attention to a conversation.

          • Blue Eyed Bull

You get an email message? @

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

I’m guessing you get whatever sort of notification you’re set up for. Maybe @disqus_TFgQ7z1VHk:disqus or @canukistani:disqus can tell us what happens?

          • geezer 56

            Hmm. Weird.

    • Guest

      @canukistani:disqus A test

  • forpeace

      • forpeace

        Voter ID? lol

        • rg9rts

          Of course

          • forpeace

I don’t have one, they do not require Voter ID in my state.

            What should I do now?

          • TapestryMood

Give him a wink and he will be putty in your hands;-)
            Hi, sweet one!

          • forpeace

        Good to see you, Sydney.

  • forpeace

    Happy Hour?! Hum …………

    Is John Boehner here too?

    • rg9rts

Passed out in the corner by MD

      • forpeace

        LOL, poor guy!

        • Cynthia W.

          And he’s still orange.

          • rg9rts

            Cheap tanning bed

          • forpeace

He is not orange any more.

Now, officially he is brown, haven’t you seen him at the State of Union?

          • Cynthia W.

I used to have a crayon like that. I think it was Burnt Umber or something like that.

          • Sydney

            Burnt umber it is…

          • Richard M

            Bumber?

          • BornOkayTheFirstTime

I saw an ad for a new movie called “That Awkward Moment”. I think from now on Boehner’s nickname should be Sad Giraffe.

  • Gin1234

Are you guys too drunk to appreciate how cute this video is? http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/482460-douglas-and-me-a-love-story/

    • Sydney

      A wombat!

      • Gin1234

        They look pretty snuggly.

        • Sydney

I’ve petted ‘roos and koalas, but never a wombat.
          So sweet.

    • geezer 56

That is just hands-down adorable. Now I want a wombat of my own.

      • Gin1234

Me too. It looks just as tame as a cat or dog, maybe even more.

    • JasmineStarlight

Just like dogs and cats, they too love their belly rubbed…..very cute :)

      • Gin1234

Looks like it would have laid there forever. So sweet.

        • Cynthia W.

Wonder if my cats would like a wombat in the family. It is certainly adorable.

          • geezer 56

At least wombats evidently like their tummies scratched. If I tried that with my cat I’d come away with a bloody stump!

          • Cynthia W.

Wow, Geezer–i scratch all three of my cats’ tummies. Perhaps because they were so young when rescued, and because I’m a very huggy-type person, they have grown to like it, and even lie on their backs for a tummy rubbing. OR, maybe my kitties are weird (of course I like them that way).

          • geezer 56

The best I could do with my current cat was to play with her feet a lot so she wouldn’t mind that as much as my previous cats did. ;) But then, I didn’t get her until she was 5 months old.

          • Cynthia W.

I think the age means a lot. Cats grow so fast, so that at 5 months, your cat already had some ideas of her own. Also, just like people, each cat is different as well.

          • JasmineStarlight

Thanks Cyn….. I’m not a football fan either, stopping by a friends little gathering, but heading home early…..work day Monday. I like seeing some of the ads and entertainment—-and nibble on the guag and chips… my fave :)

OK, now I need a drink. See my post at the Agora about Woody Allen if you’re wondering why.

    • Cynthia W.

That was upsetting, Geezer. I’ll join you–I’m buying.

      • geezer 56

My husband’s coming home with vodka and orange juice soon. I need it. Sickened.

  • geezer 56

Screwdriver in hand, ready to rock and talk. Where is everybody?

    • Cynthia W.

      here I am !!!

      • geezer 56

Hey, there! Love your new avi. How did you choose it?

        • Cynthia W.

Were you there 2 nights ago when we were discussing avatars? I described this one, and another one I liked, with a flowered heart and peace sign. Everyone suggested dolphins. They represent gentleness, helpfulness, playfulness, intelligence, loyalty, peace and everything else I could possibly strive for.

          • geezer 56

Love dolphins, porpoises, otters, whales–water mammals! And to me they also represent joy and unabashed fun.

          • Cynthia W.

Definitely fun. That’s why I’m addicted to the PC lately. It’s been too long that I’ve laughed so much and had fun.

          • geezer 56

Every day, multiple times, somebody here has me in stitches. Good for whatever ails ya.

          • Unlisted2u

            That’s cos you’re wearing Sammy..:)
            And Dave has sound..!! :D
BBIAB – Pizza just showed up & a show to watch..

            This has been a drive-by announcement.. ;p

    • Ian_Llanganagain

Dropping in but very ADHD tonight. Have about a billion tabs open :-)

      • geezer 56

Hi, Ian! I know the feeling! Earlier I had 6 open, maybe 7. It kinda messes with those My Disqus notifications, I’ve noticed. Glitchy.

    • BungeeCord

      I are here. Hi Geezer!

      • geezer 56

Hiya, Bungee! How you doin’ tonight?

        • BungeeCord

Doin’ quite well, thanks. How’re you?

          • geezer 56

PO’d at Woody Allen (see the Agora). Hence my need for a screwdriver.

          • BungeeCord

Ugh. I just read that maybe 20-25 minutes ago. What a sick, sick, rhymes-with-truck-but-starts-with-F.

          • geezer 56

And here I was, all those years, thinking his neuroses were entertaining.

          • Cynthia W.

I don’t know why, but I never liked him, and this was before he ran away with what was supposed to be Mia’s adopted daughter.

          • geezer 56

I haven’t cared for his movies much for a while. That Barcelona movie made me want to scream, for instance. Such lazy scriptwriting, with the incessant voiceovers, including one that sticks in my mind about “and everyone had a wonderful time.” Really?

    • MagnaDave

Are you planning to unscrew something (or someone)?

