Gordon Lightfoot .. who else to start the music here?

    • Sarah Sahasbeen

I think I had every LP of his, way back when. What I’ve give to have them back again.

      • Canukistani

Yeah, I had a couple or three of them too. I saw him a couple of times in his early days and he was always terrific, although for awhile it seemed like problems with his PA system were a regular part of the show.

      • Unlisted2u

        Hi Sarah..
Most likely will see you in Agora but will leave this note here too:
If you are serious about wanting Gordon vinyl, we will go through our stock for you. We are vinyl collectors / dealers.. Mr. Lightfoot isn’t high on the in-demand list, but I’m sure we have at least a couple three of his albums in our unsorted stock boxes..
Merely tossing this out there for you.. :)

Hi there. Popped in for a visit. Cold here where I am. Must be like Canada !!! AND we’re getting more snow today. I wish I could pack it all up and send it to California, where they need the water.

    • Canukistani

We’re having a pretty warm day today here. It’s about 32 F. Almost feels like summer after the last couple of weeks.

    G’day across-the-border friends..

Beauty eh! Now when one room gets too full we can visit the neighbors.

          • Unlisted2u

            And that IS a fact!

I can already see where I will be spending the majority of my time. I do so appreciate these wonderful folks here at ET for creating these rooms for us / everyone.. I hope there isn’t a problem getting we / us wiseacres to migrate to the proper room for our carrying-on’s — or is that carrying’s-on..? Whichever.. ;o)

          • Canukistani

We do have a lot to keep track of now. Might need 4 windows open to try to follow it all. I’m expecting to get dizzy.

          • Unlisted2u

            Me too, lol!
Don’t know if I’m quite ready for all this just yet.. May need to go lie down for a bit longer.. then re-attack it all later..

          • Canukistani

Yeah, I might have to schedule regular nap times and then KEEP TO THEM! Not an easy task.

          • Unlisted2u

Yeah — that’d never work for me.. My internal clock is wayyyy tooo screwed up these days to keep to any sort of pre-defined schedule..

So, my friends, Obama has gotten the petition to deport Justin Beiber. He HAS to look at it because it has the necessary amount of signatures. What do you all think about it?

    • Sarah Sahasbeen

Deport him and never ever let him come back here again. Enough is enough.

    • Canukistani

Normally I would hang my head and say, well, he’s one of ours and I suppose we have to take him back, but I read recently that our government is considering how Canadian citizenship works and they may be ready to offer a way out.

Apparently, they’re saying that maybe under certain “special circumstances” they should be able to revoke someone’s citizenship. I know they had this in mind for especially unsavory characters, but maybe if we raised a petition, we could have Beiber declared as one of these.

I don’t know where that would leave him, but it would give us both the chance to be rid of him, so it seems like a happy solution to this mess.

    • OnyxE

He’s a constant irritant so I don’t blame them; but I doubt they will actually deport him.

    • Ian_Llanganagain

Deportation yes. Back to Canada, no. Russia perhaps? Syria mebbe?

Here is how the Canadian government works….doctors in the Peace River area of Alberta are refusing to take patients with ailments that may be related to the filthy tarsands environment.

EDMONTON – Some Peace River area doctors are afraid to speak out about health impacts of oil and gas activity and in some cases have declined to treat area residents who wondered if their health problems were related to emissions, says one of two independent health experts hired by the Alberta Energy Regulator.

Doctors fear negative consequences to their careers if they speak out, and in one case, one lab refused to process a test, says Dr. Margaret Sears, an Ontario expert in toxicology and health who will appear this week at a special hearing into complaints about emissions from the Baytex oilsands operation 32 kilometres south of Peace River.

    http://www.edmontonjournal.com/Some+doctors+refused+treat+emission+area+residents+report/9405551/story.html

This is why we will never find serious environmental problems….the government has scientists, doctors, etc living in fear if they divulge anything.

    • Canukistani

Which is why we really have to get rid of this miserable and utterly contemptible imperial government of Harper and his henchmen. Working for the government shouldn’t mean that you have to turn your humanity off and toe the party line no matter what.

We need government scientists and other professionals who work for the government to speak out. They should be working for us, not the party in power.

      • OnyxE

I am really afraid when they simply say we need it ‘for the economy and jobs’ that makes people lose their little minds….they simply believe it. Some words are so powerful, people can’t think when they are uttered. Or money is so important to them nothing else matters.

        • Canukistani

I was reminding a friend this evening of words that were spoken by Robert Kennedy about the GNP ( now GDP) that I think are appropriate for us too, especially in these days of the Harper government …

Robert F. Kennedy on what GNP means.

Below is a quote from Bobby Kennedy on what the Gross National Product means and more importantly what it does not mean. He would have a made a fine economist…

“Too much and too long, we seem to have surrendered community excellence and community values in the mere accumulation of material things. Our gross national product … if we should judge America by that – counts air pollution and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage. It counts special locks for our doors and the jails for those who break them. It counts the destruction of our redwoods and the loss of our natural wonder in chaotic sprawl. It counts napalm and the cost of a nuclear warhead, and armored cars for police who fight riots in our streets. It counts Whitman’s rifle and Speck’s knife, and the television programs which glorify violence in order to sell toys to our children.

“Yet the gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage; neither our wisdom nor our learning; neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country; it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile. And it tells us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans.”

          • OnyxE

The Kennedy’s were something else…I am forever amazed how people who came from such a privileged family had this drive to give it all back to their country. They were one family in history.

I also like this quote by Eisenhower.

“As we peer into society’s future, we — you and I, and our government — must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering for our own ease and convenience the precious resources of tomorrow.

We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.”
            ― Dwight D. Eisenhower

          • Canukistani

I’m afraid, and I’m sure that many of our friends here at ET will agree, that America is diminished by the influence of the Right. And so are we.

That seems so clear to me that I have a hard time believing anyone who’s even a little honest with themselves can’t see that.

  • OnyxE

And here is the absolute and total hypocracy of people in BC…..smoking bad, pot bad, alcohol good as herbal tea. They are very happy they will now be able to buy alcohol with their rice krispies, drink with the kids in restaurants, serve hard liquor at hockey games.

    http://www.vancouversun.com/news/metro/liquor+laws+overhauled+Booze+sales+allowed+grocery+stores+kids/9454819/story.html

Alcohol is a risk factor for numerous chronic health conditions and diseases (such as cirrhosis of the liver and some cancers) and injuries (such as from road crashes and violence) as well as disability and death.

The economic impact of alcohol-related harm in Canada is estimated to cost $14.6 billion per year, according to the most recent study, The Costs of Substance Abuse in Canada 2002.
    http://www.ccsa.ca/Eng/Priorities/Alcohol/Pages/default.aspx

Cost of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder in Canada

In a recent Canadian study, the lifetime cost of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders was estimated at $1 million per case. With an estimated 4000 new cases yearly, this translates to $4 billion annually.

    http://www.cfp.ca/content/53/8/1303.full

Most Canadian teens do use alcohol:
62% of 15-17 year old Canadians used alcohol in the past year.
91% of 18-19 year old Canadians used alcohol in the past year.

    http://www.cpha.ca/en/portals/substance/article01.aspx

Also heard Bruce Allen whining on radio about the Marlboro man dying at 72 from smoking….so Iooked up famous people who had died from drinking…Jimi Hendrix choked on his own vomit when he was drunk, and there is a slew of people….I seriously DO NOT get how people are so in denial about how bad alcohol is.

    • chezmoi

Sad, isn’t it? 25 years ago, in the States, I used to tutor for a Goodwill literacy center. One of my students was affected by FAS: his parents were both alcoholic, died young. He was in his twenties, trying to learn to read, but he couldn’t concentrate or remember what we had done the week before, and suffered from varying bouts of dyslexia – he said the words kind of danced on the pages and he couldn’t pin them down. Yet he was good with his hands, could repair all kinds of things, from bikes to ovens to radios, in the GW shop. He wasn’t stupid, just handicapped by his parents’ alcohol use, which the government profits from, as they do from tobacco.

      • OnyxE

My sister drinks a lot and it affected all three of her kids; they all went through serious rebellious periods, the girl once pulled a knife on my dad when he was in his 70s even though it was him who gave them a home, she has a hair trigger temper; the youngest was diagnosed with ADHD in school and had to take ritalin which turned him into a little zombie so she took him off it and he never finished grade 12, has been in trouble, just can’t seem to get a grip on life; the oldest was into drugs including cocaine and although he had a great flooring business in calgary he was blowing through about 10,000 worth of coke a month….however he seems to have got through that and is doing well now. Growing up with an unstable alcoholic parent is just the worst. And yet we have these people pretending alcohol is as harmless to society as drinking tea….drives me nuts.

Lovely, Onyx. And it’s very true, a leader’s job is to uplift the others. Humans tend to forget that. Not to mention the part about taking care of the weaker members of the flock. Canada’s lucky to have these wise geese as an example.

Hello, neighbors to the north. What are your plans for today?

    • Ian_Llanganagain

Can speak for anyone else Cynth, but for me, having done my usual GRUELLING

Not a fan of football here. Just a bunch of silly men fighting over an oddly shaped ball. LoL !!! Can’t say that on the American dominated threads.

        • rg9rts

          We are watching you!

    • Canukistani
      • Cynthia W.

Wow. That looks like so much fun. As for sports, I will watch the Olympic figure skaters. Figure skating reminds me of ballet, and when I was a kid, I used to pretend I was a ballerina. My mom even made me a pink tutu, and I got pink satin ballet slippers for my birthday. Even now, I have framed ballet pictures everywhere.

        • Canukistani

A lot more fun than the snow I was just pushing around, that’s for sure! It is enjoyable to skate there when it’s not too cold (not much fun at -20 or colder) and there are places you can buy hot chocolate and beaver tails to munch on.

It’s nearly 8 kilometers long so you can visit a different part each time you go, unless you’re keen to skate the whole length – I’m not one of those, though :-)

I’ll watch a little olympic skating too but I’m not really a big sports fan. I enjoy the art of the figure skaters, though, especially the ice dancers.

        • apogee2perogee

Basketball sometimes reminds me of dance. But I love the team approach to the game (as opposed to superstars dominating a game). The improvisation and team work appeal to me.

Here’s a cause I’d like to see the NDP win for us, ATM fees! True it’s not of earth-shaking importance to most of us, but it’s just one more annoying way that the banks have their hands in our pockets.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ndp-steps-up-battle-against-atm-fees-1.2520486

    • Ian_Llanganagain

ATM fees? How about ALL banking and credit card fees and interest rates? There is absolutely no reason why any credit card needs to be more than say whatever+ prime = 10% annually. I am really hoping our new Free Trade Agreement with the EU brings us inline with Europe’s consumer protection laws which are much, much stronger than ours when it comes to what banks can and cannot do to hose customers.

      • Canukistani

I’m thinking that would be great and entirely reasonable, but at the same time I’m skeptical about anything serious gettting done through regulation by the current government.

There may be some reason to hope the EU deal will help, but I really don’t know how serious a hope that is. The banks usually get the terms they want and if they roll back the feres in one area, it’s only because they’ve figured out how to increase them in another. I guess I’ve just gotten resigned to it.

        • Sarah Sahasbeen

I wanted to ask you both a couple of questions. Do you have the new enhanced credit cards yet, like they do in Europe, or is Canada still stuck behind the times like we are here? Also, does Canada have digital passports yet like in Europe?

          • Ian_Llanganagain

Funny you would ask this – it was brought up previously on one of the main conversation threads a couple of weeks ago. In Canada, we’ve had chips in our credit cards and bank cards for quite a few years now, but then we also had “the stripe” on the back before you did ;-) We now have RFID chips so we can do “tap ‘n’ go” payments (anything under a certain limit, as defined I don’t know how) as well, instead of entering our 4 digit codes. Yes, the ‘Murrikkans are VERY, VERY, VERY behind the rest of the world in this particular area.

Here’s an indication of just how free-flowing information from this Harper government of ours is. They may say the word transparency, but judging by this, no morsel of anything that’s actually spontaneous is allowed to escape alive.

Maybe they modelled their communication policy on that famous carousel we’ve seen in action.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/government-tweets-sanitized-through-super-rigid-process-1.2520731

    • OnyxE

And we pay for all this sanitizing. This does not strike me as any kind of democratic country. It’s a joke.

      • Canukistani

Agreed. Not only do they do this kind of stuff, which ought to be bad enough in itself, but they make us pay for them to do it as well. Thoroughly disgusting.

  • OnyxE

It’s a mystery and a miracle how this information got out!

“OTTAWA — Satellite imagery used by the federal government to review a major bitumen leak last year in Alberta has found the project’s steam-based extraction caused “measurable levels of ground deformation in the area of the leak” at a rate 10 times faster than other oilsands operations.”

    http://www.theprovince.com/technology/Satellite+data+sound+alarm+safety+bitumen+extraction/9460003/story.html

“More than one million litres of bitumen has seeped to the surface from the major leak, which still continues several months later, albeit very slowly during the winter months.”

……it is just leaking perpetually and they can’t stop it. FFS, seriously where are people’s brains??

For several months now, oil has been bubbling up out of the ground in four locations near Cold Lake, Alberta. Over 1.5 million litres of “bitumen emulsion” (a combo of heavy crude and water) has been found on a military base that’s also used by Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) for oil extraction. Officials have no way of capping the underground oozing, which has many scientists, environmentalists and First Nations worried.

    http://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/a-mysterious-oil-spill-in-cold-lake-alberta-cant-stop-wont-stop

    • Canukistani

I would bet that whatever the evidence, little if anything will be done to slow down the pace of extraction. Any official action that would address this issue and might prevent it happening again or at least reduce the risk of it happening in the future will be delayed for ‘further study’. It’s all about the dollars it brings in today.

As far as I’m concerned, the people who make the decisions about this and their families should have to live next door to their projects so that if there’s any problems, they’ll be the ones that are most affected. I suspect that might change a few minds.

  • OnyxE

    I don’t see my comment.

I saw it in the bar earlier. You may want to give it a try in Agora as well. With all these rooms, it seems that multiple tabs or windows is the way to try to see what’s going on around.

Get him out of our country. Why do we have to be saddled by him and his juvenile antics? I’m sure he considered the fact that just maybe the pilots might have been allergic or something and the plane could have crashed.

    • OnyxE

I can’t even look. His sucky face makes me want to hit him up one side of it and down the other. He is just so nauseating.

  • OnyxE

Banging my head against the wall….having an argument with someone about the tar sands, pollution, etc and finally asked him where was his scientific proof the world is doing fine. His scientific response was our population numbers and a video of one of ariannas friends giving a TED talk. ding dong.

Rick Halas “And what are your sources saying we are doing fine?” – 7 billion people and climbing.

… just to make it worse.

Did you see the statistic that 85 people hold more wealth that the lowest 3.5 BILLION? Talk about man’s cruelty to man.

      • OnyxE

Yes I saw that. I could not stand to have that much money, I would just feel too guilty; not to mention I couldn’t stand such an ostentatious lifestyle. What kind of humans can they possibly be??

        • Canukistani

What gives me some hope for the future is that I have a 13 year old niece that doesn’t understand how anybody could want to be owning multiple homes while there were still poor people anywhere.

If there are many like her out there, there may well be better days ahead … if we can get there.

          • chuckwhite

I am alternately hopeful and distressed by the state of our children. The lack of history, math and literature scares me no end. But, as you say, the awareness of the interdependence of all things (us included) seems to be firmly implanted in them.

          • Canukistani

I think that in most cases, kids aren’t getting as good a formal education as we did. But somehow, in spite of that, some at least are developing a better set of values, a sense that conspicuous consumption isn’t a goal they should be interested in. Our way didn’t work out so well. Maybe theirs has a chance.

    • chuckwhite

I just watched the TED talk you cite. And can understand why your discussion partner says the world is doing fine.

Of course, I was also watching for the professor to show the changes in income and/or wealth distribution. Those statistics never showed up. The only (subtle) caveat the professor talked about was regarding how wide regional differences could be within countries.

For the professor’s purposes, certainly the world is making positive gains. He is promoting better, more available statistics. I would LOVE to use his same analysis techniques to demonstrate the effects of Republican/Democratic parties in the US … maybe toss in the Tea Party … THEN see how OUR part of the world looks.

      • OnyxE

I was thinking along the lines of pollution and destruction of the environment, the amazon, animals near extinction, ocean polluted, water polluted and water shortages, air pollution, acid rain …I didn’t think he was going to address these major problems threatening our existence. Even in clean Canada, 6000 people die prematurely because of dirty air every year. In China, over 500,000 people die prematurely because of their smog.

        • chuckwhite

That too … very much. I’m just on a “dysfunction of government” kick lately … though, in the long run, your point is likely more important.

          • OnyxE

They’re probably related…dysfunction of government and destruction of the environment.

          • chuckwhite

            Well said.

      • Richard M

I remember hearing one of those Fed Reserve chair-doofuses saying that it was just fine that the 1/10th of 1% own most of the nations wealth, property, assets, etc.

His idea was that we should be happy that someone has lots of money, even though we have none ourselves.

  • OnyxE

The BC Libs (‘liberals’ in BC are really federal conservatives or would be republicans in the US) want to put slot machines on the ferries now. The ferry system is in financial difficulty. Not that it has anything to do with the million dollar salary plus perks the previous CEO was getting or the way this government pi**es money away like drunken sailors. Washington ferries just across the line pays their manager a fraction of that and they are doing fine down there.

This government’s election motto was ‘families first’……

And never mind BC already has had the highest child poverty rate in North America for years and not that BC doesn’t already have huge problems with homelessness and drug addiction, and gambling addicts the more casinos we have.

And of course CKNW’s mouthy opinionated 1%er Philip Till is all in favor. I swear he doesn’t do any research at all anymore…just mouths his opinions. I told him on facebook he was becoming an airhead who never did any research – with my real FB identity, so I am accountable and standing behind my opinions!!!!. Totally ticked off listening to this windbag.

“Slot Machines Are Designed to Addict”

Studies by a Brown University psychiatrist, Robert Breen, have found that individuals who regularly play slots become addicted three to four times faster (in one year, versus three and a half years) than those who play cards or bet on sports.

    • Canukistani

From what I’ve been able to gather, it seems that in BC just calling themselves Liberal doesn’t make the BC Liberals liberal in any noticeable way. It seems like the same kind of scam as calling the federal Conservatives Party progressive. Any party that can’t be even trusted to at least pick a name that’s reflective of who they are certainly shouldn’t be trusted in more important matters either

Hard to believe that there are some voters who don’t look past a party’s name and try to figure out who they’re choosing to lead them, but that must be the case or the parties wouldn’t be using these flim-flam tricks to win votes.

As far as these kinds of issues go, it’s pretty clear that here, as everywhere, these people will do anything and everything to collect every penny they can for themselves and expect somebody else to cover any short-fall they leave behind. Would it be too cruel of me to suggest that public floggings need to be brought back as a remedy?

      • OnyxE

Well you notice Harper made our former Liberal premier Gordon Campbell the ‘High Commissioner’ to Britain. Campbell was basically forced to resign after he brought in the HST of12% and people were so upset…we forced a referendum on that and had it reverted back to GST and PST…but it cost us a billion dollars to the federal government. Our Libs are total cons.

        • Canukistani

I did see some of that and I thought it was outrageous that you folks would be put through that and have to fight so hard over it. It just goes to show that a stinkweed by any other name will still smell just as foul.

      • Richard M

It seems like it’s pretty much a common thing worldwide. I was reading about the Australian PM from the “Liberal Party” who is actually a Conservative. Then you have your Sharia parties in N Africa and Turkey with names like Justice & Development when their actual agenda is imposing Seventh Century barbarism.

Europe and Japan have Liberal Democratic, and Christian Democratic parties that are about as liberal, Christian and democratic as Attila the Hun was.

        • Canukistani

It’s true. It’s pretty common for one country’s left to be another country’s right and vice versa depending on the the counties you use for comparison.

What makes this different to me is that this comparison is happening within the same country without even doing any rebranding. Our Conservative party of Canada did something like it awhile back when they started calling themselves The Progressive Conservative Party. They had no change in policy, they just wanted to look more moderate than they were.

It appears that the provincial Liberal party in British Columbia didn’t even have the good grace to change their brand. They just went to the right and expected nobody to notice. I don’t live in BC, so I’m not familiar with the nuances, but from what I’ve read and from what OnyxE said, them even calling themselves liberal is the same nonsense as the conservatives calling themselves progressive.

      • Canukistani

Hi there! Good to see you (if you’re still here)! Yeah, Disqus was a lot worse last night. It’s getting better but there are still some odd problems showing up.

        • allison1050

Sorry it too so long to get back to you but I have a question for you. Do you still have “notifications” showing near the number of comments showing? Mine disappeared a few days ago and I’ve gone into the Setting and made certain that Daily was checked and saved and it’s still not showing. I’ve left a message so maybe a mod will get back to me. So people were having disappearing comments last night?

          • Canukistani

Hi! Yeah, Disqus has been making some changes and it’s been causing some problems. If you look over on the right by your username at the top of the thread you’ll see a red circle with a number in it. That’s where your notifications are now.

You nor rg were NOT a hindrance to me since I was at my wits end not knowing what to try next–not in my book If for no other reason than just hanging in there with me trying to come up with ideas as to what to try next. My pc needed to have its history of cookies cleared, which of course I didn’t know how to do and someone explained how to do that, so it’s been a great learning experience for me all the way around. I got to bed yesterday at 3a and slept for 4 hrs, I’ve now caught up on sleep. If you come across ddave introduce yourself, he hung in there off and on for several hours also. You 3 are the best!! Hugs and kisses and many thank you guys.

Starving polar bears resorting to eating birds eggs. I’m not sure but isn’t this where puffins breed?

“There were more than 300 nests in the bird colony when the polar bear arrived. When it meandered off with a belly full of eggs only 24 nests remained, say scientists who witnessed the “near total” destruction of nests on the bird colony off Baffin Island.”

I thought they had a handle on lead poisoning among birds. Trumpeter swans in the pacific nw of the USA and southwest Canada are still drying in high numbers due to lead poisoning.

February 17, 2011) One of North America’s most iconic birds, the Trumpeter Swan, is dying in unusually high numbers from lead poisoning in the Northwest U.S. and in Southwest Canada according to the Northwest Raptor and Wildlife Center (NRWC) and the Canadian Wildlife Service in Delta, Vancouver.

    http://www.abcbirds.org/newsandreports/stories/110217.html

A year ago we found a dead trumpeter swan in the pond of my favorite park…the only one I’ve seen in my life. It was beautiful but dead. Now I suspect it may have died of lead poisoning. It had no marks on it so it wasn’t killed by a coyote.

I’m a Canucki of the heart, does that count? :-) Stopped in to say HI northern buddies! My passport wasn’t checked coming in and I swear I’m not trying to smuggle Cruz back in, so the border crossing was easy. It’s nice to have access to you and your fine syrup here. :-)

      • Canukistani

It does, indeedy! I’ll speak to my fellow constables and make sure they treat you right. Grab some those fine beaver tails to munch on while you take the tour too. They’re mighty tasty eh!

        • HeyJude

The constables have been very jolly and kind…I shied away from the crunchy beaver tails, so the good natured constables offered me chocolate covered beaver “raisins”….which were quite good! They had a woodsy flavor, and had this amazing crackle candy coat of things that looked like pine needles, leaves, and bark. :-) Sorry it took so long to come back and say Hi to you…I took the tour over the falls in a barrell, and it took a while for them to find me in the lower river.

          • Canukistani

Excellent! They are quite good at following orders. If the beaver tails aren’t appealing, you may want to order up some poutine. Just don’t get too fond of it. We call it heart attack in a box for a reason. In moderation, though, it’s quite a tasty treat. Combined with glass of our fine ale, it wards off the cold quite effectively and is just the thing after barreling over the falls.

          • Canukistani

          • allison1050

Yep Canuk you’re right about you either saw it or didn’t and then gab about it at school–it was thrilling to even talk about it. Remember the boys wanted those same haircuts?

          • Canukistani

That was the start of long hair for many of us. A lot of parents were upset about that one too, until we got a little farther down that road and they saw that was the least of their problems :-)

This is why people who grew up in Vancouver can’t really afford to live here anymore. Just call Vancouver ‘Cayman Islands 2′. Our government is basically engineering the population with this…favoring the rich.

Vancouver immigration lawyer-researcher Richard Kurland and an
intrepid ethnic Chinese journalist have uncovered an amazing story about
how more than 45,000 wealthy Chinese are on a waiting list to come to
British Columbia through the country’s “investor” immigrant program.

The number of “investor” applications from wealthy Chinese is six
times higher than that for all other English-speaking countries with
investor programs combined, writes Ian Young, who is now based in
Vancouver after serving as international editor for the South China
Morning Post, which is based in Hong Kong.

Given that 95 per cent of all Chinese migrants to British Columbia
end up in Metro Vancouver, Young writes that the upward impact of so
many wealthy newcomers on the city’s housing prices could be
devastating, making homes even more unaffordable for the young.

Here is the lead to SCMP’s exclusive story, headlined: “Vancouver facing an influx of 45,000 more rich Chinese:”

Oh Harper, taking us back to the dark ages faster than a speeding bullet.

Canada’s largest union representing scientists and professional public employees
now estimates that between 2013 and 2016, $2.6 billion and 5,064 jobs will be cut from 10 science-based federal departments.

A new report by the Professional Institute of Public Service of Canada (PIPSC), “Vanishing Science,” catalogues cuts to science programs, budgets and staff by the government.

“The Harper government’s efforts to balance the federal budget in time for the 2015 election is being built on deep, unpopular cuts to public science that put at risk Canadians’ health, safety and the environment,” said PIPSC president Debi Daviau in
a press release. – See more at: http://thetyee.ca/Blogs/TheHook/2014/02/12/Federal-Science-Cuts/#sthash.Zpudu5AY.dpuf

    • Canukistani

Harper, like most of those on the right, has no concern for science and no use for scientists that may turn up inconvenient facts. He seems hell-bent on privatization of as many government services as he can as well by cuttting, cuttting, cutting.

He’s also doing his best to destroy any bargaining power that government employees, or other workers, for that matter, have. By doing all this he’s hoping to benefit his business friends and has no concern whatever for the rest of us.

What these people are forever failing to see is that unless people have disposable income there will be nobody to buy the products and services that these businesses hope to provide. When that happens will it be up to the government to keep propping them up? Will they be the ultimate in lazy good-for-nothing welfare clients? How else will they survive with no customers?

As I’ve said before, as long as these guys are in charge we’re on the road to feudalism.

And a very good day to you aussi, eh! Bright and cold here today, but that’s what we expect for Feb, so all is well. I hope things are fine in your neck of the woods as well.

Sadly OnyxE’s name change is the result of some kind of problem yesterday. I wasn’t here when it happened so my take on it might not be entirely accurate but this is what I could gather.

Whether it was a Disqus glitch or otherwise is unclear, because we did have a number of odd things happen yesterday, including comments disappearing temporarily, including at least one of mine. They did come back after awhile, including the ones she made, but it was definitly odd. In any case, she felt her posts were being censored unfairly and, she said she was leaving ET and abruptly did so.

Later in the evening someone noticed her name change. It seems to read as a goodbye to ET and all of us and, in light of what happened, it appears that’s what she meant. I guess we’ll have to await further developments, if there are any.

Doing well! Glad to see you, though. I can use a co-host(ess).

          • phoebequeen

You’re going to be busier than a $2 ho working 2 beds!

          • Canukistani

That;’s ok. It’s good to see so many friendly faces! Besides if everybody has a beer or two, they’ll prolly pass out anyway.

          • phoebequeen

That’s the Canuk spirit! My husband works with some Canadian pilots. Fun guys, eh!

          • nancy/still hopeful

I’d be honoured…I don’t drink so you can go for it and I’ll keep an eye on things ;-)

          • Canukistani

            Ⓗⓘⓒ!

          • nancy/still hopeful

    • Ricki Urban

Hi, Nancy!! Great to see you! Cheers to you and Canuk for inviting us into your abode! :D

      • nancy/still hopeful

ahhh hello sweetie!!!! you are so welcome-I followed his trail here myself-he’s such a gracious host!
hope you are feeling better after the last time I saw you!! hugs!!!

        • Ricki Urban

          I am, thanks. You were really wonderful for helping me get thru it, Nancy. And I was so thankful to have somewhere to go where everyone was warm and understanding. Great community we have here! {{{hugs}}}

          • nancy/still hopeful

how true is that-esecially from the people that understood what happened and didn’t get you to relive the sadness while correcting their (MINE) error!!! you are a love Ricki!!!

  • FaunaAndFlora

Can I get an honorary Canadian citizenship?

    • Canukistani

      I think that’s Nancy’s department.

    • nancy/still hopeful

      DONE!!!
now say ‘eh’… just to make it official!

      • apogee2perogee

I thought a shot of rye was required?

        • nancy/still hopeful

sure-that’s perfect, or a six pack of Canadian beer!!!
I live in the town in Manitoba that distills Crown Royal Rye ;-)

          • apogee2perogee

I used to attend training often with Canadians from the company’s Canadian subsidiary. They out drank us and were often drinking rye. I’ve had more than my share of Crown Royal, but the Canadian whiskey version.

          • nancy/still hopeful

brutal…I have had too many ‘shares’ of that one!!!
we do know how to drink!!!

        • JasmineStarlight

rye shot with a beer chaser….we will be falling under the commas soon

          • nancy/still hopeful

or Jasmine-gropping the shot glass with rye into the glass of beer!!! not that I ever did that!!! lmao

          • JasmineStarlight

Nah we know nancy…. shhhhhh :)

          • nancy/still hopeful

whew…I’ve only seen other people doing it!!! ;-)

          • apogee2perogee

I doubt I could endure many of those….

          • JasmineStarlight

me neither, but, I’ll try one!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

I believe in the eastern provinces, they dunk the shot into the mug of beer.

          • JasmineStarlight

Sarah maybe you should go on Jeapordy…..and that sounds like great fun dunking the shot into beer mug :)

      • FaunaAndFlora

        Thank you, eh?

        • nancy/still hopeful

          YOU ARE IN!!!

          • FaunaAndFlora

            :-)

      • JasmineStarlight

Eh Eh…. I call this PARTY to order—what’s our first on our agenda tonight!
Hi Nancy…. I;m still hopeful too!

        • phoebequeen

Wait, wait, wait… have to pee because I saw the word beer. BRB.

          • JasmineStarlight

Phoebe….hurry up will wait for you—LOL
no burping either, you’re one classy phoebe cat…..the Avi looks like royalty, an image to up hold.

          • phoebequeen

I’m back and I found chocolate! She was a beautiful kitty, funny too.

          • JasmineStarlight

OK let the party commence…..where’s the chocolate share with your friends. What do you think is the most important topic today Phoebe…throwing some questions out there to ponder, how this parliament is thinking :)

          • phoebequeen

It’s milk chocolate with creamy caramel middle; Gertrude Hawke. {Breaks of square, passes it over to little fairy}. So….. was just listening to Chris Matthews, and they were talking about bridgegate and how there are reports that police officers were going over to cars that were stuck in traffic and telling them if they were made, to call the mayor of Fort Lee and complain. Hmmmm… something just doesn’t sound right about any of this. Then, there is the report on North Korea and how they are just as bad as Nazi’s, which is really no surprise there. Those people need to organize!!!

          • JasmineStarlight

I would die for that candy creamy chocolate with marshmallow gooey stuff inside…. I thought I would explode from V-Day candy :)
I too agree I wonder why the North Korea people don’t rise in unison and fight that dictator…..they’ve have been starved and brainwash since child birth though. Nothing to lose anymore, he tortures and everyone fears for their life, I rather lose mine fighting it…. It’s sad to read about, some must live this way. I hope that guy get’s his head on a post some day.
AND Chris crispy….is a deplorable human being too—perhaps not on the same scale as N. Korea leader…….unbelievable, he was trying to also blame it on the Fort Lee leader—it boggles my mind. I need another beer.

          • phoebequeen

There is a good documentary on POV on PBS about how North Koreans have a lot more info about the outside world because there are people willing to smuggle in thumb drives with movies and tv shows showing what the reality of the world is. It’s pretty eye opening. They are willing to risk a lot more behavior now too. So sad. Somebody needs to stick a fork in the great leader as he is done!

          • Richard M

I don’t think thumb drives and CDs do you a lot of good in a slave hut, without electricity.

          • phoebequeen

This was people in towns and villages, not in the death camps. There are many people who are risking their lives secretly filming all this. I think it must be glasses or something that wouldn’t be noticed. Just watching peoples reaction to a cd of something other than North Korea is bizarre. People there are slowly beginning to become aware of the world and that is a good thing.

          • Richard M

Hope you’re right. Dictatorships can last a long time.

          • phoebequeen

Agree, especially when they start killing off family members to keep in power. Keep hoping that there is actually a plan, like Argo, behind the whole Dennis Rodman thing, but don’t think he is really that bright.

        • nancy/still hopeful

ok Jasmine…music-drinks and food…let’s get this party started!!!

          • JasmineStarlight

That sounds good, even though it’s only Monday– will start early :)
Hey in the house of parliament — we have to solve the worlds problems….what’s the first one we should tackle. Perhaps it better to chill….those tealoons and gangster candidates is a huge chore to bust open. To bad we can’t get Christy in here to interrogate :)

          • nancy/still hopeful

we have our very own Christie-ROB FORD!!! only dumber…if you an imagine what a wreck that combination is!

          • JasmineStarlight

            :) bring it on!