      • Canukistani

        Maybe unscrew the inscrutible?

        • MagnaDave

          LOL! Hello my Canadian friend!

          • Canukistani

            Evenin’ to you too!

      • geezer 56

YOU! ;) Nope, I’m trying to unscrew myself, actually.

        • MagnaDave

You can’t unscrew me because you never, well… you know.

I just read the headline. Couldn’t bring myself to read the article.

          • Cynthia W.

I heard you have SOUND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • MagnaDave

Yes! Thanks to BornOK and his knowledge and patience.

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

If you go to the right store, you can buy some for yourself.

          • geezer 56

There she is! The Knowledge, Patience, ‘n’ Things store? Or maybe Skills, Wisdom, & Beyond?

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

He should be able to find whatever he needs at the dollar store.

          • geezer 56

            ROFL!!

    • Cynthia W.

Let me know if you need to borrow my power drill.

      • geezer 56

I’d better start out manually. Haven’t had vodka in a while. Makes me a little weird sometimes, so fasten your seat belts!

        • MagnaDave

I’m sure you meant to say “weirder…”

          LOL! Score one for me!

          • geezer 56

            Got me. ;)

          • MagnaDave

I’m reveling in my short-term glory until you inevitably put me back in my place.

          • geezer 56

Nah, I think I’ll just scratch you under the chin. Good song, BTW!

  • Cynthia W.

    I have a song for Arianna from all of us;

Garth Brooks – Friends in Low Places

  • Richard M

I’m off to dinner now. See you Night Owls in a bit.

    • geezer 56

Where were you? And now you’re leaving?

      • Richard M

I was sleeping off a hangover. When I finally got up this afternoon, I was puttering about these threads to see what I missed. Just now I went to Subway. Tried their new pizzaittis. Then I went to Wal-Mart to get pistachios and brie. I noticed the freeway was closed by cops and fire trucks, going back towards home, so I had to take the side streets home.

Ready for the big Bronco’s Super Bowl victory party?!!!

    • Cynthia W.

      Enjoy your dinner.

      • Richard M

Thanks CW. Ready to cheer the Broncos, on to victory in a few hours?

  • Canukistani

Evenin’ from the very snowy north folks.

    • geezer 56

Hey, Canuk! Looks like we may get LITTLE snow next week.

      • Canukistani

it’s been snowing steadily since about 11:00 this morning here. It’s supposed to stop overnight sometime.

        • geezer 56

          Where, approximately, are you again?

          • Canukistani

Eastern Ontario, just about an hour’s drive from the US border.

          • geezer 56

            Brrrr!

          • Canukistani

The temperature is 24 F, which is pretty decent, but we’re expecting nearly a foot of snow before it stops.

          • geezer 56

24 ain’t too bad. Glad you didn’t say it in Celsius, though, or I’d have to look up a metric converter.

          • Canukistani

I wouldn’t want to make you work on that. You’re already working on a drink, I gather, that’s enough.

          • geezer 56

Metric conversion and alcohol consumption do not mix.

          • Canukistani

Not if you’re interested in accuracy anyway. If not, I guess it can work.

          • geezer 56

I have a bit of a grip on distance, volume, and speed, but Celsius continues to evade me. If you said it was 24 degrees Celsius I wouldn’t even know if that’s hot or cold.

          • Canukistani

Room temperature is about 20C if that helps.

          • geezer 56

            Actually, it does. Thank you!

          • OneOtherPerson

whether it’s a fifth or a liter, as long as it’s over half , it’s all good.

          • Canukistani

That sounds like a good way to look at it!

          • BungeeCord

Yet vodka comes in 750ml bottles and shots are 1.5 ounces. lol

          • Canukistani

If you can’t do the calculation to know how many drinks that is, I guess you have to keep drinking and count as you go to find out.

          • BungeeCord

One potato, two potato, three potato, floor.

          • Canukistani

Five potato, uh five potato, er where was I again?

          • BungeeCord

You gotta pass your drink to the other hand and start counting on those fingers now. lol

          • Canukistani

Sorry, they just fell on the floor and rolled away. At least i didn’t drop my glass.

          • geezer 56

Five potato, what’s the carpet doing in my face?

          • geezer 56

Good point! So I never know if I’m drinking too much or not enough.

          • Cynthia W.

What time zone are you in?

          • Canukistani

EST time here. It’s 9:35 right now.

          • Cynthia W.

            OK. Same as me.

          • Canukistani

I’m almost due north from Ogdensburg NY.

    • Cynthia W.

Hi. Snow, huh? Gosh I haven’t seen snow in ….er…nevermind.

      • Canukistani

I haven’t seen it in oh, seconds, anyway.

  • MagnaDave

When the Bee Gees began overtaking the records that the Beatles had set and disco was on the rise, I turned off my radio. It stayed off for years until I heard this song on the radio while delivering auto parts. It single-handedly restored my faith in the music industry.

Sheryl Crow If It Makes You Happy

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyihQtBes1I

    • geezer 56

      MD!!! Your first song!

Agree with you on the BeeGees, BTW. Drek.

    • BungeeCord

MD, you just made my night. Sheryl has been my favorite artist of all time. I haven’t changed out any of the six CDs in my truck in years. They’re all various albums or mixes of hers.

      • MagnaDave

I had not listened to the radio in years. I had no idea who she was and, in fact, thought it was Alanis Morrisette at first because that’s the only name I knew. She is so obviously talented and does a lot of work for children and charities besides being a genuinely nice person.

        • geezer 56

Pretty much proved to me that Owen Wilson is not as dumb as he looks. But then again, I said the same thing about Julia Roberts when she married Lyle Lovett, and that didn’t last, either.