          • nancy/still hopeful

alright!! we could tag team them!!!

      • Richard M

        Ich bin ein Canuk, eh?

        • nancy/still hopeful

          you are in Hon!!!

    • geezer 56

And do we have to start speaking French? I hope not. I’m a hopeless monolinguist.

      • JasmineStarlight

        Wee-Wee — I hope that’s enough to get a cold beer here :)

        • FaunaAndFlora

You took the words right out of my mouth. Seriously, I was writing something along those lines when your comment appeared!

          • JasmineStarlight

That’s all I know…..love it though, picture the accent.
same wave length on that one friend :)

        • Canukistani

Umm, no, that’s what you do after the beer.

          • JasmineStarlight

Someone has to find Fiesty and invite her over :)
            She brings great tunes too—

          • JasmineStarlight

I had a feeling that would come back to bite me. :) after one beer with me….be- lining for the ladies room.

        • Ricki Urban

          lolz!!!

    • JasmineStarlight

Are you on the lamb Fauna!! A double agent or something.

      • FaunaAndFlora

        I’ll never tell. ;-)

        • JasmineStarlight

Mmmmmn just what I thought, double-agent. Well, your secrets safe with me.
No hits needed on me…. I have a few secrets too—-mums the word!

          • FaunaAndFlora

            Deal!

  • phoebequeen

I’m told this is the place for bacon? and beer? Sniff, sniff, sniff, smells like pine trees and syrup. Oh goody.

    • Canukistani

Come in! Be welcome! Just be careful of the beer. It’s a tad strong.

      • phoebequeen

I like my beer strong. If a straw can stand up straight, I’m good.

        • Canukistani

Then you’re in the right place!

        • Ricki Urban

lolz!! Hi, phoebe! Nice to meet you! :D

          • phoebequeen

Hey, back at ya. Are you a hp refugee too?

          • Ricki Urban

Yes, I am! Was there since late 2009. How about you?

          • phoebequeen

2010 until Dec. 10th, 2013. Then , I was turned out, on the street with nothing but the fur on my back for warmth. Until I found the peeps here again!

          • Ricki Urban

Yep, that was quite a day! Was phoebequeen your moniker over there as well? It’s great that so many managed to make it here, too and Epoch was so wonderful to lay out the welcome mat! :D

          • phoebequeen

Yep. My micro bio was ” I blame the dog.”

      • JasmineStarlight

Strong and a chilled glass, now we’re talking :)

      • Shanti108

Do Canadians drink their beer cold like U.S. people, (see how I went out of my way not to say “Americans”?) or warm like the British? Also, what is a good Canadian beer?

EDIT: ok I see you recommend Alexander Keith. So thanks.

    • JasmineStarlight

lol! Hiya phoebequeen purrrfect you showed up….give the place some class :)

      • phoebequeen

You are too kind, and just keep the tequila locked up.

        • JasmineStarlight

Don’t worry it’s by me, under lock and key :)

  • AskandTell

I put on my Maple Leaf sweatshirt in honor of our favorite neighbor.

    • Canukistani

Excellent! We appreciate the nod. Come in, be welcome! Grab a beer.

      • Richard M

        What flavors are you serving?

        • Canukistani

I’d recommend an Alexander Keith’s to start. It’s tasty.

  • eyelashviper

Evening folks, can’t stay long, taking a new medication that makes me very zombie like after dark….
Always good to see such cheery faces, a real necessity in the world of woes that we all inhabit.
Will have a glass of pinot grigio with you all, and then wander off to bed….

    • Canukistani

Sounds like a good plan to me!

    • geezer 56

      ‘Night, EV, and thanks!

      • eyelashviper

:>)) wishing good energy from those photos…..

      • eyelashviper
        • geezer 56

          That video…does not exist!

          • eyelashviper

Try again, I had to copy it, as my computer is going nuts, and all my bars have disappeared…
            it works now.

          • geezer 56

Oh, yes! Very much appreciated. :)

          • eyelashviper

            :>))

    • phoebequeen

I understand. I had to take some meds once, for a full body rash, felt like my head was a pretty balloon. A pretty, purple balloon.

      • eyelashviper

LOL, mine is not so pretty, not even purple…

        • phoebequeen

Well, if you bang your head against something for a few minutes, that might make it change color? Worth a try. Might match your avatar pic then.

          • eyelashviper

I’ll pass, and just have another glass of vino, and maybe even howl at the moon….it’s brilliant tonight.

          • phoebequeen

That is less painful for sure. In more ways than one. Love the moon on snow.

    • apogee2perogee

      G’nite, eyelashviper, sleep well…..

  • Sarah Sahasbeen

Is it all right if I speak French here since it is an official language of your beautiful country?

    • nancy/still hopeful

lmao…of course it is and like in our beautiful country-you may be on of a few but please feel free!!! ;-)

      • Sarah Sahasbeen

I knew when I was at the international conference of French teachers in Quebec City in 2008 that I should have taken that professor’s advice and applied to the University of Winnipeg for a job. He said they couldn’t get enough qualified people there.

        • nancy/still hopeful

no one wants to live in the arctic for 6 months of the year!!! brutally cold here! we have a huge french population here and as we speak there is the Festival de Voyager on that is a great peek into the historical settlement of our French and Metis pioneers…you would love the beauty and summers here though!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

Considering what we’ve had to put up with here so far this winter, I think I could handle it. I’ve been to winter Carnaval in Québec City three times so far, and that was bearable.

          • nancy/still hopeful

oh ok…come on up then-I’ll show you around and make you comfortable here! my daughter attends the U of W…loves it there!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

C’est chouette. I can be an ex-pat and make more money without the US knowing,eh?

          • nancy/still hopeful

this just gets better and better by the minute Sarah!!!

          • Canukistani

I think you’re probably right, but keep in mind that that’s what happens every year. The trick is to learn not to mind.

  • Ricki Urban
    • nancy/still hopeful

      LMAO…love it!!!

    • Canukistani

I like it too! BTW, I’ve been posting Canadian music now and then here for the last couple of weeks. There’s a number of treats if you go back a bit.

      • Ricki Urban

Great, Canuk! Or you could start posting some tunez for us now?!! Or when your host duties slow down a bit!! :D

    • Sarah Sahasbeen

That is only one. I feel I must provide the other one as well.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8Sw6ScUmnk

      • Ricki Urban

Cheers, Sarah!! Makes me wish I had not let my French go by the wayside. I was fluent at one time but not many speak it here in FL. :( Although, I considered a post as a French teacher at a language immersion school here – which I turned down – another regret!

        • Sarah Sahasbeen

You should have taken it. I went fourteen years after getting my BA and finally started teaching – it was like I had never left it.

          • Ricki Urban

I should have because it was still there – I was just so apprehensive having been away from it for so long! That’s amazing you went 14 years!!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

Sometimes life gets in the way; plans get scuttled and elderly parents need caring for.

  • nancy/still hopeful

and for the Olympic update!!! you guys have moved up to 4th place and we have dropped to 8th…well done!!! I know there is still many events left to come-great to see you guys moving up in the pack!!!

    • Canukistani

A hearty bravo to our American friends!! Well done!

      • nancy/still hopeful

yes-they just took gold in the free skate pairs today-stunning performance!!

        • Canukistani

Didn’t they win the ice dancing too?

          • nancy/still hopeful

yes…that was part of the event-very great pair of skaters!

    • Sarah Sahasbeen

It’s just our American exceptionalism coming through at last.

      • nancy/still hopeful

lol…we need to step up ours by the looks of things!!!

  • Canukistani

Just my opinion folks, but to me this thread scrolls a lot faster and smoother than Agora does now.

    • Ricki Urban

      Totally agree! Big diff!

    • phoebequeen

It’s keeping my typing skills up, but something sticky is here somewhere! Think it’s the T.

    • apogee2perogee

It certainly seems a bit faster and smoother to me.

      • Canukistani

I hope this move will solve our problem for a while. Looks good so far.

        • Ricki Urban

          Great move, imo!

      • Ricki Urban

Good to see you, A2P!! :D

        • Ricki Urban

          Sorry!
Edit: A2P – I blame it on the beer! lolz!

          • Canukistani

            I warned you.

          • Ricki Urban

Indeed, you did, Canuk! lolz! I have to run to the shops for a bit – please save me a beer!

          • Canukistani

Will do. Don’t fall over on the way!

          • Ricki Urban

            Haha!

        • apogee2perogee

Hi Ricki, good to see you too. Did you have a good weekend?

          • Ricki Urban

A bit subdued, but doing better now, thanks! How was your’s?

          • apogee2perogee

Understand the subdued. I had a nice weekend, dinner out at a nice Italian, sort of nouvelle Italian, with my sweety and grand daughter . Had a hard time this morning with some ice falling on top of all else, the country roads were very slick. Nearly slipped off into a deep shoulder. But it is thawing here today and will thaw more quickly tomorrow.

          • Ricki Urban

Dinner sounds lovely! Thank goodness, you didn’t slip into that shoulder! I do worry about you all contending with the ice – so dangerous, it is! Let me blow some of our warm air up your way to help quicken that thaw! WHOOOOOOOOOSH!

        • apogee2perogee

That’s ok, that would probably mean two cycles of the sine wave….

          • Ricki Urban

            ruh roh!!

  • Canukistani

A Canadian band to celebrate our first party … The Guess Who – Share The Land. It seems appropriate.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG9MHBrl_DY

    • Ricki Urban

      Hooray! :D

  • Shanti108

Speaking of the Olympics, I made the mistake of telling a few Polish friends my theory that ski jumping should not be an Olympic event because what they do requires no athletic ability and is just simple falling body physics. Indeed, that what they do is something normally called “falling”. I have been saying this for years and of course had no idea Poland would take the gold in that event. Looks like I won’t be getting any perogie invites for a while.

    • apogee2perogee

It is often said that ‘timing is everything’, but evidently mis-timing can be significant too, eh?

      • Shanti108

Yes. I always get enough flak from the ski jump lovers. Throw the Polish gold aspect in and it couldn’t have been more poorly timed. I think the universe is telling me to quit complaining about ski jumping and just learn to shut up and appreciate the sport. Or at least, to just shut up.

        • apogee2perogee

heh heh I’ve had that perception, on occasion, myself….

  • Feisty

    Happy Hour eh?

This song came on during my hike today – it is such an old friend.

Nice to see you again. I’m giving French lessons in the back room.

      • Feisty

Awesome – just point me in “le” direction.

        • Sarah Sahasbeen

It’s “la” direction, but don’t worry, it gets better.

          • Feisty

            Obviously I need a tutor.

          • JasmineStarlight

Feisty we better brush up on our French….Don’t want to end up in the mens room….unless :)

          • Feisty

            That would be an icebreaker!!

          • Canukistani

Lotta ice up here, but I’m betting you could break it!

          • Feisty

I would give it my best Feisty shot!!

          • Richard M

I need a tater! Bar tender! One poutine at table seven!

          • chezmoi

That’ because ‘ions’ are girls. ‘Protons’ are boys.

            Salut, tout le monde!

      • JP boi

        What back room?

        • Shanti108

          L’arrière-salle

          • JP boi

Sounds very nice. Is it another site like Agora? I’m new here. Not too familiar with everything just yet.

          • Shanti108

No, there is no back room. It was just a joke.
            Welcome to Canada Land.

          • phoebequeen

Can we call it Candy Land?

          • Canukistani

            Candy with maple sugar!

          • Canukistani

Just another room. Agora was starting to get glitchey, I think because it has so many comments. The threads seem to do that at around 15K of comments. This one was under 200. Nice and clean.

          • Toastman

For a couple of weeks at least.

          • JP boi

            Aha…interesting.

        • Sarah Sahasbeen

Welcome, JP. Sorry about the joke. We sometimes kid around a little here. Don’t think we’ve run into each other yet, but it’s always nice to see new faces. I’ll go find Canuk or Nancy and get you a beer.

          • JP boi

Ha! Love it. I’m displaced from my ol stomping grounds at HP. So a Lil birdie informed me of this location. I’ve decided to move in. My huskys name is Kaya, my name is Judy and I go by JP boi. Nice to meet you!

          • nancy/still hopeful

hey Judy!!! great to see you here! I imagine you are finding lots of old friends and feeling welcomed!

    • geezer 56

Wrong hemisphere. Even more so tonight. ;)

      • Feisty

Such a warm song – such a great song. Not too many “damn it’s cold outside” song that are not xmas carols.

        • geezer 56

          Somewhere I have that album…

          • Feisty

            Vinyl I am guessing.

          • geezer 56

            But of course! :)

          • apogee2perogee

One that I have on vinyl and on cd….

    • JP boi

      Great song.

      • Feisty

        Thanks!! Hello friend!!

    • apogee2perogee

So I’m sailing for tomorrow my dreams are a dyin’
And my love is an anchor tied to you tied with a silver chain
I have my ship and all her flags are a’ flyin’
She is all that I have left and music is her name

      • Feisty

Geez are we doing karoke? Fantastic, I am singing along with you!!

        • apogee2perogee

There are some lyrics that are beautiful poetry and evocative of feelings and times gone by. That one is one for me….

          • Feisty

I so agree, when it came on my itunes, I just stopped and listened reveling in it’s beauty again, Of course those guys harmonies make it even more fascinating.

          • apogee2perogee

Some one had also posted ‘Our House’ here lately, and that one is special to me too. The soaring harmonies of CSN&Y always appealed to me.

    • phoebequeen

Hey Feisty, you found us. Hope doggie is doing well.

      • Feisty

Heya phoebe!! She is doing great! She is a very loving dog!! Tons of energy and very happy to be here with us! She settled right in. Bit of a power struggle but that is dissapating. How are you?

        • phoebequeen

Good. Waiting for hubby and son to get home from skiing. Had house to self. Quite, too quite. At least the dog is here for me to yell at, like when he brings in frozen poo, a poopsicle if you will, and then drops it on the rug.

          • Feisty

Love those doggie charms!! Our beautiful border collie loves nothing more than rolling in whatever nasty stuff she can find.

    • JasmineStarlight

Great one Fiesty… nice listening on the trails.

Think about how many times I have fallen
Spirits are using me, larger voices are callin
What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten…
      Who knows love can endure….

Here’s one for the House of C :)

Hello Ms Starlight!! This is a wonderful choice.

  • Canukistani

And one more … Gordon Lightfoot – Canadian Railroad Trilogy

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGiYI3ercf8

    • apogee2perogee

Gordon is going to be in Columbia on March 28. I need to order my tickets, thanks for the reminder !

      • JP boi

I hope you get to go. I’ve not ever seen them in concert but do recall the great music.

        • apogee2perogee

I had the date wrong, but already had agreement from my partner to go. There were more seats already gone than I expected….but just got them.

          • JP boi

You just got the tkts?! Amazing. I haven’t been to a concert in quite a while. But I guess if I could name three concerts at the top of my head that stand out that would be, Fleetwood Mac in 75, David Bowie in 78, 2nd row in the middle from the stage and lets see, sooo many, and….Van Halen, 78 at the Whisky club on Sunset on New Years eve. After the Bowie concert, along with some friends, we went to theRainbow Bar and Grill and as it turned out, so did David Bowie. He joined us at our table after he ate. Perfect ending for a pretty awesome day.

          • geezer 56

Oh my heavens, you’re from L.A. Me too! Went to the Whisky and the Rainbow many times. So cool that you met David Bowie!

          • JP boi

Those were my stomping grounds in 76 to 80. I lived in Santa Monica. I lived in Sacramento from 89 to 2002. Now I’m living in the Mobile area near the Gulf of Mexico. My husband works at the ship yard and he brought me here after we were married in New Orleans, 11 yrs now.

          • geezer 56

I lived in L.A. (Westchester and Redondo Beach) until ’99, when we moved to a little town east of Seattle. Worked in Santa Monica for the ten years before that. You got married in New Orleans! That sounds nice. I went to the French Quarter festival once and had so much fun I needed a week to recover. ;)

          • JP boi

Oh I forgot to mention I lived in San Diego for two yrs as well.I love and really miss living in California.Truth be told, I’d move to Washington State in a minute if I had the opportunity. I’m all for the legalization of pot. I love New Orleans. We live 2 hrs from there. I’m particularly fond of the French Market and Cafe DuMonde.

          • geezer 56

Been there, got the powdered sugar all over me! New Orleans is SO cool. I’d love to go back sometime. I once looked into it, though, and since there don’t seem to be any direct flights from Seattle, I’d have to get up at about 4:30 in the morning in order to check into a hotel at maybe 10 p.m.! Getting too old for that kind of thing now.

I still have some family in S. California, but I have to admit I’d soured on L.A. by the time I left. I’m more of a country girl at heart, anyway, so I’m really happy to be where I am now. :)

          • JP boi

I know what you mean. I moved and traveled around a bit when I was younger. Life has been good as far as work goes for my husband. We are pretty settled down, and buying a home, so I see myself probably living out the rest of our years here in the south.

          • apogee2perogee

Music is an obsession with me and I still see lots of concerts. Small venues, local acts, all the way to the other extreme. I love the ‘Memphis in May’ music festival, it is very eclectic. We have a good festival here “Roots ‘n’ Blues ‘n’ BBQ” Some of my favorite memories include the Grateful Dead from the second row in St. Louis, Emerson Lake & Palmer with John Kay of Steppenwolf opening, and more recently Calexico in Columbia MO.

          • JP boi

I grew up listening to those bands as well. I was born in Galveston, hence my “boi” for born on Island. We use to drive to Houston to go to concerts, and I’ve been to many. But it’s been a while.

          • apogee2perogee

I live a short distance from Columbia and travel for a show or festival two or three times a year. Most of the shows I see are in the area. Columbia would be Missouri’s closest rival to Austin. It’s a liberal enclave, has a music scene, and multiple universities/colleges. My kind of place…..

          • JP boi

It sounds wonderful! I’ve had my fair share of adventures in Austin back when Shake Russell played at the local clubs then.

  • JP boi

    Hello everyone!!

    • Canukistani

      Evenin’!

      • JP boi

Unfortunately I’ve never been to Canada. Hopefully someday soon I will.

        • Canukistani

Unless you’re used to ice and snow make sure you come in summer! It gets a little brisk.

    • nancy/still hopeful

welcome to the party!! can I grab you a beer?

      • JP boi

Why thanks Nancy. And some of those nice chips too please. And Kaya would like a treat as well. ;) Nice place btw!!

        • nancy/still hopeful

lol…right this way-the dogs and cats are all playing over here-treats galore for them!!!

    • JasmineStarlight

Hiya JP…join in….sing us a song….or howl one. What kind of dog is that?

    • Ricki Urban

Hi, JP! Nice to see you here! :D

      • JP boi

Thanks. Ya know I’m really happy to have found you all here, old pals from HP and new ones. Everyone is well behaved. When I left HP I didn’t know where to find everyone. I was over at CNN and I do not mean to come across as a cry baby…but there are a lot of really cruel people over there. Now I’m surrounded by nice folk and so much politeness and just a little bit of naughtiness..lol. It works really well for me.

        • geezer 56

Ooh, CNN is a snake pit! So glad you found us!

          • JP boi

            Thanks Geezer! Me too!!

          • Canukistani

CNN? Ick! You need a hazmat suit to go there. I’m happy you found us too!

        • apogee2perogee

IMHO, there are places to post and places to simply read. CNN would be an example of the latter….

        • nancy/still hopeful

ugly, like I have never ever seen…unending and relentless…

          • JP boi

Agreed! I’m all for right to free speech, but prefer a more civilized crowd.

          • nancy/still hopeful

such a fuzzy line between free speech and hate speech…they don’t seem to know the difference there!!

          • JP boi

            Agreed.

        • Gin1234

I can down rate you if you’re missing CNN. That might help!

          • JP boi

            Noooo…please. I’m not particularly missing cnn…

          • Gin1234

I dunno why. The people are so warm…….

          • JP boi

Lol! Warm wouldn’t be my exact choice.

          • Gin1234

Well, if you set them on fire and block the exit…….

          • JP boi

The mods, cnn or the haters? How about all of them! The haters are like the biters on the Walking Dead.

    • phoebequeen

      Evening Jp. Nice doggie.

          • Ricki Urban

          • nancy/still hopeful

            ok then Ricki, jk!!!

          • Ricki Urban

            Ha!

          • JasmineStarlight

He’ll have pot wafting through the air in no time….you’ll need it to listen to his music—and bad attitude.

          • Ricki Urban

            Isn’t that the truth!

          • nancy/still hopeful

            ;-P

        • phoebequeen

    • Ricki Urban

      Great! :D

  • geezer 56

OK, is it just me, or is this truly a lot less glitchy here?

    • nancy/still hopeful

it’s fact geezer…the threads always slow down when they get that many posts!
so nice to free flow on here!!

      • geezer 56

It was getting a bit frustrating.

        • nancy/still hopeful

was so…this is so much nicer!

      • OneOtherPerson

But you know us Amerikins. We’ll trash the place, leave 15,000 comments laying around, and go on to the next place.

I heard talk of it last night, but when I came this morning nobody was here, so I just went back home.

          • Ricki Urban

I saw that!! Did you take your luggage with you?!

          • Gin1234

No. I put it just any where like Canuk said to, and someone stole it.

          • Canukistani

            Musta had beer in it.

          • Ricki Urban

            loiz!

          • OneOtherPerson

in that case, someone just borrowed it. The beer will show up again once it makes it’s rounds, so to speak.

          • Gin1234

You were the only one here.

          • Canukistani

Hey Nancy and Canuk. What is the Canadian etiquette for upvoting? Seems ultra polite to me, and therefor very Canadian. . .

    • Canukistani

Upvoting is always encouraged. You should smile when you do it too.

      • Ricki Urban

        :D :D :D

      • Feisty

Always do!! I’ll lift out my pinkie since I am in such a socialist country.

        • Canukistani

          Oh, you’ll do well here!

    • nancy/still hopeful

      • geezer 56

Don’t suppose you have any Full Sail IPA–?

        • Canukistani

Uhh, I didn’t see any in the basement. I wasn’t expecting company. Sorry.

          • geezer 56

            Pizza? I’ll buy!

          • Canukistani

Can we have bacon on it?

          • geezer 56

That’s just weird. But OK, as long as it’s Canadian bacon.

          • Canukistani

            In that case, I’m in!

          • Toastman

            Canadian bacon and spinach, tasty.

          • geezer 56

I’m a traditionalist when it comes to pizza–don’t even think about handing me some California Pizza Kitchen concoction with barbecue chicken, for instance–but good grief, that actually sounds kinda good!

          • Toastman

The first time, and only time, I went into a California Pizza I looked at the menu and said “this ain’t pizza”. I have never been back.

          • nancy/still hopeful

            awe-you are such a doll!!!

        • Richard M

          What is that? Root Beer?

          • geezer 56

Ooh, you don’t even know what you’re missing. ;)

      • nancy/still hopeful

sounds great…I live in Gimli-they distill Crown Royal Rye right in my neighbourhood-I have a few bottles I’ll bring over!

        • Canukistani

          Excellent! I’ll get some glasses.

    • geezer 56

Seriously. Once again, while he was at the store my husband did NOT read my mind (that I decided I need a few drinks). All we have is a couple itsy bitsy Coronitas, and they are NOT going to do the job tonight. I may actually have to venture out myself.

      • nancy/still hopeful

lol, I was going to suggest you call the store and get them to give him a message…sigh, I don’t like having to go out when I am in the house for the evening!!

        • geezer 56

Oh God, that would be priceless. Over the PA: “Mr. Geezer? Mr. Geezer? There’s an emergency. Your wife needs beer! Preferably Full Sail IPA!”

I discovered them on Prairie Home Companion. You can tell Garrison Keillor loves them by the number of times they have been on. I adore them.

Hi, friends. I fell asleep or a bit without intending to. Nice place here. Have my passport right here.

    • Canukistani

Hey, friends are welcome! No passport necessary. Grab a beer and get comfy!

      • Cynthia W.

Thanks, Canuk. You’re the perfect host.

    • nancy/still hopeful

hey!!! great to see you made it!!!

      • Cynthia W.

Hi, Nancy. Figure skating coming on soon–free dance. Did you see it?

        • nancy/still hopeful

yes-they were beautiful!!!! congrats on that well deserved win!!! I was teared up through their skate!!! you moved up nicely in the medal standings!!!

          • Cynthia W.

Oh, thanks. They’re trying to figure out what’s been happening with the speed skaters. Complete washout so far.

          • nancy/still hopeful

very interesting how some events have turned up nothing for the countries that usually take them all…wild results in many of them!

          • Cynthia W.

Yes. Norway didn’t medal on one of the cross country events, and the top spot went to their rivals, Sweden.

          • nancy/still hopeful

and on it goes…great to see things shaken up actuallyI get really excited when I see countries not ever medaling, getting them!!

          • Cynthia W.

I feel the same way. The US has had so many of them already that I’m not as excited anymore.

          • nancy/still hopeful

they are doing well in some areas and then get wiped out in others…just like us!!! really interesting to watch this round of games-hard to predict how it will end up!

          • Cynthia W.

Just watched the US Japanese American ice dancers–they were really adorable. Waiting for the big guns–the US and Canadian champs to come on.

          • nancy/still hopeful

saw it earlier today…you will enjoy it!

  • Gin1234

Went out for some air and got mugged. Some Canadian with a ski mask tapped me on the shoulder and asked for my money.

    • nancy/still hopeful

      lmao…we don’t wear ski masks-WE ARE CANADIAN!!!!
people that visit us wear them cause it’s so damn cold!!!

      • Gin1234

OH no no no……This one said, “Can I please have your money. eh?!!”. He was a Canadian alright.

        • Canukistani

I’ll get some of my deputies on it. We’ll get to the bottom of it, eh. In the meantime, I’m buyin’.

          • Gin1234

You want to buy my money?

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

I’m skeptical that it was a real Canadian. They have their own money. Doesn’t look anything like ours.

          • Gin1234

NO problem, they can exchange it easily. It’s worth waaaay more than theirs.

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

9 cents is hardly worth the trouble.

          • Canukistani

Naw, your money’s no good here. I’m buyin’ the beer. That’s a lot more important here, eh. Anything else, our commie government will take care of for you.

          • Gin1234

Okay. I want Rolling Rock please. They make it in Pittsburgh.

          • Canukistani

Uh, oh. That’ll take a cross-border deal. I hope it doesn’t have to get through your Congress. If it does you’re outta luck eh.

          • Gin1234

You’re not being very accommodating, considering the loss of all my money and luggage, and now you won’t get me the beer I want. Sniff….

          • Cynthia W.

Shhhh!!! People will know you’re from the US.

          • Gin1234

I’m a patriot. Home of the brave. Land of the free.

          • Canukistani

Hey, I’m being very accommodating. I can’t fix your Congress though. Even you guys can’t do that and I’m just a dumb Canuck.

          • Gin1234

            You got a point there!

          • Canukistani

If it could be fixed with please and sorry, I’d be happy to do that!

          • Gin1234

I don’t speak any foreign languages, and I don’t recognize those words.

          • Canukistani

Oh, you must be one of those Ugly Americans I’ve heard about somewhere. I thought that was a myth. Sorry.

          • nancy/still hopeful

            lmao…of all people…who’d a thunk it!

          • Canukistani

Not me, but like I said, I’m just a dumb Canuck, eh.

          • nancy/still hopeful

            that throws a great party!!

          • Gin1234

That phrase is referring to North Americans which includes Canadians, who are also Americans..eh. Otherwise, it would say Ugly UnitedStatesians.

          • Canukistani

Ok, we’re ugly too, but we’re polite about it.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

My husband and I were living in London during the late seventies/early eighties. He was at a party talking to a friend when a woman, a complete stranger, came up to him and said “I can tell by your accent that you are an American. I hate Americans because they are so rude”. He just laughed at her and replied…”I’ve never known one to walk up to a stranger and say: I hate you! Now that is rude, madam”. Every country’s got ‘em.

          • Canukistani

Very true. There are nasty people wherever you go. There are great ones too though and that’s the reward for putting up with the rude ones.

          • nancy/still hopeful

lmao…shhhh we will have all the damn liberals here wanting all the free stuff!!!!

        • AskandTell

          LOL…too funny.

Hi all…not sure if I’m allowed in the new clubhouse but I’ll be rude and just climb on in. Hope all have had a nice day. Just a quick Hi and I’ll probably have to leave…am not long for sitting up tonight. Is this house working with fewer problems for all than the Agora?

    • FaunaAndFlora

      Welcome!

      • thinkingwomanmillstone

        thank you. Doing well?

        • FaunaAndFlora

          Can’t complain!

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

Can I have your complaining time…if you are not going to use it. I do have to put up with Christie for my governor, after all. I should get extra.

          • JP boi

Has he fessed up to being a bad Governor yet?

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

It will never happen…at best he’ll go from arrogant bully to arrogant victim.

          • apogee2perogee

It’s their typical arc of failure….

          • JP boi

That I wouldn’t doubt. So, he gets to finish out his term? He should resign.

          • FaunaAndFlora

Oh lordy, yes you may have my complaining time. I thought we had it bad here in Michigan with Rick Snyder, but you poor folks in Jersey have it worse.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

Thanks a lot…I’ll save it for when he gets off scot free.

          • FaunaAndFlora

I’ll add some complaining of my own when that happens.

    • Canukistani

You’re welcome indeed! Grab a beer!

      • thinkingwomanmillstone

If it’s cold, I’ll hold it against my head…it aches.

        • Canukistani

Sorry to hear that. It seems that Agora was glitchy again today so I invited everyone on over here. It does seem to work a lot better. There were less than 200 comments when we started so I think that’s what the problem was. Agora was at about 15K.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

As long as it’s not colder here than in NJ, I’ll be happy to stick around. More snow tonight.

          • Canukistani

Yeah, you folks seem to have gotten some of our share this year. Sorry about that. I think I’m on the northern edge of that same storm. Snow here too tomorrow.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

It’s supposed to warm though so this last little bit shouldn’t last. It’s the couple feet on the ground and roofs that is still the problem. I visited my daughter apt this afternoon and apparently all the water run off from the roof hits her front steps…there was at least a 3 inch sheet of ice all over her front steps and what little bit of the side walk the maintenance had cleared was covered in ice as well. She has complained but to no avail so far. I told her to put it in writing and sign it with Esquire at the end of her name and attorney at law underneath. It might get some action.

          • Canukistani

I don’t know if that’s normal for you, but that melt-freeze cycle is quite normal here a little later in the winter. It’s pretty nasty. I have a bag of road salt at the ready for my driveway when that starts. Otherwise it’d be a skating rink.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

We have several hundred pounds in the garage…if I’d known she was having problems I would have brought some…but with the rent they charge, they should be out salting themselves. Her fiancé was going to stop and pick some up on the way home. She has sever rheumatoid arthritis so spreading it herself is not good and I am afraid she will fall unless they do something. She has an end unit and the slope of the roof must just drip everything on her cement steps. I grew up in North Dakota so I am used to it…she just doesn’t have room in her apt for the proper tools and storing the stuff…she can’t leave anything outside, it will be stolen. A few more weeks and it should all be history. It’s just ridiculous though what little the manager has done to get the snow out of the way for the cars and residents. There’s just nowhere to walk and there’s a four foot wall of snow right in front of her apt if she makes it down the steps all right.

          • Canukistani

It’s a very dangerous situation. I agree, it seems like the manager is incredibly lazy! I would have thought that even if he (or she) didn’t care about the people he’d be worried about lawsuits.

          • Cynthia W.

You sure she doesn’t live in my complex? Rent goes up, maintenance goes down.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

It does sound the same doesn’t it.

          • Cynthia W.

That’s how I broke my wrist. Still need another surgery on it because it’s crooked and weak. Waiting for the money so that I can have it done–it’s on the landlord !!

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

You would think that if they won’t do it because it’s the correct thing to do, they’d do it because it is the least expensive thing to do. Lawsuits are expensive.

          • Cynthia W.

I’m waiting 5 years so far. I told some people earlier that the entire living room ceiling fell on top of me as well. Living here is an adventure.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

Not one that you are enjoying, though. Sounds like you’ve had a difficult time of it.

          • Cynthia W.

Sometimes I just have to laugh about it all. Maybe I’ll write a book about it. I already have a title–”Lucky Libra”.

          • tracey marie

You are not a canadian like most on here? They have single payer

          • Cynthia W.

No I’m not Canadian. If I were, I probably wouldn’t have a crooked wrist.

          • JP boi

I hope they get it cleaned up soon. I’ve seen snow when I lived in Northern California, but never lived in a city where I ever had to shovel snow, so I can only imagine what the hardships will bring.

          • Cynthia W.

Something for us to look forward to–again !!

Why, thank you…that cheered me up. Not feeling well at all tonight ..so I might not stay too long.

    • Cynthia W.

      Hi–like your new clothes

      • thinkingwomanmillstone

My ladies were complaining that I liked the grand kittens better and were threatening to get back at me. I take cat threats very seriously. The one in front is Linda (for Linda Ronstadt) and the back one is her sister Adele. Almost all of our pets have been named for singers. They appreciate your compliment as they are sitting on the back of the couch reading over my shoulders.

        • Cynthia W.

I’m glad you’ve learned to listen. Felines can be brutal when ignored.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

            Siamese are especially devious.