          • MagnaDave

Was he a “suitor” of hers? The only one I remember is Lance Armstrong.

          • geezer 56

They were married! For about a year, I think.

          • MagnaDave

            Did not know that!

I remember hearing that he attempted suicide at one point. He isn’t a favorite actor of mine but that made me so very sad.

          • geezer 56

I actually like him a lot. He’s been in several things where I found him kind of intriguing. (Can’t even stand to think about suicide, though. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me.)

          • Cynthia W.

            I like him as well.

          • geezer 56

And I didn’t mean to imply I thought he was dumb, just that in a few things I’ve seen him in his characters have been a little clueless, and he does that well.

          • Cynthia W.

            Definitely a good character actor

          • geezer 56

What was that one where he’s on a train in India with his two brothers? Loved that one.

          • Cynthia W.

Oh, I remember the film, but forgot the name. Darn!!!

          • MagnaDave

I like him more after seeing him in one of the Fokker movies. I still like Luke better, though.

          • geezer 56

Actually, I guess they weren’t married. I was thinking of Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett.

    • Canukistani

      Wow! Sound! Well done!

      • MagnaDave

        WHAT? TALK LOUDER!

        • http://ranchero42.wordpress.com/ ranchero42

Keeping the neighbors awake much lately?

        • Canukistani

Now that you’ve got sound we’ll have to tell you to turn it down.

          • MagnaDave

            Good luck with that ;-)…

    • http://ranchero42.wordpress.com/ ranchero42

Dave, aren’t you tired? I thought you’d be driving all night to get to East Rutherford?

      • MagnaDave

Nope, walking to the couch and turning on the TV will be the extent of my exertions. I will pause for a moment to fondly remember and give thanks for the 1/2 a six-pack of Michelob we found on a school field trip to The Meadowlands, though.

Oh, wait, that was the Garden Arts Center or something. Still, good times, good times.

        • http://ranchero42.wordpress.com/ ranchero42

          Tell me how -this- sounds?

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOLxxszFaMg

          • Fattonecat

Killer tune!! One of my all time favorite guitar solos….. Thanks!!

          • MagnaDave

            Sounded great, Ranch! Thanks!

          • Canukistani

            Sounds great to me!

          • geezer 56

            Oh, hell yes.

  • Canukistani

Here’s something I posted a few days back, but I think it deseves another play for the nice animation … Hem

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IedsGqHAhkU&feature=c4-overview&list=UUHk0IqXfO9GvNRoQriOrdig

    • MagnaDave

Thanks, Canuk. Reminded me of a long-forgotten favorite of mine…

Hem The Part Where You Let Go

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUFlhP3FudA

      Beautiful song, btw…

      • Canukistani

Wow, usually when I mention Hem everybody says ‘who?’. They’re one of the very few modern bands I listen to.

Mostly I listen to unpopular music or classic rock from the 60′s and early 70′s.

        • MagnaDave

Then you might appreciate this. Rachel Sweet’s closest brush with musical fame, only to be overshadowed by Pat Benatar’s far inferior version of this song.

Rachel Sweet Shadows of the Night

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqf5ojFVsMU

          • Canukistani

That is interesting. I don’t like it as well as Hem, but certainly worth a listen or 2 or 3.

        • Cynthia W.

          That’s a very nice song.

      • geezer 56

That is beautiful. Never heard of them before!

        • MagnaDave

Thanks to Canuk! I would have never remembered them if he didn’t post his song.

    • FaunaAndFlora

Ooh… New music to me. Nice!

      • Canukistani

I like a lot of their stuff.

        • FaunaAndFlora

I’ll definitely look for more of their music. Thanks!

          • Canukistani

There are a few goodies on iTunes, but I’ll save them since we’ve had 2 of their here already.

  • geezer 56

So charming: Lyle Lovett, If I Had a Boat

  • BungeeCord

Since Dave brought up Sheryl, here’s my favorite song of hers.
    Diamond Road.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1HGqvFhaWU

    • Canukistani

      Now that’s a goody!

      • Sarah Sahasbeen

Is a goody related to a tuque in any way?

        • Canukistani

Some toques can be goodies too :-)

  • Cynthia W.

This group isn’t well Known, but the song is pretty

I’m surprised I didn’t think of this one sooner.

    • MagnaDave

One of the all-time classics, still relevant today. One of the few that I can sing without scaring people and other living things, too.

    • Canukistani

This one got stopped at the border. Must be un-Canadian or something.

      • MagnaDave

It was the Sounds of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel.

        • Canukistani

          :-)

        • Sarah Sahasbeen

How do you know that if it’s silence?

          • Canukistani

Because if it was anything else you’d hear it?

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

            Groan.

          • Canukistani

            Thank-you, thank-you very much.

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

            Malcolm, I’m sure.

          • MagnaDave

That does make the fact that YOU couldn’t hear it rather ironic, though.

          • Canukistani

Oh, you were serious!? Never thought of that. That never happens.

    • geezer 56

Ah. Sweet. I used to sing this in choir in high school.

    • MagnaDave

This one’s just for you, Born. Not everyone will know what a shell account is, lol.

Is it possible to name the song with the link? Sometimes if there are a lot of songs, and no names, it’s hard to tell which ones you’ve listened to.

    • geezer 56

Thanks for the reminder! Beat me to it!

Question for people with cats: Do they always steal your seat when you get up to answer the phone like dogs do?

Also, hearing someone chewing tobacco and spitting while on the phone has got to be one of the most disgusting things ever.

    • FaunaAndFlora

      Some do.

    • geezer 56

      (A) Yes, because they love butt heat, and (2) just eeeewwww.

      • MagnaDave

Butt-heat, lol. For some reason Kim K. comes to mind. Not sure why.