          • JP boi

And mouthy as well..lol. I have 4 Siamese cats, one is 17.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

They are not a “starter” cat for people who have never had a cat before. I got my first Siamese when I was 10 years old…so I’ve had them for 50 years. I have had many adopted kittens and cats but I always have had at least one Siamese. I admit I am addicted. When my last one before these died at 18 (fortunately they tend to be long lived) and I was ready for a kitten, I went out to pick up my kitten ( singular) and came home with these two sisters. They have an opinion on everything and are not a bit shy about sharing it with me…over and over again. I have had to downsize my home “herd”. I used to have 3 dogs and 3 cats and now just have my 2 kitties but they’re great. I didn’t get rid of any pets…just had to admit that I couldn’t keep replacing them after they were gone.

          • Ricki Urban

I have 4, too!! They run the household here! lolz! That”s great you have a 17 y/o! My oldest is 10.

          • JP boi

They are very headstrong. My 17 yr olds name is baby. She stays always on my lap and they all sleep with us.

          • JP boi

I can vouch for the ones that allow us to live with them, ignoring is never a good option. Although cats are really good at ignoring us as well.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

But we are not of the same class…so of course we deserve to be ignored.

          • JP boi

            Perfect answer!

It changes your avatar on all disqus sites and some others. I find it more reliable and user friendly than using the disqus settings way…I am fairly inept on my new computer as it is an iMac. It’s free and it stores the pics you have used so it is easy to switch back to them. There is a delay from when you change it until it shows up in your comments. I changed mine this morning and it took maybe a half an hour for it to show up. Anyway, I thought I’d tell your what works for me…I don’t know if it’s of any use but it might help.

ahhh yes the memories! that’s the great thing about all the music that’s getting posted isn’t it!
I saw them in Calgary, loved the concert-very down to earth!

    • AskandTell

      Very nice.

I love that, Canuk. Just DL’d a copy of that song and will sample the album later. Truly wonderful!

      • Canukistani

Yeah, I enjoy them too. I just discovered them by accident awhile back when they played on a CBC radio show called The Vinyl Cafe that I listen to sometimes.

        • apogee2perogee

That must be a fabulous show. I just looked it up. Will have to give it a go.

          • Canukistani

I think that Stuart McClean is a national treasure. His stories are mesmerizing. There are free podcasts of a lot of the shows on iTunes. I’d recommend grabbing a few. The Christmas turkey show, if it’s still available is particularly funny, but they’re all good.

          • apogee2perogee

I think the ‘Lost and Found Sound’ with Dr. Luke Crampton webcasts are worth a listen. His whole format is about finding the lost gems.

what a pretty voice she has…new for me-like it! thanks!

      • Canukistani

Never would have heard of them except for Stuart.

      • Sarah Sahasbeen

        Are you sure you’re Canadian?

        • nancy/still hopeful

I am so embarrassed at my ignorance!!! I was an alcoholic for 30 years…I have some pretty good gaps and music is one of them as I was mostly loaded when listening to it! sigh, playing catch up now!!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

No need to be embarrassed. I was just kidding.

          • nancy/still hopeful

not really that embarrassed but wow-there is so much that I have missed or forgotten, it’s great to see it posted and some times have a memory jogged!

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

Wait till you get to be my age. There are days I don’t remember much.

          • Canukistani

Hmm. I musta been your age for awhile in the ’60′s then :-)

          • Sarah Sahasbeen

You’d have to be well over 100 now. Kind of doubt it.

          • Canukistani

Feels like it some days. For a minute there I thought I had an explanation for the memory loss thing, but I guess not.

          • nancy/still hopeful

ha…wild how that happens, some days I totally lose words and start gesturing to make sense of myself…not working so well!

    • Cougar90210

apogee2perogee posted a nice Bruce Cockburn song earlier. Here’s kind of a classic from Bruce.

Bruce Cockburn – “Wondering Where the Lions Are”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6Lpx6JIMmk

    • Canukistani

A good choice! I was going to post an older one, but that one’ll certainly do it too!

      • Cougar90210

I’ve always like it a lot.

    • nancy/still hopeful

ahhh thanks Cougar!!! he’s great…good to see you here-hope you are feeling better after the nasty time you’ve been having!

      • Cougar90210

MUCH improved, Nancy. Thanks for asking. I actually think I’m becoming a human being again.

        • nancy/still hopeful

I am so happy to hear that-it’s awful being sick! keep up the good work!!! ;-)

          • Cougar90210

            Will do!

    • apogee2perogee

I was originally looking for ‘Dancing in the Dragon’s Jaws’, but alas, it isn’t on youtube. That whole album is wonderfully recorded (clarity and mix) and wonderfully performed.

      • Cougar90210

That’s the thing about posting things that are on youtube. Sometimes the really good stuff you want to share with people isn’t available. Oh, well, I’m of the opinion that a sampling might encourage anyone who’s serious about it to do a little further research. So, it’s still a good thing.

        • Canukistani

I agree. I’ve found quite a few goodies that way.

        • apogee2perogee

It is amazing to me that the three songs of his we’ve mentioned here are on the same album and yet he just isn’t as well known as that talent warrants.

          • Cougar90210

It’s hard to figure. I don’t really understand how songs get posted up on youtube anyway. Some are obviously put up by the artists or their agents, but those that are done by individuals I don’t have a clue how they get there … and some are of really good audio quality.

          • Cynthia W.

YouTube has an uploader. Then there’s free programs that help you make a video.

          • Cougar90210

Ah ha! But don’t you have to get permission from the artist or something? I doubt I’d ever try to do it, but then again, I do get bored some days.

          • Cynthia W.

Many people upload concerts they have filmed themselves. I have friends that have their own band, and of course they have their own songs filmed and then upload them. Some artists will make a fuss over concert footage, while others never complain. Jackson Browne and Neil Young are YouTube friendly

          • Cougar90210

Thanks. I feel like I’m getting educated a wee bit on all this.

          • Cynthia W.

          :( It’s been dreadful!! Makes me thankful to live where I do. Hope you’re on the mend?! {{{hugs}}}

          • Cougar90210

Absolutely on the mend – walked three miles today (be jogging it soon). Thanks so much for the warm wishes.

          • Ricki Urban

            Fabulous news!! :D

Ride a bike. Save your knees!

          • Cougar90210

You have a definite point there. I used to ride all the time, but it got a little dangerous out on the two lane roads around here – it only takes one idiot to ruin a perfectly good day …. and life. But biking is definitely a good thing. I totally agree with you on that.

  • JP boi

Any Fleetwood Mac fans here? I just heard recently the best news ever!! Christine McVie is getting back together with them!! I’ve seen them several times and would love to see them again.

    • Canukistani

I’ve enjoyed some of their work. It would be good to see them together again!

      • JP boi

It would indeed. I love that everyone here shares music!! I love it!!

    • AskandTell

I met them back stage after a concert and had my pic taken. Got a chance to speak with Stevie Nicks. I’m 5’8″ and felt like a giant next to her.

      • JP boi

I got to meet Stevie Nicks after a concert in Houston yrs ago. Her band manager invited a friend and I to Stevie’ s hotel suite. We were incredibly lucky to have been invited and also really excited! She is very much down to earth and as sweet as can be. There were very few people there and she sat with us the whole night till really early hrs. I have photos as well.

Which Presidents Coat of Arms includes a spear in his Dexter hand, and a coiled line in his Sinister hand?

    • Canukistani

Beats me. Got a question about Canadian bacon?

      • nancy/still hopeful

        lmao…

      • Richard M

        Why is it round?

        • Canukistani

That’s mandated by our pinko government so that nobody cuts themselves on a sharp corner. They try to take care of us whether we want them to or not.

          • Richard M

So it’s made with cookie cutters?

          • Canukistani

I think so. I suspect they’re made in China though.

        • Ricki Urban

In the UK it isn’t tho. Looks like a strip of bacon only wider and meatier!

    • thinkingwomanmillstone

Don’t know…President Hillary Rodham Clinton? She could use the coiled line to keep Bill on a short leash and the spear to stab him if he strays.

    • Cynthia W.

      Grover Cleveland?

      • Richard M

No. I’m sorry. You forgot to phrase it in the form of a question. The correct response would have been “Who is Grover Cleveland”.

Presidential trivia for six hundred, Alex.

  • apogee2perogee

This is another musician, although not Canadian, that I think gets too little attention, although his catalog is getting older now. I was looking for ‘Darker Kind of Blue’, but it isn’t on youtube. Highly recommend that one. But here is a nice instrumental piece that will give you an idea of how gifted this man is on acoustic guitar.

    Brooks Williams http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SbrpR9W0pI

    • Canukistani

      I like it!

    • AskandTell

He’s excellent…I think I’ve seen him on PBS featuring the best of American acoustic guitar players.

      • apogee2perogee

He has several outlets for teaching guitar, so i suspect your memory is correct.

    • Canukistani

      Yup. They are indeedy!

    • JP boi

Oh yeah…saw them in concert! I loved them. This is what I really remember about BTO….driving in the car, heading for a night out on the town with a car full of friends and we’re all singing..B..bb…bbaby…you aint seen nuthin yet!

      • Cougar90210

I’m sure more than a few of us have let it rip on that song.

    • apogee2perogee

I remember playing these guys on the 8 track in my first car, and you may already know this, but Bachman was in The Guess Who along with Burton Cummings.

I’m jealous. I’ve always loved his voice.

        • apogee2perogee

Have you ever heard the guitarist Tony Rice? He has a cd of Gordon Lightfoot covers that is very good, although he doesn’t have that quality of voice.

          • Cougar90210

Yes, I’m familiar with Tony Rice. I’ll check out that album. Thanks.

        • apogee2perogee

well, how kind is he for doing that-we had a good time and will have to throw more parties!
thanks for the message, I am heading back to bed!

        • Richard M

Yes. It was a kind offer. Instead he kept us up until 06:00 with stories of his uncle Horatio surviving in the jungle during WWI. Utter fafadoodle it was!…..Then he absconded, leaving the mess for the morning crew.

  • Cougar90210

Well, I know that Nanci Griffith was born in Texas, and John Prine was born in Illinois, but I’ll bet they’ve both been to Canada some time or another, so here you go. My good night song:

G’nite Fauna, hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow.

  • gmb007

Canuk said the Canadians were throwing a party here? : )

    • Ricki Urban

Hi, gmb! Great to see you here! Seems it’s winding down a bit – Canuk and Nancy have headed out, as well as a few others. :(

      • gmb007

Hi, Ricki! Guess it’s time for the night owls to take over? lol

I just got home from work a little while ago and looks like Agora’s having some freezing/loading problems?

        • Ricki Urban

Indeed!! Time for us to take over! lolz!

Apparently with so many comments, a lot of people were having issues, so Canuk suggested we all come over to their House!! Especially with only 200 comments since the end of January and looks we added more than 650 in one evening!! lolz!! How’s things your way? Hope work was good?!

          • gmb007

I just love Canuk. Such a sweetheart!

Wow, we really bumped up the Canadian numbers! We certainly can put the miles on a thread in lightning-fast 0 to 60! lol

          • Ricki Urban

Don’t we just!! At this rate this page would only be good for a couple of more weeks! lolz!

          • gmb007

With all the tasty beer and margaritas, it might be a few days!

          • Ricki Urban

lolz!! btw, there’s still some beer left! I think I have the keys to the liquor cabinet, too! :D

          • gmb007

            Uh-oh…LOL :)

          • Ricki Urban

Sorry, was just over checking the other threads and no activity! Where’s Magna Dave, Taps, etc. I wonder?!

          • apogee2perogee

Dave typically shows up about an hour from now, but has been earlier in recent days…..

          • Ricki Urban

There you are! :) I’m way early tonight as I don’t usually drop in until the wee hours meself! Glad I didn’t miss this tho – it’s been great fun!

          • apogee2perogee

I’ve been popping in and out since mid-afternoon.

          • gmb007

I think Dave usually comes on really late – he should be showing up in the next hour or two? And Dave and Taps do seem to something of a matched set, don’t they? LOL They’re both too much fun.

          • Ricki Urban

            Indeed, gmb!! :D

          • Richard M

That was the typical pace at the old uni-pages. About 2000 posts a day. So a thread was good for two weeks. Three if they really pushed the limit to 23,000 comments, like we did at least once.

          • Ricki Urban

True, Richard. But with people having issues with 15K on a thread, does ET recognize this and add a new one automatically or do people need to contact them?

          • Richard M

From what I’ve seen, ET will do it eventually, but it will likely happen sooner if we ask them.

          • Ricki Urban

Well I’m assuming they’ll notice that the commenting on this thread tripled in one evening!

          • Richard M

I expect they will too. They might let us stay here a while, since it’s got room for 14 thousand comments or so.

I’m not going to worry until all four forums hit 15,000.

          • Cynthia W.

Hi there. I agree that Canuk is a sweetheart. There’s a lot of really nice people here, which makes hanging out much nicer.

          • gmb007

Hi, Cynthia! Have you defrosted yet? Or at least found your car? :)

          • Cynthia W.

We’re getting more snow in the early AM. Then it’s supposed to get a bit warmer. Maybe I can find my car then, shovel it out and get it started before my AAA expires.

          • Ricki Urban

Oh noes, Cyn!!! Your car is buried in the snow?! :(

          • Cynthia W.

Yes. I was sick during the last big snow, so I didn’t bother with the car. Since everything is frozen, and it won’t start, I’ll wait until it thaws a little and then try to get AAA to start it.

          • Ricki Urban

            I do remember you saying that you’d been sick. :( omg! it really tugs at my heartstrings to hear you all going thru all of this horrendous weather – seriously! It just seems there’s no end in sight for any of you! It’s hard for me to imagine what you’re really going thru and then you post this about your car!!! I pray it starts for you, Cyn!! {{{{hugs}}}

          • Cynthia W.

Thanks, Ricki. hope you’re feeling better as well. The people here are so important when you start feeling down. This place is therapeutic.

          • Ricki Urban

Isn’t that the truth! And I am, thanks. I, too, found that out the other day when I was in the state of shock i was in. Everyone was so warm and embracing while i was having my meltdown. It’s a wonderful community and it’s really good to know that we’re all looking out for each other!! {{hugs}} btw, do we know what happened to Kon?

          • Cynthia W.

He left a while back because he said that someone changed his comment, and he was angry. I’ve read recently that he’s considering returning here. This is second hand knowledge on my part.

          • Ricki Urban

Oh, thanks. I’d been thinking that perhaps he was sick or something. How would someone change someone’s comment – you mean he thought this site did?

          • Cynthia W.

That’s the impression I’ve gotten from those who have talked to him. I think Geezer and Feisty know more details. I don’t know if they have ever changed things here. The moderators have been so good to us, that I always give them the benefit of the doubt. I doubt there’s a better place to call home.

          • Ricki Urban

            Agree wholeheartedly! :)

          • Richard M

He is posting at other Disqus sites. Find someone like RG that has followed him, and access his profile…..We should all send him “Kon come home” messages!

          • TapestryMood

kon knows he will be welcomed back with open arms….he has talked with several of us..has contacted me several times today..so damn funny and impudent;-)

He is still our kon..implied he may be lurking..lol…if/when he comes back it will be in his own time and inimitable way…he is doing fine;-)

          • Richard M

I saw him at ABC (I think).

          • TapestryMood

He’s been at Raw Story a lot…and Mother Jones, too.

          • Ricki Urban

Great idea, Richard!! I have him on mine too. I’ll do that!

          • gmb007

            Poor Cynthia! LOL

Hope you’re totally stocked up on all supplies?! :)

          • Cynthia W.

Thanks to daughter #1, I’m well supplied (except for ice cream).

          • gmb007

It’s freezing outside and you have no ice cream! The Cosmos has a wicked sense of humor!

I LOVE ice cream, too! What are your favorite flavors?

          • Cynthia W.

I don’t like the ones that have “too much” in them, like cookie dough, etc., but I love coffee, vanilla fudge swirl, black cherry (Turkey Hill brand), and chocolate peanut butter swirl. I have to bring out 3 little bowls for a tsp. each for the kitties. As you can tell, they’re spoiled. I’m probably the only one who eats ice cream while using a heating pad for warmth.

          • Ricki Urban

lolz!! I can just envision you with your heating pad eating ice cream!! I’ve had one kitteh who adored ice cream to the point she would sit in front of the fridge! She lived til she was 19 y/o! I miss her to this day! We have similar tastes in ice cream!

          • Cynthia W.

This is the second set of cats I have. I had four previously who all lived long lives except for the only boy kitty, who died at age 2 from a congenital heart defect. He was a cat that truly lived life, and left a very big impact from his short life. I was not going to get any more cats after they were all gone, but my mother convinced me that I was starting to act like a zombie without cats. I adopted one at the shelter, and my grandkids found the next two in the street and brought them to me, knowing that I could not turn them away.

          • Ricki Urban

You sound like me, Cyn!! I can’t live without kittehs – i’ve never been without at least one in my whole life. I’ve done a fair bit of volunteering at our shelter here. And, along with several neighbors on my street, was feeding a feral/stray colony. It was great that we were able to do it together as neighbors and get them all spayed/neutered thru a program we have here in town – it took trapping them all. And then we all fed those who gravitated to our houses. I didn’t mean to get off on that tangent. But we then had a new person move in and amazingly they all started disappearing – those that had been living here for years!!! this was last year and if you think i was bad on the other day – I was a total basket case back then. I couldn’t prove it, but I strongly believe he was poisoning them – it was too horrible. He finally moved and we are all at peace again – but our hearts ache for those we loved and lost. :(

          • Cynthia W.

Wow. That had to be awful. Most people here feed the strays, plus the squirrels, skunks, and birds. There’s a small orange tabby I worry about, but she is so feral that she wouldn’t go inside anyone’s house. A boy in the neighborhood made a secret opening into the basement, and feeds her daily. Still, from living outdoors, she has no teeth, her fur is disheveled, and she breaks my heart. I wish she would have allowed this boy to take her in.

          • Ricki Urban

            It really was!! :( But I’ve come to the realization, we can only do so much. Our hearts are in the right places! And, like you, I would worry about that orange tabby too. {{{{big hugs}}}}

          • Cynthia W.

I have a soft spot for animals–people too, unless I get the wrong vibes from them. I’d love to have a dog as well, but I may move, so I’ll just play with my grand dog until then.

          • gmb007

Where are you thinking of moving, Cynthia?

          • Cynthia W.

Not too far from the area because my family is around here. Daughter #1 is in NJ near me, and daughter #2 is in the boonies of NYS. They are both keeping a lookout for me. I like where I live. We have a park, a courtyard so that we’re not looking onto a street, but the apartments need maintenance. I pay a very high rent, yet the ceilings in the kitchen and bathroom look as if they’re going to fall. Of course, maybe my lawyer will get them to do something about it–I know they wrote the landlord a letter about it. I heard we have a new “in charge” person here, so maybe she will turn out to be more people friendly than the last person.

          • gmb007

I’m so happy you’ve got your two daughters taking good care of you! *HUGS*

          • Cynthia W.

Thanks. I kind of like them.

          • Richard M

Move over by Hey Jude. She’s just across the Delaware.

          • Cynthia W.

I have a cousin right across the Delaware as well.

          • Richard M

Just stay away from Philly or Allentown. Jude’s out in the country. You can get a buggy and an Amish bonnet!

          • Cynthia W.

Oh, I know Philly well. No big cities !!

          • JP boi

            Aww..

          • Richard M

            What flavors did kitteh like?

          • JP boi

I love the smoothies at Smoothie King so much, it doesn’t matter if it’s freezing outside. I’ll put the heater on and the seats have heaters as well for a warm tushie. Lol

          • Cynthia W.

Ahh–an ice cream lover like me.

          • JP boi

I saw you like blk cherry icecream…than I’ll bet you’d like Cherry Garcia as well. That is if you haven’t tried it yet. But I’m kinda like you in that I do not care for a lot of stuff in mine. Haagen Daz is just sinfully good. But I’m all out. :( I think I’ll be sad now…

          • Cynthia W.

I’ll be sad with you. I’ve never tried B&J. The Turkey Hill black cherries are most like fresh ones–they’re halved, and the skin is crunchy, while the ice cream is white. Seems that it’s more natural tasting than others I’ve tried.

          • JP boi

The Cherry Garcia, has lots of cherries and thin pieces of chocolate . Its good good goooood! ;) I’m not familiar with the brand you mentioned, it may not even be sold here. But I’ll look for it. I’m really sorry about your car being buried in snow. I can honestly say that has never happened to me. But I’ve been through lots of hurricanes and a couple of earthquakes over the yrs.

          • Cynthia W.

I will have to try that. The Turkey Hill brand is from PA.

          • JP boi

Thank goodness for your daughter! I hope it gets better soon. And get you some of that Ben and Jerrys Cherry Garcia, really good.

          • Richard M

I thought you had cold or flu? You don’t need any ice cream!

            Women!…..;-}

          • Cynthia W.

I did. Ice cream has secret healing powers.

          • Ricki Urban

Hey, Cyn! Glad to see you’re still here! :D

          • Williemojorisin

            :-)

          • Cynthia W.

Hi–got the message, I see. Welcome.

          • Richard M

            Hi Jimbo.

            Nice to see you here!

          • Williemojorisin

Just got into town bout an hr ago…..nice to be seen.

          • Richard M

When I first went to HP back in eleven, you were one of the first three friends I had there. I was kicking over as many sacred cows as I could find. So that must have amused you.

          • Williemojorisin

            ^5 Bud.

    • Richard M

It’s a crazy Canadian party. Drinking and carousing until the sun comes up!

      • JP boi

Hi Richard…Willjo is the only person person I knew to bring over here. I’m glad he did. I finally caught up with AlleyPanther but still looking out for C. Pirate. And so many more. Do you recall Fran?

        • Richard M

It’s great. Williemojo is an old HP friend of mine too. I told AlleyPanther you’d asked about him. I never knew Chesapeake, though some others here did.

Fran Jamie. Who had an Avatar of cartoon cats with their tails standing up?….I do remember her. She was super knowledgeable about Latin America, though I never asked if she lived there. It would be great to find her and bring her by to visit.

          • JP boi

Yes! Thanks…Fran Jaime with the cat avatar. Maybe you can find her on Facebook, she mentioned she was on FB. Very sweet person. I recall we had discussed a lot about Mexico as well.

          • Richard M

I will see if I can find her.

      • TapestryMood

AP is here a lot..CP talked with me here about 3 weeks ago..was trying to down size his album collections to make more berth space, etc..said he would be gone for a while. I told him U2 might be interested in the albums..and informed U2..so, he might have been in contact with CP….Aheeemm…we civilians know our stuff, too;-)

        • Toastman

I hear LMNOP is coming over tonight ;-)

          • Cynthia W.

            LOL !!

          • TapestryMood

            I want ZZ Top!!

          • Richard M

            Do you know LSMFT?

  • Haruko Haruhara

    Hello, Canuck

    • Ricki Urban

Hi, Haruko. We had quite a party here tonight! Canuk is a great host!

  • Haruko Haruhara

I think this is so cool.

T.J. Oshie is one of the biggest darlings of the Winter Olympics; he single-handedly beat Pavel Datsyuk (a sure-fire Hall of Famer) and Ilya Kovalchuk in a shootout. It went on for about 10 minutes, it was pretty epic.

I didn’t know before, but T.J. Oshie is an Ojibwe. An artist made this painting for him in honour of his heritage …http://que-ink.com/uploads/3/3/5/2/3352095/5167940_orig.png

    • apogee2perogee

      Very cool, Haruko.

  • Haruko Haruhara
  • Haruko Haruhara

I posted this on the dying thread, too ..

Oh, thank god, the Prime Minister of New Zealand is NOT a shape-shifting reptile alien. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/02/17/watch-nz-prime-minister-john-key-asked-to-prove-he-is-not-a-shape-shifting-reptile/

    • Richard M

So you just accept his claim to have visited a doctor and a vet? I don’t know about NZ, but in US a vet cannot treat or examine human patients. So I think that since he lied about seeing a vet, he likely lied about seeing a doctor, too.

I hear a curious resonance when the PM speaks. That is caused by the forked lizard tongue.

      Isn’t it hard to see the baseball with pink hair in your eyes?…..;-}

  • apogee2perogee

One last song, then I’m off to bed. Daniel Lanois ‘Shine’

  • Williemojorisin

I think this is the room that “Gin1234″ sent me to…hello people.

    • Canukistani

Just doing a very quick look in on my way to bed. Hey, any friend of Gin is a friend of ours. Welcome! Please look around and set a spell. I’m sure threre are some friendly people just a bit down the thread.

      • Williemojorisin

Tyvm for the warm welcome , I’ll be around :-)

        • Canukistani

Lookin’ forward to getting to know you. Now I’m off to bed. Hoping to see ya again.

          • JP boi

I enjoyed this day very much with you all. Thank you!! ♡

    • Toastman

Hello. Welcome to our new digs.

      • Williemojorisin

Ty ty, nice to “meet” you. I’ll be around.

        • Toastman

There will be a few more showing up soon. It’s the Midnight at the Epoch crowd. Good people. You’ll enjoy them.

          • Williemojorisin

Cool, I’ll try to stay up.

          • TapestryMood

If you bring up CHEESE..the room will clear out;-)

          • MagnaDave

            Only if you cut it.

          • TapestryMood

You’ve been reading to many o fPhil’s jokes at The Public Room, Toots!

          • MagnaDave

          • Toastman

To follow up on Dave’s comment.

An elderly couple are in church. The wife leans over and
whispers to her husband, “I just let out a long, silent fart. What should I do?” The husband replies, “First off, replace the batteries in your hearing aid!”

          • TapestryMood

Ahemmmm…..yes, saw it earlier….hence my comment to “Prickly Dave”..and now, to you..-)

          • Toastman

Yep. I had to steal it. My father in law is/was a pastor. So I sent it to him.

          • TapestryMood

            LOL..;-)

          • Toastman

I can’t believe the border guards let you across. They were supposed to detain you until they contacted me ;-)

          • TapestryMood

Big innocent eyes and a few almost tears…LOL…a sniffle or two..and Voila ;-)

          • Toastman

            You are GOOD!

          • TapestryMood

Damn..I have to pass ..can’t say my original comeback..but ..it is hysterical;-D

          • Toastman

            Aww, go ahead ;-)

          • TapestryMood

            (((BLUSHING)))

          • MagnaDave

And feminism is set back 168 years in the process ;-).

          • TapestryMood

Ahem..feminism is all about using your intelligence..rejoicing in being women..it does not deny our femaleness..and the weaknesses of men, Cookie;-)

          • MagnaDave

            OK, 167 years, then.

  • MagnaDave

3 construction workers are having lunch. The first one opens his lunchbox and pulls out a ham and cheese sandwich.

“Ham and cheese again?! Every day it’s ham and cheese, ham and cheese. I swear, if I get ham and cheese tomorrow, I’m going to kill myself.”

The second one pulls out a bologna sandwich…

“Bologna gain?! OMG! Every single day it’s bologna! You know what, if I get bologna again tomorrow, I’LL kill myself!”

    The third one gets PB&J.

“Peanut butter and jelly again?! I can’t take this anymore! Every single day, it’s peanut butter and jelly! You know what, if I get it again tomorrow, I’ll kill myself, too!”

The next day, all three men get the same thing and all three kill themselves.

Since they were all friends, their wives decide to have a joint funeral service and end up talking together at the end. The first wife is inconsolable…

“Why didn’t he just say something? I thought ham and cheese was his favorite. I only made it every day because I thought that’s what he wanted.”

The second wife, in between sobs, is equally upset…

“Same here! He told me he loved bologna and never asked for anything else. I would have made him anything he wanted.” Why didn’t he just tell me?”

The third wife looks more confused than upset.

“I don’t get it. He made his own lunches…”

    • Richard M

I don’t know why that made me laugh. Must be all the beer.

      • MagnaDave

Because it was funny? That would be the scientific hypothesis.

      • TapestryMood

        It’s funny….it’s clean…it’s typical male;-)

        • geezer 56

It’s typical MagnaDave, anyway. ;) Hi, Taps!

          • MagnaDave

It was voted the funniest joke in the world, SO THERE!

          • geezer 56

            Hey, I liked it! :)

          • MagnaDave

            Oops.

I love that joke just because it’s so absurd.

Oh, and howdy! (Sorry about the “howdy…”)

          • Ricki Urban

Well I thought it was hilarious! lolz!!!

          • MagnaDave

            It’s one of my favorites.

          • TapestryMood

            xoxox ((HUGS)))

          • TapestryMood

Hi,Sweets…you know men won’t ask for directions if they don’t have GPS…same with sandwiches;-)

    • Ricki Urban

lolz!!!!! Hiya, MD! Great to see you! :D (about time you got here!)

      • MagnaDave

Hi, Ricki! How goes it in Florida (court cases aside)?

        • Ricki Urban

All is well, dear friend! mwah!

        • Ricki Urban

How’s things your way this fine night?!

          • MagnaDave

Boring clear skies. Maybe some rain later and then silly warm weather. Sigh… Big sigh…

      • Toastman

You’re in Florida? I just got done shoveling snow, twice today :-(

        • Ricki Urban

I am! And I’m so sorry when I hear what you all are going thru, TM! :(

  • MagnaDave

Hard-hitting investigative journalism from The Huffington Post:

What Your Earwax Says About You

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/17/earwax-individual-differences-chemicals_n_4775524.html

    • Toastman

Dave! That’s a real link. You made me give HP a click because I couldn’t believe it was a real story. Jeez, earwax.

      • MagnaDave

That wasn’t even the stupidest one. Just the most unbelievable. I guess “15 Things You Should Never Say to a Pregnant Woman” is now a weekly feature.

        • Toastman

You are still frequenting there? Doom on you, doom on you!

          • MagnaDave

Just to read comments and pick out some of the more enlightening stories to share.

          • gmb007

Dave goes so we won’t have to! LOL

          • Toastman

He tricked me into giving them revenue through a click. I hadn’t been there this month.

          • TapestryMood

You are a bounce..an in an out..it counts against them.

          • Toastman

            I feel better now.

        • geezer 56

Maybe someday they’ll come out with “17,028 Things to Just Shut the F**k up About” and be done with it. But no…

    • Cynthia W.

      Huh?? What?? I can’t hear you !!!

      • TapestryMood

        LOL!

      • MagnaDave

        I SAID… oh, never mind.

    • geezer 56

Made me look too, you devil. So, what did you find out about your earwax? What DOES it say about you?

      • Toastman

His earwax smells, unless he’s Asian.

        • geezer 56

Poor Asians, not being able to smell with their earwax.

        • Ricki Urban

          wut??!!

          • Toastman

These comments seem silly when you read them out of order, don’t they? It was about an article on HP.

          • Ricki Urban

            Yeah, they do! lolz!

      • MagnaDave

I couldn’t bring myself to read it.

        • geezer 56

Probably better that way. You might find out your earwax stinks. Who really wants to know that?

          • Toastman

            I’m not volunteering.

          • geezer 56

Hey, BTW, I got a good look at Reggie Ledoux’s back tonight. He definitely doesn’t have a spiral tattoo, unless it’s under that pentagram. Very nice catch. Now I want to rewatch every episode AGAIN looking for stuff like that.

          • Toastman

Thanks. I was reading reviews today and two people claimed it was there. Everybody said they were seeing things.

          • MagnaDave

I don’t really have any. No boogers, either. I guess I should contact HP and get my 15 minutes of fame.

          • geezer 56

The Amazing Boogerless, Unwaxy Man! Step right up!

          • TapestryMood

            Oh, gawd…lol..;-)

          • Toastman

            Back hair? Ear hair?

          • MagnaDave

You’ll have to wait for the HP article to find out.

          • TapestryMood

            TMI…augh!

          • MagnaDave

Oh, would it have been better if I had excess of both?

I guess clean sinuses offend thee?

          • TapestryMood

            Speechless…glad you are potty trained;-)

          • Toastman

Do we really know? Just saying, it is cyberworld ;-)

          • TapestryMood

I took my best ..and most hopeful..guess..;-)

          • MagnaDave

            Never claimed that I was.

      • Cynthia W.

Honestly, I had no idea that earwax could talk.

        • MagnaDave

You’d think we could hear it, being in our ears and all.

          Not mine, just speaking hypothetically.

          • Cynthia W.

Have you noticed how the word “ear” is so neatly tucked into the word “hear”? That was sheer brilliance !!

          • MagnaDave

            No! How clever!

        • Richard M

I never knew Dave can smell with his ear. Is he an Alien?

          • Cynthia W.

Can’t tell under all that hair.

Aww, Dave, you’re so sweet! :)

I really do like that song. Always did. SO happy, fun and feel good!

Even when 2 ladies sing it? Wow, I do believe you are evolving! Next up, Lulu sings Sweet Home Alabama…

          • gmb007

            Who’s Lulu?

    • geezer 56

What’s ironic is that one of those idiotic “Eleven Things” articles enraged me so much that I set up my HP account just so I could comment about how idiotic it was. And now I feel kinda idiotic!

You are a worthy opponent, sir. ;)

          • MagnaDave

I suspect that you are lulling me into complacency to catch me off guard.

          • geezer 56

I suspect you’re in denial about your earwax problem and thus would be pretty easy to sneak up on and catch off guard.

          • Ricki Urban

Hey, we know who started it tho!!!! lolz!!!

          • geezer 56

God, I do that all the time, too…

            Excellent!

          • geezer 56

Sorry, MD, but you’re in denial about your earwax.

          • MagnaDave

Nope. Maybe once a month, if that. Just to prove I’m human.

          • geezer 56

            You have an earwax PERIOD?

          • Toastman

Thanks Geezer. I was not going to go there ;-)

          • MagnaDave

No, I think the full moon just brings what little there is to the surface.

Gravity. Just like the tides and werewolves.