    • Cynthia W.

      First question, definitely !!!

      Statement re chewing tobacco–yuk !!!

    • OneOtherPerson

My dog would never steal my seat. But he’ll bark at the window until the other dog jumps up to look, and then steal Dusty’s seat.

      • geezer 56

Oh, I like that. They say dogs never lie, but yes indeed they can and do.

        • OneOtherPerson

yes, and then he looks at me with a very proud yet devilish look.

          • geezer 56

I know that look! Just makes me melt.

      • FaunaAndFlora

I have a dog like that.

    • blacklace382

My dog yes, cat no, and picking up a glass you do not know is a spit cup is the worse.

      • BungeeCord

That happened to my mom once. I don’t know how she didn’t throw up, because I borched when she told me about it.

        • blacklace382

My brother is an outdoors man and chews, and he knows where to keep his cup so I don’t find it. :-)

      • Okey Umez

What’s all this talk aboot spit?. Ahem..:)

        • blacklace382

          silly yous!

          • Okey Umez

            Nyet, you. BAM!!!

    • FaunaAndFlora

      Cute bird!

      • geezer 56

I used to have an African grey parrot, and he’d dance if I started him off. Too adorable.

    • Cynthia W.

      That bird has rhythm !!

  • MagnaDave

At the risk of destroying the persona of utter manliness that I’ve created on here, I must admit that I like the group Aqua. A lot. None-the-less, this a great song no matter what you think of them (or me).

      That one’s fun!

I really like them. They don’t take themselves too seriously but obviously have talent and the ability to put out some great music.

        • Cynthia W.

My cat left the room LOL !!

          • MagnaDave

Wait until your cat plays a video and then we’ll see what I have to say!

          • Cynthia W.

            LOL !!!!

    • geezer 56

Oh, dear. We need to talk.

    • Cynthia W.

      Well…it’s different !!!!

      • MagnaDave

        Did the cat come back?

        • Cynthia W.

No. I have no idea where she is. She’s hiding. I think she’s traumatized.

          • MagnaDave

Was it because you couldn’t resist the urge to dance?

          • Cynthia W.

No–I think it was the attempt at karaoke.

          • MagnaDave

Boy, do I know THAT feeling!

        • geezer 56
          • BungeeCord

          • geezer 56

Did you go to Girl Scout camp? That was always one of my favorite songs.

          • MagnaDave

LOL! My cat has all the same hobbies, too. She’s even pulled plaster off the walls, lol.

          • geezer 56

Hey MD, did you see my dancing cockatoo video below? It was just for you.

J Geils got popular? When did that happen?

OK, sorry, the hostile reception to the Aqua song I posted has caused me to lash out…

      • OneOtherPerson

They used to be the J Geils Blues Band, but dropped the blues.

        • Unlisted2u

That’s when I really liked them too..
          Yet another great Boston-based band..
Freeze frame is on the very tail end of when I liked them the best — it’s their early stuff that really did it for me..

    • Cynthia W.

Ooh. This is nice. Like the beat.

Always liked them. Great band and she has such a unique voice and style.

  • geezer 56

OK, Sharyn’s over there and I wanna get her over here. We need some conversation here to bait her, I think!

    • Blue Eyed Bull

With people playing music I doubt she will come here.

      • geezer 56

Nobody seems to be doing much at the Agora, though, either. Don’t want to make her feel ignored here.

        • Unlisted2u

          You should go get her..
First off, she was over here earlier today..
Secondly, when tunez are comin’ one every 45 seconds I don’t even attempt to keep up..

          • geezer 56

I tried. It looks like she has some activity over there, now, though, so that’s good.

        • TapestryMood

OH, NO ..NO apologies..tears are healing..and I love this song..the version that shows them with his ashes just tears me up….and heals at the same time…we all need songs that touch us, IMO..

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

I agree completely. You should see me when I put on my opera CDs. The passion and hurt in some of them can be overwhelming when you know the stories behind them.

          • TapestryMood

            Yes…we agree..so glad you understand!!

        • Cynthia W.

This was playing on the series ER when Mark died. SO SAD !!!!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

They used it at the end of the movie, “Meet Joe Black”. That was the first time I heard it and I was just floored by it.

      • MagnaDave

You should have seen all the crying when I played Aqua. Whiners.

        • TapestryMood

;-) Oh, oh..how far down thread do I have to go..want to get you my opinion;-)

        • FaunaAndFlora

I actually thought Aqua was pretty funny.

          • MagnaDave

            That’s what I like about them. Good-natured and light-hearted.

If you were being snarky, well, then, just never mind, lol.

        • FaunaAndFlora

          Same here!

          • geezer 56

So glad to know there are lots of people here my age or at least roundabouts who remember and love this stuff. My husband, who’s 12 years older than me, tells me that I’m kinda stuck in the ’70s when it comes to music. On the other hand, he sticks religiously to the blues, and I can’t fault him for that. ;)

  • Feistyslug

OK, trying to understand the shift here. Music here only? Chat at agora?

Am I gonna have to become bi-roomal?

    • Sarah Sahasbeen

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

        ;)

    • FaunaAndFlora

      Maybe. How’s it going Feisty?

    True Story

Why is it that kids can’t make up their minds when you ask the simple question: “What would you like for dinner…?” It seemed like a fairly straight forward request, but I always got the frustrating response: “I don’t know…”

One day I had an epiphany. I noticed a label was about to fall off a can of soup in the cupboard. With a smile, I peeled the label completely off. As the daily routine of dinner rolled around I took advantage of the opportunity to again ask the question; “What would you like for dinner?” And with the predicable “I don’t know”, I pulled the shinny, unidentifiable can of food from the cupboard and set in on the counter. “Ok, I can make ‘I don’t know’ for you..!” With a stunned look, my kid asked “Well, what’s in the can…?” My retort was of course, “I don’t know. That’s what you wanted for dinner, isn’t it…?”
Meal ideas dramatically improved from then after.

    • Canukistani

      A genius! That’s great!

    • OnyxE

Ha ha what a great idea. I just read how one mother got her kids to eat broccoli ..she told them broccoli was for grownups and they could try it when they were grown up……of course they HAD to have it.

    • TapestryMood

So good, I am going to tell my daughter to strip some cans ( cheating :-) and pull it on hers..lol..

      • Intolerantcentrist

I told my kid she was lucky we didn’t have a dog…’cause that would have made her request really risky.

        • TapestryMood

LOL…you and my daughter would be best buds!! Her humor is necessary…6 kids…but, the oldest now have a night to do the planning and cooking..and they really seem to enjoy It;-D

We’ve all been missing our friends at HP who we were forced to “abandon” and the pain that we feel can be indescribable. In particular, I have one who’s last email to me said that she had been in a serous car accident and was in a lot of pain. So far, I haven’t heard from her since and I’m very worried. This song comes as close to expressing the way I feel and how many of you must feel, as well. I think we all have someone in our lives that we would give anything, or everything, to hear from again.

Oh, MD. The people I love most in the world are going through a terrible time right now, and they never answer their phone and aren’t into e-mails at the moment, either. It’s killing me. There is literally nothing I can do except tell them I love them, and with the people lost from HP, you can’t even do that.

        Roller

        • geezer 56

Me, ice. Speed skating. It was the coolest place, in more ways than one, within a reasonable driving distance for my parents. ;) They had no idea the trouble I got into there!

Can I be your music groupie? You post the best stuff ever.

          • Canukistani

I’m surprised that anyone else listens to this stuff, really. i listen to a lot of music and since the mid 70′s almost none of it has been popular.

I’ve built up quite a catalog in the last nearly 40 years and most of is not what anyone else I know has wanted to hear for quite some time.

          • apogee2perogee

The folks you post are generally the finest of musicians. What’s not to like? :-)

          • Canukistani

Ahh, well, there’s also the question of taste. Not bad or good, just differrent, and each to his own I say. As somebody (Monk?) said, ‘The music is between your ears.’

          • geezer 56

…and in your heart. It either grabs you or it doesn’t. It’s elemental.

          • Canukistani

Yup, and words do not capture its essence. Here’s one for you. Pay no attention to the blather in the first 20 seconds or so.

          • apogee2perogee

Another fabulous choice, Canukistani, really fine.

          • geezer 56

Oh, no. I have to admit this has no appeal for me. But there you go. Music is in your heart, and it’s such an individual choice, it would be boring if we all liked the same things.

          • Canukistani

You’re quite right, so not to worry. You have to remember that I expect people mostly not to like what I do so I’m never surprised when it happens. On the contrary, you’ve enjoyed more of the off-mainstream music that I’ve posted than I ever thought anyone would. More will follow at some point. Some you’ll like and some will be duds. But if you find a few you enjoy I think it’s worth the doing.

          • apogee2perogee

I think technical proficiency moves me too….but it is hard to tease apart what it is that makes a song really sing….

          • geezer 56

Technical proficiency may impress me, but it doesn’t touch me. Listen to some Tab Benoit and tell me a little “slop” on that guitar doesn’t transport you right to a Louisiana swamp.

          • apogee2perogee

Agreed. But rhythmic precision, especially in jazz, always excites me.

          • geezer 56

OK. jazz is a little different. But there’s abstract jazz, and there’s rhythmic jazz. If it doesn’t have a good rhythm, it may impress me intellectually, but it can’t…dang…it can’t MOVE me.

          • geezer 56

That’s another thing I like about this place. I get exposed to things I wouldn’t hear, ordinarily. I love music, but I stick to the blues, mostly, because popular music is so sh*tty.

          • apogee2perogee

            My T Fine !

          • Canukistani

            That was a good song.

    • apogee2perogee

      • FaunaAndFlora

Hey Apogee. Hope you’re doing fine. Can is a favorite band of my husband the drummer.

        • apogee2perogee

Yep, I’m doin’ fine. Worked today, since I could do little else. heh heh heh Have ice and snow again, and enough ice to make travel too dicey. Decided I was tired and took a nap about 7, but didn’t wake up until 11.

  • Feistyslug

Not much of a complainer BUT so far not really feeling the designation for all music to come to a separate room. Music is such an important part of life, it seems odd to relegate it to another room. Music and politics belong together – music has the ability to turn politics on it’s ear. Someone posted music at Agora, was told to come here and they did not make it over.
We may lose folks and I for one don’t want to lose touch.

To be fair, there may be concerns I am not aware of, but I did not get the strong message in the original email about 4 rooms that music had to be separated out from the general conversation.

Just offering my opinion. Totally open to others . . .

    • geezer 56

Did somebody whine about it over there?

      • Feistyslug

It is being suggested that music be played over here. Probably a direction to hang with the like musically minded. Last nite we were playing music at Agora. Why the shift? Did I miss something?

        • OneOtherPerson

One of the things that held HP together in the first few years was everyone congregating on the main thread. There was always someone there, and you didn’t have to search for people. When the main changed, everyone went with it.
Too many threads ruin the site.

        • TapestryMood

You missed the descriptions at the top of each room…often music and sports etc, does shut down other conversation…Epoch wanted space for all to be comfortable..has red words to Epoch Forum..when one clicks there, it has pictures to click to lead one to the new pages of your choice….easy peasy….and, the numbers for both Agora and Happy Hour shows it is working..IMO..