11 reasons why the lack of friggin earwax can prevent the 11 friggin ways to use earwax.

          • MagnaDave

Geez, I’m hoping there are NO ways to use earwax!

          • Cynthia W.

I can think of 11 ways to use it, especially in emergency situations.

          • MagnaDave

            Earwax emergencies? Do tell!

            On second thought…

          • geezer 56

            Squeaky hinges?

          • OneOtherPerson

If you leave it in your ear, the hinge doesn’t squeak anyways

          • Cynthia W.

Ski wax, plug up a tire puncture, seal an envelope and use a ring to emboss it, unstick sticky drawers, unstick windows so they open better, play with it in the tub to see if it floats.

          • MagnaDave

            Oh, my. Speechless here…

          • Toastman

            I’m figgen’ stunned here :-/

          • Toastman

Candles. Mythbusters did a thing on earwax. It was rather nasty.

          • MagnaDave

I had to give up on Mythbusters. They seemed to always change the parameters of their experiments to “disprove” things.

          • Ricki Urban

            too funny!! rolling here!! lolz!!!!!!!!

      • MagnaDave

I know the feeling. I read comments for a long time before I felt confident enough to join in. Now, I just want to comment on how stupid the articles are or some of the comments.

No wonder HP won’t let me.

        • geezer 56

NOW they won’t let you. I actually got to spew a lot of disgust in that first comment of mine.

          • MagnaDave

Wow. I’ll say. Was the article about Colorado Springs? I was born there.

          • geezer 56

Really? Isn’t that whole place pretty much overrun with really wacko Christians these days?

No, it was an article about things people over 50 shouldn’t say, and it included several things people over 50 have been saying for maybe the past 40 years. I literally wanted to slap the author.

          • MagnaDave

Oh, I looked in HP under “Geezer56″ and there were only 3 comments. Was that you?

          • geezer 56

Oh, pshaw! But actually, I’d just started last March. Had about a thousand comments.

          • MagnaDave

Hmm, who is this other “geezer56?” There can only be one!

            http://www.huffingtonpost.com/social/geezer56?action=comments&display=all&sort=oldest

          • geezer 56

OMG SOME EFFING SUMBIT*H STOLE MY NAME!!!!!!!

Or, uh, oops–I must have stolen HIS name, come to think of it, since I didn’t start commenting until March last year. And my name had a space after “geezer.”

            (never mind…slinking away now…)

          • MagnaDave

            Oddly, no-one ever stole MagnaTurd.

          • Cynthia W.

I have enough trouble with kitty turds in the litterbox, thank you very much !!

          • MagnaDave

I’m not really a turd, I just played one on HP.

          • geezer 56

            That’s SO strange! ;)

          • Toastman

            Someone is BUSTED.

          • geezer 56

Yeah. He sounds JUST like me, too. ;)

          • Toastman

I noticed that the comments seemed to be leaning that way. I’m glad it isn’t just me thinking that.

          • geezer 56

            Good grief, you remember that?

          • JP boi

I recall months ago when the whole issue came out regarding anonymity and they told HP folks that people that already had accounts, would be left alone and no changes would be made regarding anything to do with our accounts. In my opinion, It was a trick to keep us from jumping ship earlier, after they realized peopled were really going to leave. I never really got a chance to complain, but I sent them all emails telling them how they lied to everyone. But what really hurt was not being able to say goodbye or touch bases with anyone.

          • Richard M

Then they censored the comments of those still there that tried to deliver messages behind the Huff Curtain.

          • JP boi

I recall numbers of friends began dwindling. Than it was done.

          • Richard M

The strange thing was that some people bailed out the week before December 10th. Like they somehow knew in advance what was going to happen?

Or maybe they were just fed up with the carousals of confoundment?

          • MagnaDave

I had a list of about 80 people that I bookmarked. I checked on all of them after the tenth. Many left in September when we were first threatened with Facebook. Many more left when the Carousels of Confusion took over the whole site and most of the rest left after the tenth. All in all, 90% of the people I bookmarked no longer post at HP, although one or two decided to come back.

          • Richard M

The other day when Disqus was out of order, I went over to HP. I was feeling ornery, so I thought I would page through my friends there, and unfriend any who were still posting after 12/10…..Couldn’t find any.

          • JP boi

My friend David Healy left a few weeks before. He had been complaining about all the changes. That was one person I was sad to see leave.

          • geezer 56

I recall seeing a comment on one of the old threads by someone who had been some kind of moderator. Can’t remember his name now but his avi was a picture of Lebowski–could it have been The Dude or something like that? Anyway, he did mention he’d been given a couple days’ notice, at least. Maybe more. So some people were apprised of the situation.

          • Richard M

There were several Avatars of Lebowski. I remember The Dude though. He was very outspoken, which was rare there.

          • geezer 56

I think it was The Dude. And I just went back through all the old threads and thought I’d be able to find his comment near the top, but I couldn’t, dangit.

          • Cynthia W.

I stayed on until the 23rd of December, but then left due to excess moderation.

          • geezer 56

I think just about everyone here has been dealing with those same issues, particularly about not having a chance to say goodbye to friends. Some had tens of thousands of comments, thousands of friends, and had been there for many years. I was there only since March, so I was really just getting into it by comparison–and then they KILLED it with that awful “carousels” format and unbelievable moderation. The FB thing was just the last straw for me. I’d been trying to convince myself, for at least a couple months before that, that it had become a huge, frustrating time suck and I should stop spending so much time there. And then HP basically made the decision for me. And the day after that, Epoch Times published its first article about it and people started gathering here. Amazing.

          • MagnaDave

Well said. That sums it up for just about everyone, including me. Thank you!

          • geezer 56

Aw, shucks. I’ve had a little practice here…

          • MagnaDave

You covered all the bases. I don’t know how many times I told myself “I’ve had enough!” and then would go back the next day and try again.

In the end, though, it was because of our many friends there, not because of any misguided allegiance to HP. Something tells me that that is slowly starting to dawn on them now.

          • JP boi

            I agree with you.

          • Toastman

And I believe we are better off for it.

          • geezer 56

            WAY.

          • JP boi

Please excuse the poor typing…I use an android phone to post. But yes , I know how I had felt and it was really bad. I was there a year and my fans numbers were over a 1000. I looked forward to exchanging comments with them all.

          • geezer 56

Well, now you have us. And a safe haven. ;)

          • JP boi

Thanks Geezer! It’s nice to know. You guys have all been here since Dec? I wish I had known so I could have participated in all the discussions that took place after the aftermath in Dec. I sure would have been lighting up the board.

          • geezer 56

I wish you had, too! A few of us have been here since the early days, but new people have been arriving all along. Hey, in case you’re interested, here’s the first article that ET did that started it all. I was going through the comments sorted by “oldest” just recently and it was kinda fun. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/394651-new-comment-requirements-on-huffington-post-riling-users-many-are-leaving/

          • MagnaDave

Yes, that was the worst thing about it. Not being able to say goodbye. I think that they did it that way so we couldn’t tell our friends about places like this.

          • JP boi

I recall that day when we were all posting our complaints to HP regarding anonymity and out of the blue, I get a message from someone who had just been banned. But she came back, ( under another email and name) I’m sorry I can not recall her name, but she had been there for yrs and had so many fans, anyways, apparently I gathered from her message that they banned her for complaining. Which worried me because many of us were also complaining.

          • MagnaDave

Are you thinking of Sharyn by any chance? That happened to her but probably lots of others, too. I got a time out once but never managed to get completely banned. I had lots of other names already set up in case I did. It doesn’t matter now, though. I’ve been blocked ever since the 10th. What’s really funny (and stupid) is that at the top of my profile page it says “Welcome Back to HP!”

Maybe if they’d let me comment without having to join Facebook I’d feel a bit more welcome.

          • Richard M

How long is a “Time Out”? I never got that.

          • Cynthia W.

Until the temper tantrum is over. Theirs, not his.

          • Toastman

I got a time out or two. I think it’s about a week. Not really sure though.

          • Richard M

Kewl!…..Did they cite a reason? Or just tell you, you can’t post?

          • Toastman

Couldn’t post without it going into moderation, forever.

          • Richard M

No wonder I never got the Time Out. I was on permanent Time Out. They just didn’t tell me!

          • JP boi

This is the first I’ve heard about time outs.

          • MagnaDave

It was supposed to be for 48 hours but I told them to read the comments that I had replied to. They saw that I replied to the nasty comments that were directed at me with humor and reinstated me and banned the other guy permanently. At the time, I was rather impressed that they did that. I even got a sort-of apology over the whole incident.

          • Toastman

That’s how I got banned. You started that argument Dave.

          • MagnaDave

No. lol, I remember clearly who that was. My favorite exchange was when he said “Talking to you is like talking to a chimp!”

I wrote a long, angry reply and then erased it and typed out “That’s because chimps always outsmart you, too.”

There were very few people there that I couldn’t manage to get along with. Some of my best conversations were with people who disagreed with me 100% and some of those started out quite nastily.

            I actually miss that.

          • Cynthia W.

Just think about what you have accomplished here, Dave. You’ve finally come clean about your ear wax. I’ll bet you feel better for that.

          • Richard M

That was a great answer. What was his name?

          • MagnaDave

Darn it, I can’t remember now.

          • Richard M

That’s pretty amazing. They must have rolled the admin staff over since that happened.

          • MagnaDave

It was a guy named Eric. He helped me out on several occasions and seemed to take his job seriously and he seemed very fair and understanding. From what I’ve heard, he might have been the exception to the rule.

          • Cynthia W.

Just today I got an email that said someone replied to a comment I made at HP. I left there for good in December, and never had them email me about comments before.

          • JP boi

Interesting. Did you close your acct?

          • Cynthia W.

            Yes–that’s what’s so odd.

          • JP boi

Very odd. I wonder if the same is occurring to others who left.

          • geezer 56

How bizarre. Are the comments so boring there now that people are looking back 2 months in the archives to find anything interesting?

          • Cynthia W.

Looks that way. Strange, isn’t it?

          • Toastman

They want us back. Show me the money first HP!

          • Cynthia W.

            You suppose they miss us?

          • Toastman

If their revenue is dropping I’m sure. But we are just numbers to them.

          • JP boi

Sharon…not sure. Sorry. But I do recall that she mentioned that she had never had problems with HP before. I got an email when I closed my acct from them, It said they would miss me and all my information would be saved if I wanted to return. But I’m certain that was a standard email everyone else got as well.

    • JasmineStarlight

you ran out of Q-tips….lol who got that story to flesh out. HPuke stories

  • gmb007

Holykrap, we’re fixing to hit 1000 comments in 3…2..1…!!

    • Toastman

Wow. Us Americans can really trash a place. Fast!

    • Richard M

There was about 165 comments here already. So we have to hit 1165 to make a thousand.

      • geezer 56

        Jeezzus, pedantic much, Richard? ;)

  • MagnaDave

Two muffins are baking in an oven. One turns to the other and says…

    “It’s getting hot in here!”

The other one looks startled and exclaims:

“Holy cow! It’s a talking muffin!”

    • Cynthia W.

      I like it !!! LOL

    • geezer 56

It’s still good (even though it’s about the tenth time I’ve heard it). I may even remember it next time I get a chance to tell a joke!

      • Ricki Urban

I never remember jokes, geez!! And I really do try hard to! :D

        • geezer 56

And on the rare occasions when I do remember one, you can count on me to completely mess it up. Not my forte!

          • Ricki Urban

Nor mine at all! And I always say to myself – just remember the punch line and the rest will come! Never happens! lolz!

    • Ricki Urban

      that’s ridiculous!! lolz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Toastman

Hey Taps. I had carrots with dinner tonight ;-)

      Night!

  • Richard M

Albatross, Sea Gulls and other sea birds have special glands that allow them to drink ocean water. The glands filter out the salt. The salt becomes boogers in their noses. Then they sneeze it out!

    • MagnaDave

Rude of them not to use handkerchiefs.

      • Richard M

Handkerchiefs? They’re naked! So they have no pockets.

        • MagnaDave

OK, neckerchiefs! They do have necks, lol.

          • Richard M

            Not aerodynamic. Especially when wet.

          • MagnaDave

Are you saying that they sneezed out all the boogers in flight? Like pissing into the wind, that would be rather self-defeating.

          • Richard M

They are salt boogers. They won’t stick. Even if the wind blows them in your face.

          • MagnaDave

Seems I have some experiments I need to run.

          • Richard M

On a windy day, pack your nose full of table salt. Then sneeze it out….It will all blow away.

          • geezer 56

          • geezer 56

Albatross boogers, maybe. MagnaDave wouldn’t know about that, though.

          • rg9rts

We can have a taste test?????

          • geezer 56

          • geezer 56

OK, now I’m hungry! And not a gram of albatross snot in the whole kitchen.

          • Richard M

Albatroi don’t have snot. They have boogers.

          • geezer 56

Of course they have snot. How can they not?

          • Richard M

            Because they have booger. Sugar.

          • rg9rts

whats a booger sugar…thought they were salty?

          • Richard M

It’s two sentences. Booger and sugar rhyme. Just like Geezer’s snot and not!

3 airmen are shot down during the war. They land in a jungle, far from civilization. They have plenty of food and water, but no change of clothes. They could deal with that, other than the underwear situation which got worse and worse as the days dragged on. It became nearly unbearable.

One day, the commander tells them “Great news, we can finally change our underwear!” The men are both relieved and excited until the commander tells them…

“You change with him, you change with him…”

    • Cynthia W.

If they had plenty of water, and it was driving them nuts, then why didn’t they just wash them? Or, maybe they could have fashioned underwear from large leaves. I don’t think the commander was too smart if that was all he could think of. Of course, this is only my opinion.

      • MagnaDave

Oh, Cynthia, I was so hoping that no-one would point out the obvious flaw in that joke.

        Curses! Foiled again!

Oh, I know, they had to ration the water because they didn’t know how long it would take them to be rescued.

        Ha!

        • Cynthia W.

You neglected to mention the leaves.

          • MagnaDave

The only plants available were poison ivy and cactuses. Cacti? More than one cactus?

          • Cynthia W.

Well, if the whole jungle was filled with poison ivy and cactus, then they have a much larger problem than underwear. In fact, had they listened to their mothers, they would never have gone anywhere without clean underwear.

          • MagnaDave

But the underwear started out clean and their long sleeves, long pants, and boots protected them form the poison ivy and cacti.

            Again, HA!

          • Cynthia W.

Ha !! So where did they sleep then? Itchy poison ivy all around? What was the food wrapped in? Could they not have used the wrappers? What about their hands and faces? They were exposed to poison ivy and cacti. You see, no matter how you spin this, there will always be the question of what would have been a better solution.

          • MagnaDave

They slept in pine trees. Try making underwear out of pine needles! The food was in tin cans, not wrappers. They had gloves. They wore gas masks because of the underwear situation.

The ball’s in your court now!

          • Cynthia W.

Now you’re being difficult, Dave. They must have used parachutes, and there must have been rain for there to be a jungle. I just don’t think these guys had much survival training. besides, you said jungle, not forest, which implies that it wasn’t pine trees, but most likely palm trees, or other tropical type trees. I’m sure glad he wasn’t my commander.

          • MagnaDave

They crash landed in an open area and the parachutes were lost when the plane caught fire. The fire burned down all the jungle except for a few non-indigenous pine trees planted by people who wanted to decorate them at Christmastime. It only rained at night, very lightly, and, much to their dismay, they slept through it.

That commander happened to be my great-great-great-uncle Horatio Noseworthy and I take great umbrage at your attempt to besmirch his great name!

          • Richard M

If the plane caught fire and burned the jungle, how did they get the food and water out? Where did they hide while the jungle was burning?

          • MagnaDave

The food and water bounced out of the plane on impact and landed in one the pine slash Christmas trees, which, due to their rarity, had been flame-proofed by the locals who planted them, just in case such a thing happened..Who, by the way, only returned to the jungle from Dec. 18 to Jan. 1st to celebrate the Christmas season and, so, could not rescue the airmen who crashed on Jan 3rd.

They had 3 fire extinguishers and when one of them would burst into flames, the other two would put him out before any real damage was done.

          • geezer 56

I never heard of a fire extinguisher bursting into flames. That part’s just silly.

          • Cynthia W.

            I agree 100%

          • Richard M

Pine tree branches are way up in the top of the tree. You should know that living in S.C.

If the food and water was 100 ft up in a tree, how did they get it down? The plane and jungle were all burnt up!

          • MagnaDave

Actually, it depends on the type of pine tree. We have both types here. Some have branches from near the ground to the top, while others only have them towards the top. I’d never seen the second variety until I moved here.

          • Richard M

Only the tall ones with strong branches could catch tons of canned food. Flimsy Xmas trees would just drop it down to the ground.

Besides you said the trunks were fireproofed. You can’t fireproof flimsy branches at ground level!

          • rg9rts

Lower branches were browsed by moose

          • Richard M

Low browed moose might get the lowest ten feet, but to be safe from a forest fire would take at least fifty feet of cleared branches.