    • blacklace382

OK, I am not here that much, and did not receive the email, but why would one have to post music on a separate board? Aren’t they all chat rooms?

      • Feistyslug

Nothing was said about it from the site guys. The message seems to be to play music over here, not sure how that happened and not sure I am too crazy about it.

        • blacklace382

Since these boards are for mainly us HPer’s I am not sure why it would make a difference where one post’s music. It is not a board where the general public posts.

          • Feistyslug

            Agree.

          • TapestryMood

Read each description on top by the pictures..for each room… Epoch is trying to meet the needs of many posters..just open two tabs and go back and forth like many of us do….thus, it doesn’t close out a thread to those who don’t want to interrupt music, sports, etc..and so they move on and don’t post…feel shut out…this is a nice option, IMO.

          • Feistyslug

The descriptions are pretty relaxed. Which is perfect, not sure we need to complicate by reading more into them than is written.

          • geezer 56

            YES! EXACTLY!

          • blacklace382

Exactly! So if we are talking politics and Christie comes up I can’t post Take This Job and Shove It! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzGoDtmTllg Talk Soon!

          • blacklace382

Hi Tap! Sorry I fell asleep. It is a nice option but things are pretty lax in a chat room, so I don’t think it is a problem if music enter another chat room upon occasion. There are songs that come up that may correspond with the topic of discussion.

          • TapestryMood

Hi! I made the point that songs/links are perfectly fine in making a point in a discussion in Agora….in another post to her…
however… It is obvious EPOCH wants a political/issues oriented room …and a Happy-go-lucky room …that would include long strings of music links and sports talk and pets and friends talking about families, fixing things, interests, hobbies..and on an on.without having to spell out each item..
We are adult enough to discern such….and to be gracious to our wonderful hosts.
Hope you are feeling better ..have a great week….xoxo..

Where was this message? I didn’t see anything. Was it today?

          • MagnaDave

It’s kind of hinted at in the description at the top of each chat room. U2 herded everyone over here last night.

          • Feistyslug

Yeah, I am not seeing those hints and have not seen anything from the site administrators asking that there be separation.

As you will recall, the original public forum was set up to allow us to visit and play music as we were overloading the comments under particular articles.

          • Gin1234

Those articles were all about the Huffington Post.

          • Feistyslug

Yeah and we all went a little crazy with being so happy to see each other again.

          • MagnaDave

I know. Just pointing out where they announced the change. I’ll be the first to admit that they could have done a better job of making things clear.

I was against it at first but I figure it’s their site and they’ve been very good to us so far so I’ll give it a try and see how it goes.

          • Feistyslug

NO way am I complaining about ET administrators. I feel posters may be reading more than was actually written. If you look at those descriptions at the top of each page, it is a very laid back vibe.

          • geezer 56

MD, have you ever considered a career in international diplomacy?

          • Feistyslug

There wasn’t an explicit message, more of a vibe. Tonight it seemed suddenly there was a delegation, which is why I am vocalizing.

        • blacklace382

BTW Filo says hi! I saw Mahi Joe on HP tonight too!

          • Feistyslug

Oh please tell Filo hello for me too!! I miss playing music with him!! Mahi joe – how is he doing?

          • blacklace382

Hey you! Sorry I crashed before I could respond, and still couldn’t sleep through the night, keep getting up early. Anyway Filo is here at Epoch, and Mahi Joe is doing well.

    • Canukistani

I agree. I think we’re trying to figure out if there’s any real significance to the divisions that were created and we may need to grope our way through them and decide for ourselves.

Speaking for myself, I’m pretty laid-back and flexible, so I think I’ll go along with whatever works for most of us. I’m happy to make suggestions, but I’m not all that crazy about making rules (call me an anarchist if you will).

      • Feistyslug

I hate rules!! And I hate things that seem arbitrary. That’s why I am speaking up.

        • Cynthia W.

I hear you. I wouldn’t want to be the one making rules either. It will sort itself out eventually.

        • Canukistani

I believe in rules that make sense … natural laws, if you will, but I don’t like making arbitrary ones and I don’t like enforcing rules of any sort. If they’re natural laws, nature ought to enforce them.

At the same time I think that we should be able to figure out what we expect and where that might be, so that we won’t spend a lot of time hunting around for where everybody is. We’re faced with an embarrassment of riches, and we have to figure out how not to be embarrassed :-)

          • Intolerantcentrist

            Natural Law; a Lockean …?

          • Canukistani

More a rational anarchist really. I recognize that some people need rules and I’m happy to let them do that and abide by them or, if necessary, move on.

But I’m happy with just obeying natural laws like gravity or inertia and dealing with situations as they arise rather than ‘by the book’. Call me crazy if you will.

          • Intolerantcentrist

            Sounds rational to me.

          • Canukistani

            You mean maybe I’m not crazy? Whew, that’s a reiief…and a surprise :-)

        • apogee2perogee

I’ve often said: rules are for those who can’t make value judgements.

        • FaunaAndFlora

Maybe The ET folks were trying to create different spaces so they could spread out the traffic and not have to make a new chat room for us Huffagees once every week or two.

          • Canukistani

I’ve always assumed that since we’ve been given no direction we can do as we choose. I’ve posted music links on the Canucki page too, as far as that goes.

I’m more concerned with people posting music or other ‘off topic’ stuff and wondering why nobody’s reponding because everybody else is doing the same thing on another thread and doesn’t notice.

As far as rules go, I don’t think we have any about stuff like that.

          • FaunaAndFlora

I’ve been checking in on the Agora thread from time to just in case someone shows up and wonders where everyone is.

          • Canukistani

I do that too from time to time, but then I’ve always been looking back for strays, so just seems like the normal thing to do to me. They may just wander off anyway though, instead of changing threads and I really hate to lose people.

          • FaunaAndFlora

I hate to lose people too.

P.S. Scroll down. I posted a song just for you. One of my all time favorite jazz artists.

          • Canukistani

Musta missed it,in the excitement I’ll take a look though. I’m always interested in finding new jazz. Classical too, but that’s an even smaller market these days.

          • Feistyslug

That’s kind of my point, I did not feel any herding to any particular room by the site administrators. Just seemed all of a sudden music was being delegated here. Wondered why and hoped it wasn’t something that was going to be rigid.

          • Cynthia W.

It wasn’t delegated. It was was just an unplanned happening. At one point at Agora, Someone suggested something different with news comments, so I wrote a long comment about how I felt concerning “rules” or plans , cause it’s much too comfortable here. Geezer was with me at the time, and we both were against changes. I ended up here by chance because at the time, it was the most lively place. .

          • geezer 56

OK, I’m getting confused. Are you talking about last week with Richard or last night with Unlisted? Or that thing today–? Never did actually figure out what that was about!

          • Feistyslug

I hear ya friend. I was directed over here as I played music and that’s why I wanted to speak up and see what the group feels.

          • FaunaAndFlora

I just followed everyone else over here because this is where the action is tonight. :-)

          • Feistyslug

Yeah me too. But ppl already had the impression that music had to be played here.

          • apogee2perogee

            I’ve had that thought too…

          • Feistyslug

            That’s a good thought.

          • Canukistani

I thought about it that way too, but I guess it doesn’t really matter if we fill them up concurrently or sequentially. We could also fill up Agora and then shift here and then move along to the Canadian and British pages. We all mingle anyway, (and I intend to keep doing that), so that’s another option.

          • Feistyslug

I would be shocked if they were bothered by us filling up comment rooms. This has to be good for the site right?

          • Canukistani

            I agree completely.

Now when we get to the Canadian page we might insist that everybody say eh once in awhile and the Brits might only want us to type on the right side of the screen, but we can work that out as we go :-)

          • Feistyslug

There’s a “rule” I can get behind!! eh?

    • Cynthia W.

I don’t recall anything being decided as to what goes where. The only reason we’re here is because someone posted a music link in the middle of a funny exchange and it just took off. When I went to Agora I saw one person with music and told her that there was music here and invited her. No rules as far as I know.

      • Feistyslug

Perfect!! I just kinda got a vibe and wanted to speak up.

    • TapestryMood

Agora was set for discussions and information..politics, environment, world events, philosophy..etc..
Each room has a description on top..Happy Hour is for general chat, music, sports, jokes..what ever…fun times.
If a musical choice expresses a discussion concept being described at Agora, I am certain it’s ok..
If Epoch wants sites for posters to be able to post within specific concepts.. ..I agree….it opens a door, not closes one, to more posting.

      • Feistyslug

I don’t see the descriptions you cite Tap, are they somewhere else?

        • OnyxE

It’s in the description above “Find all other meeting places at Epoch Forum.”

          • Feistyslug

It does not however relegate where music etc takes place.

          • TapestryMood

            Agora says politics, news, etc.
Happy Hour is here ..is THE place to have fun and rock out…….go with the flow….and it worked great yesterday….and will for most posters…
Happy Hour didn’t say sports either, but hopefully we sport nuts will be here and leave Agora for others for discussions of political and world interest, etc…not our non-stop chatting and woofing;-)

          • Feistyslug

It seems everyone has a little different idea about what each room is supposed to be for. That’s why I am speaking up so we can discuss it out in the open>

We are totally cool I hope. I value you and your opinion greatly!!

          • TapestryMood

Have a great day tomorrow…be good to the hub..poor baby;-)
            Go Hawks.!

          • Gin1234

Really when music links started on Agora or when a football game is on, there was no real conversation going on about politics or anything else anyway, so why does it matter if it is here, so people who are not interested and want more to talk about other things, can do so there. Everyone seems to be switching back and forth tonight, anyway. No one seems to be separating into two different groups, only those who are interested in different topics.

          • Feistyslug

My point is that it is nice to be able to have a mix. You may only see the music links, but it is often a mix – a political discussion leads to some music offereings which then leads to jokes and back around again. It feels organic to me.

I talked with you above about more comments under the articles themselves, I think we agree on that.

          • apogee2perogee

Yes, organic is my thought. Let things happen naturally, as they are wont to do….

        • TapestryMood

Top of the page of each page..way up top by th pictures…….always have had such since they opened up rooms for us from the beginning..

          .Agora….news, politics..

Happy Hour..come and enjoy a chat..
Many posters just don’t come ..or won’t post..when it is all sports, music etc..no problem having two tabs open..I do..and post back and forth from Agora and Happy Hour.

          • Feistyslug

Happy hour does not say music or sports as you cited above. And agora also says the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.

I don’t think there are any particular rules and I hope we can all stay totally mellow an not get too uptight about where certain conversations, music, topic etc take place.

Not looking for a disagreement. Just has been delightful here and past experience tells me when divisions start being implemented, it becomes a lot less fun.

My feeling is that ET has allowed us some latitude, just hope we can keep it all cool and groovy.

          • TapestryMood

Did you want a list of100 things, Feisty?
Epoch assumed we could deduct, eh?

          • Feistyslug

Not trying to irritate, you listed those things I wanted to clarify that they were not in fact that specific.

    • Intolerantcentrist

Thanks for putting your thoughts out there.

This forum is what we make of it; aside from general, acceptable rules of decorum we are free to take discussions wherever they go. No one person posting here gets to make “rules” as it were. But, there seems to always be someone who wants to make the rules for everyone else to follow.

      • Feistyslug

I agree that it has seemed we were given quite a bit of latitude, greatly appreciated!!

      • TapestryMood

Epoch put up descriptions for each room…they have been so gracious..why the problem having some specific areas whereby more posters might join in?

        • Feistyslug

Each time the public square has been moved, ppl say they have a hard time finding it, why complicate it by delegating where certain conversations have to take place.?

    • apogee2perogee

FWIW, I prefer a single thread with a variety of conversations and music….all in one.

      • Feistyslug

        I do as well. Thanks.

      • OnyxE

I don’t because what you get is pages of music links whenever someone decides they want to post music links.

      • Blue Eyed Bull

Agree. I have many windows open for work and having to open many windows for this site is just too damn tiring.

    • OnyxE

Sharyn is deaf so I think if she goes to the main thread and sees pages of music links she just leaves. I think there should be a separate thread for music.

      • Feistyslug

I am aware of Sharyn’s hearing loss. Sharyn has also joined in posting music links to her favorites to share. I would never imagine to speak for Sharyn as to what her decisions are.

    • Gin1234

When music links are being posted, mostly everything else comes to a stop. Some aren’t into linked music. Just keep two windows open and switch back and forth. It is working out pretty well for me that way.

      • TapestryMood

Me, too..and I see others doing it.
Tomorrow will be another example with those of us wanting to do Super Bowl. chats…now others can have Agora for politics, etc;-)

        • Gin1234

Totally agree. I think when people are playing music, they don’t notice the loss of others around them. I think everyone should be comfortable, and it is so easy to have two windows open so that you don’t miss either place. I don’t see the reason for Epoch to have created both Agora, and Happy Hour, if that isn’t what they intended.

          • Feistyslug

On the other hand, I have come into a totally quiet room and started with just a song or two and the place has livened up considerably!!

I am listening to what you are saying about the music friend. But it’s not just music that goes on and on and leaves others out, music is the easy target.

Many conversations will go on and on and really have no relevance to others on the thread, I think we all know just to scroll up or down past them.

        • Feistyslug

But Agora isn’t just for politics and politics, music, sports, etc are all so bound to each other.

For example you and I can be talking about our state politics and then want to chat about our favorite foot ball team. Do we have to change windows? Nah.

I really don’t think the ET administrators are this uptight about all of this. They are simply trying to accomodate our likes/dislikes.

There is also always the ability to discuss politics under the actual political article. Maybe that’s what we should all be more focused on.

          • Gin1234

Some of us have encouraged others to go to articles a lot, but no one does it. The articles tonight, that I have visited are empty.

          • Feistyslug

I hear ya friend. I think that is a problem as well. One thing I miss about HP is that you could go to the front page and see which articles had the most comments – head right over and roll your shirt sleeves up for some good political (or other news) discussion.

Do you think it would help if we could ascertain that from ET’s front page?

          • Gin1234

It would help to have the number of comments under the articles, I think, and also to be able to see all the articles at once, but Gidon or Ben, maybe, said one day that they are limited in what they can do by disqus. I would also like to have more political and relevant articles, but they may also be limited in what they can control that way, too. Most of their articles come form AP. They just don’t steal them, like HP did from where ever they wanted.

          • Feistyslug

It sounds like it is all a work in progress and money has certainly got to be a factor. Not everyone has cult members working for them for free . . . ;)

          • Canukistani

Hate to disagree, but I think ‘no one’ is a bit strong. I’ve had a couple of long chats with some folks out there on those articles and I’ve seen quite a few comments out there as well. Not every day, it’s true, but often. I’d like to see more of us out there, but some of us are out there every day.

          • Gin1234

I am out there everyday. Have you been there today, or the last couple of days? There is literally no one there on most of the articles, even the articles that all of us used to gravitate toward.

          • Feistyslug

Solutions? How do we fix this? Do we all take a pledge to comment under an article prior to entering the social zone?

          • Gin1234

It would seem that that would be a given, and people would just naturally do it, if not to just give back for having ET give so much to us. Why it doesn’t occur to some, I don’t know.

          • Feistyslug

Well maybe some of us are dense!! Ha!! OK just me, I think we could all benefit from a reminder to frequent the articles and comment. I agree we really need to show our appreciation.

          • apogee2perogee

Personally, I’ve been taking a break from politics. And it seems everything has become politicized. I could share a lot of insights about fracking, for instance, but the sides have hardened to the point that facts and insight aren’t all that welcome.

          • OnyxE

No comments doesn’t mean people aren’t reading the articles.

          • Canukistani

I was out there today in fact. It was a quick look today, longer yesterday, but every day I look at the top page, the Canadian page, the US news and political pages and then usually at least a few others.

Some days I don’t see anything that I have anything to say about, but I have more than once or twice posted the only comment an article has had. I’m not afraid to be first, or alone in commenting for that matter.

I’d like to see more of us doing that, but I don’t know enough about other people’s lives to make the rules for them. They have to do that for themselves. I do hope that more will join us, but that”s up to them.

        • Toastman

But, but, I have sworn off politics for 2014. One month in and I am much more calm.

          • apogee2perogee

I’m with you. Everyone is so dug in on their position that it seems futile to discuss.

          • Toastman

Where I live it’s politics all the time. We are already getting negative ads. Arrgh.

          • TapestryMood

            Fine.
So, how does having a Happy Hour thread impact that…don’t go to the political one, eh..stay here.

          • Toastman

            WELL, shun me :-(

      • Feistyslug

Scrolling through links is also quite easy, easier in fact that switching back and forth between windows.

Newcomers and occasional visitors can easily get turned off by complicating a chat room. That is one of my biggest concerns, we have found each other and would like to find others, making it difficult will not help this.

        • Gin1234