          • rg9rts

          • MagnaDave

It seems that I forgot to mention they were industrial-grade artificial Christmas trees.

          • Richard M

However..since your friend laughed when you used in in The Public House..why the phoney outrage at The Commas??

          • rg9rts

I have no idea what it meant and still don’t know for sure. And I’m sure that some of their terminology is a little off coloUr by our standards.

We left over a dozen messages. Aren’t you supposed to be a spy?

          • TapestryMood

            I keep telling you..sigh…too bad I will not take orders….you need me..lmao;-)

          • Richard M

So they just stood in a raging forest fire, spraying each other with foam?….That’s silly!

          • Cynthia W.

Well, I certainly didn’t want to put down great-great-great uncle Horatio. Perhaps he suffered a concussion, and therefore couldn’t think clearly. Thing is, were there a fire, it would have taken care of the poison ivy, thus clearing a space. If their food came in cans, they should have been left out to collect rain, no matter how light it was. Now, if the fire burned down the jungle, save for a few yuletide trees, then they were no longer lost in a jungle and easily seen and rescued due to the fire and the clear view. So, then why did they make such a fuss over the underwear?

          • geezer 56

If I get shot down in the jungle, can I bring you with me?

          • Cynthia W.

Absolutely, my friend. We can’t rely on Dave’s great-great-great uncle Horatio, for sure.

          • geezer 56

He’s a flippin’ idjut. Don’t tell MD I said so, though.

          • Cynthia W.

Goodnight all. Don’t worry about the guys in the jungle. They all got out and went home to clean underwear.

          • rg9rts

They all became confirmed nudists after fragging the OIC

          • Richard M

Fruit of the Loom. Or Hanes?

          • rg9rts

            Victoria’s secret

          • MagnaDave

They were lost so long that the poison ivy regrew, and without any large trees vying for sunlight, took over what was once a jungle. The tin cans were used build steps into the pine trees at night (the only time it rained, lightly) so the men wouldn’t have to sleep on the ground. Naturally, they had to be placed upside down to prevent the airmen with small feet injuring themselves. An air search was initiated but, unfortunately, the men were wearing camouflage, which was singed in the fire and thus looked like the surrounding terrain.. They tried to use the tin cans to reflect the sunlight and catch the attention of the rescue planes, but those pilots just assumed that they were glittering Christmas decorations which still festooned the pine slash Christmas trees.

          • Richard M

Ridiculous. First you claim the food cans were in the tree tops. Next you claim the airmen got into the tree tops by building can pyramids.

Which was it? We’ve caught you contradicting yourself, once too often!

          • MagnaDave

No, I said they landed in the trees after the initial plane crash. The fire, while not hot enough to ignite the flame-proofed future Christmas trees, caused the cans to expand enough to become unbalanced and fall from their precarious perches. Simple thermodynamics and physics.

          • Richard M

So, if the cans expanded, the airtight seal of the cans was compromised. They would be usable only in the short term.

Yet you stated that the airmen were there for months or years. You said they had plenty of food. Even if heat expansioon didn’t break the seal, the hundred foot fall would!

          • MagnaDave

The cans landed on the big, fluffy pile of ashes where the canvas covered airframe used to be.

          • geezer 56

(you two have me in stitches here!)

          • MagnaDave

Who will give in first? Stay tuned…

        • geezer 56

I think I should point out that muffins, in fact, cannot talk.

          • MagnaDave

Unless you’ve spent the entire time inside an oven during the baking process with them, I don’t see how you can make that determination.

Then there’s the Pillsbury Dough Boy…

          • geezer 56

I concede. A negative cannot be proven.

          • Richard M

I peeked in the window. They were not talking.

          • geezer 56

Well, now, really, would you expect them to talk when you peeked? They shut up because they were talking about you!

          • MagnaDave

They were facing the other way and besides, muffins don’t talk when the light is on.

          • rg9rts

Meadow muffins or just muffin tops?

          • MagnaDave

Oven muffins. Or movens, if you will.

          • rg9rts

Well meadow muffins can be used as fuel.

          • MagnaDave

LOL! Now I get it. A little slow on the uptake at this late hour. Yeah, that’s it, the late hour…

          • rg9rts

Early for me. You are the night shift

          • MagnaDave

I never got to mention last night. Congrats on learning Latin. I don’t know too many people that can say that.

          • rg9rts

It was a struggle but I did learn a lot from it. Mostly how to really study.

          • MagnaDave

I took 4 years of Spanish. I can say hello, ask for the bathroom, and ask people if they speak Spanish.

In reality, I can follow some conversations if they go slowly enough, but then I miss a word or two and get hopelessly lost.

          • rg9rts

Missing a word or two can earn you a slap in the wrong crowd

          • MagnaDave

            Those words I know, lol.

          • rg9rts

THAT is why you get slapped!

          • MagnaDave

True, very true. We had a friend who THOUGHT he spoke Spanish and convinced him that a word meant “friend” that meant pretty much the opposite. Never got to see him use it in a conversation, though.

          • rg9rts

Reminds me of a time we brought a guy to a impersonators show. And fixed him up!

          • MagnaDave

LOL! I can’t top that one! Too funny (not for him)!

          • rg9rts

Left the best for last. Told him that (s)he was very fast and didn’t like to dawdle. So after a couple throat probing tongue thrusts he made his hand assault…………..PRICELESS

          • MagnaDave

Just great. So much for sleeping tonight, lol.

          • TapestryMood

And you think the breast joke was bad…ha!

          • rg9rts

            That was no joke dear

          • TapestryMood

It was a JOKE played on someone, Cupcake.

You are not on the leader board. Like all your comments and votes went poof!

          • MagnaDave

I guess because I changed my profile to private. I didn’t know there was a leaderboard. I’ll change it back. See what happens…

Hello greetings from the UK, this fine day

    • geezer 56

1:15 in the a.m. here! Good morning!

      • rg9rts

Been there done that about 3 hours ago

        • geezer 56

Who in the he** posts comments at 4:15 in the morning? That’s just crazy!

          • rg9rts

Mirror time …..AIA is at 9;15 zulu

          • geezer 56

Sorry, I don’t belong to your secret club, so confusing references to time warps and African tribes will just go right by me.

          • rg9rts

Zulu is GMT which is home time for most of our brits till chezmoi shows up and is the ex seattleite now in France.

          • geezer 56

Now see, if I actually have to remember that I’m gonna lose some cherished childhood memory to make room for it. And…dangit, what was it?

          • rg9rts

            Go to bed

      • againstitall

11.45am in the morning here, night owls, chewing the fat, the jokes are good, keep em coming.

        • geezer 56

Pardon my time zone, but clearly I’m so tired I’m getting punchy! Sorry I missed you…

          • againstitall

            You didn’t miss me.

    • rg9rts

Looks like 25 sammy 25 disease has spread to the Commas too

      • againstitall

        What disease would that be?

        • rg9rts

Also know as lally’s gags or Phil’s syndrome

          • againstitall

Not sure if I like the tone of that remark!!《》

          • rg9rts

Lally is a buddy from HP days and a pen pal too. Phil I just met but sammy gave her approval so that’s all I need there. She too goes way back. Malta has made me an honorary brit too.

          • againstitall

I wasn’t refering to them rg, you invited me over to the comnas then insult me, nice.

          • rg9rts

            Insult??? Not intentional pardon me

          • lallywendy

Don’t worry darling a term used of old, tho some still do, refering to gay men! ‘poof’s or pouffes are also things you put your feet on. We have some in our sitting room, I often ask my beloved to pass me the ‘poof’! I risk a PC fine every time I say it!! xxxx

          • rg9rts

Why can’t the english teach their children english??? Prof Higgins MFL

          • Richard M

What is MFL? Merkin Football League?

            My Fair Lady

          • lallywendy

we do darling it’s just that the people across the pond have chewed it up and spat out an obtuse version and claimed it as their own! A very off colour (color) one!! xoxoxoxo

          • rg9rts

            Priceless!!!!!

          • lallywendy

Thank you darling I am! xoxoxoxox

          • Richard M

Except I don’t see this word ‘poof’ in the text?…..Anyway, what is your progress report in recruiting, 009?

          • rg9rts

            Another conversation

          • lallywendy

is there somewhere sir darling, I’ve only just woken oooo s t r e t c h yawn mmmm will get recruiting again after my coffee mmm kissy kissy

          • rg9rts

            EEEEWWWWWWWUUUUUU

          • lallywendy

You are just jealous darling!! Sigh pout xoxoxoxox

          • rg9rts

Kissing that??? EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWUUUUUU must be a chick thing

          • lallywendy

What kissing a man in uniform? I rather suppose it is ….. but he is a dream boat……sigh you told me you’d find me fresh meat well he’s a pork chop for me to chew!! xoxoxox

          • Richard M

He’s just jealous, Dearheart. Good thing for 002 that he’s useful. Otherwise I’d have to demote him to latrine orderly.

          • lallywendy

Oh I know darling so many want to extingish this flame between us none will succeed! Well suppose I’d better put my hot pants back on and get back to recruiting sir darling! Ooo giggle thought I was supposed to salute you not the other way round! Sigh must dash will deal with THAT later kissy kissy xxxxxxx

          • Richard M

Do please mention that to 007, then. In American speak “poof” means vanished, in an instant–Poof.

Just like the word “table”, when used as a verb means the exact opposite in Brit-speak as it does in Ameri-speak.

          • againstitall

If you call someone a disease, its usually taken as an insult, same as saying someone is a plaque on the Commas site.

          • lallywendy

not you too! sigh sammy started all this by calling me do lally, now you with lally’s gags, btw I don’t tell gags, I’m mucky innuendo a la Carry On. But I’m really a shy, sensitive soul!! xoxoxox

  • OneOtherPerson

So are we moving in and crashing on the couch, or are we supposed to go back across the border?

    • chezmoi

The theory is that this thread is lighter in comments and so might work a little more smoothly. But I’m not sure Disqus can handle anything like the volume we feed it, even on this thread. It’s still a little jerky and slow.
But then, so are a lot of us. Heh.

      • rg9rts

Hey that was my ex’s name for me !!! Jerky and slow

        • JasmineStarlight

Bet you’re glad she’s an EX….she sounds live a lovely peach

          • rg9rts

That really was more descriptive of her technique

      • OneOtherPerson

I know the theory, and it’s sound.
But I’m not convinced moving around like nomads will keep the group together.

On a side note, we missed last weeks snow storm, but got hit last night.
Let the dog out this morning and he disappeared into a drift. most of the yard has enough snow to cover his back, but his head is sticking out. He’s a big dog too.
I wish I could adapt as easily as he does. Doesn’t seem to mind it at all.

        • rg9rts

Had a dachshund that did the same thing, you just followed her tail to see where she was

          • OneOtherPerson

This one’s a 100 lb. Golden / Rottweiler cross. He’s leaving good sized trenches in the snow. Now if I could get him to plow the driveway.

          • JasmineStarlight

lol—you would’ve it made, you can have him walk back and forth on the driveway……at least you have a buddy to dig a tunnel to the car.
More white stuff here too—feeding the birds, how they fight over the food, just like humans at times.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

They should make some kind of plow blade or shovel that you could harness to him….I bet he could push a lot of snow out of the way if you stood at the end of your walk with his favorite treat and called to him to come and get it.

          • OneOtherPerson

this one could care less about treats.
But if you throw a large stick or his horse ball, he’ll go get it and bring it back every time. If it’s in water, even better.
It must be the Golden in him.

          • rg9rts

What is a horse ball?? Not horse puckies???

          • OneOtherPerson
          • OneOtherPerson

They’re just a little bit smaller than Christie’s balls

          • rg9rts

Okay I’m familiar with those never put a name to it

          • JasmineStarlight

lol :) cute vision rg9…. I’m watching a squirrel digging for nuts, only his tail is visible, he pops up checks for predators, back down he goes again. The little swallows have a hard time…pushed out of the way :(

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

I saw some robins yesterday…don’t know if they were ones who toughed out the winter here in NJ (bad decision) or early birds. I really do hope they are a sign of spring.

          • OneOtherPerson

Saw my first Robin yesterday too. I think there was an economy off season flight they took.

        • thinkingwomanmillstone

Good Morning all. I had a rescued greyhound. When we adopted him they insisted that we buy a waterproof fleece coat for him because greyhounds are not good in the cold. We did that and in our first big snowfall we put his coat on him and Vincent galloped into the backyard. He then proceeded to take off his coat and bury it in a snow pile and spent a lot of time frolicking and rolling the snow. After several times of having to go on a search and rescue for his $200 coat, we learned that at least this one greyhound must have had some husky in him. You could hear him giggle and laugh in the snow. Very big guy, too. He was 31″ at the shoulder. Was a skin and bones 70 pounds when we got him and a healthy 95 pounds without an inch of fat on him when we got him to his proper weight. The nicest dog I’ve ever met. The late great, Vincent Van Go.

        • chezmoi

Oh, I guess it gives us a little exercise, running from room to room. Let’s face it, with DIsqus, if you come in too late, you miss the party and by the time you catch up, you miss another hunk. It wasn’t this slow when we arrived, but they will absolutely not admit that there is a problem. It’s not ET’s fault, but we could ask them to renew the pages occasionally and see if that helps. No one’s going to dig back in the archives, anyway.

          • Canukistani

Mornin’. Actually they do give us new pages when things get bad enough that we start asking for them. If we’d just had one, they probably would have done it by now, but since we had a place to move to that was still in good shape we just migrated over.

I hope we do keep the old ones online for awhile though. I’ve dug back through them a few times and gotten some useful info.

    • jbiot

      Hey One. Good morn.

CN’s got great health care, Canuk, and some pretty entertaining mayors who really know how to party. And it’s even warmer than where I am nowadays!

      Maybe stay a while :)

  • Denni A

did anyone watch Chris Hayes last night, learned more on the history of past Presidents.
the panel voted GW Bush 5th worst prez.
    1) Andrew Johnson
    2) can’t rememeber- think it was Millhouse(sp?)
    3) Buchanan
    4) Hoover
Andrew Jackson was voted the meanest President – he oversaw the genocide of Native Americans and killed anyone he didn’t like. he engaged in duel after duel (apparently he won them all). very interesting stuff.

    • rg9rts

If Hoover had been able to grasp the domestic situation as well as he had the post war international situation, he would have been rated much differently.

      • Denni A

that’s what they discussed last night. he did horribly during the depression and made it worse, much like today he said the gov’t shouldn’t help the people who were going through the worst depression after the financial crash.
it’s pretty much the same thinking with today’s republicans.

        • rg9rts

He just didn’t get it. He led the rebuilding of europe post WW I .

  • jbiot

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/edie-windsor-meets-with-obama-in-the-oval-office.

Kinda cool photo of POTUS and Edie WIndsor whose heroism made the SCOTUS decision on DOMA possible.

    Valerie Jarrett wrote:

“When the Court handed down its decision last June, President Obama
called Edie from Air Force One to congratulate her on her victory. And
earlier this week, the President invited Edie to the France State Dinner
and the Oval Office to thank her in person.”

Two great Americans, two amazing stories, both casting shadows that will long outlive them.

So I think it’s now fair to say – based on the research of Born – that HP is shifting to a new system for analyzing traffic and that this shift was likely coincident with the launch of Phoenix on Feb 4 when HP appeared to fall of a cliff in terms of web traffic.Cookie extensions associated with quantcast have been removed from some or all of the heavy traffic sections of HP.

The new analytics engine is Akamai and Google based, it appears, per Born.

I think it’s fair to say that the ranking on quantcast makes no sense now and is no longer worth watching.

Btw, there are rumors afoot that Born is a graduate of the Jedi Academy – so far unconfirmed.

    • Canukistani

I think that makes sense too. But however it clanks along, if it does, it’s pretty clear that HP will do it without meaningful conversation. The Hollow Post.

Mornin’ folks. I’m just passing through and taking a minute to restock the beer fridge, but I’m glad to see the party’s still goin’ on. I think we may need to ask for a new bar pretty soon too, BTW, but until that happens the beer here is on the house!

    • Denni A

      got any margarita’s… ;-)

      • Canukistani

Uh, I didn’t see any in the beer fridge/ You may have to wait until we get a new bar rolling. or go drag a few over from the old bar. It’s still open.

  • Unlisted2u

Geez — the hassle I had at the border you just wouldn’t believe..!!
Who knew yer limited to 3 dozen bagels..?

    • Canukistani

Next time just tell them I said it was ok.

      • Unlisted2u

        I will remember that.. :)
I must admit it was a friendly hassle tho,
They helped me eat down to 3 doz.. then let me in..
Mar & Marissa will be upset tho, cos they ate all the onion & raisin bagels..

        • Canukistani

Uh oh. You should have brought along a couple of beers to bribe them. I’ll give them a talking to.

          • Unlisted2u

            C’mon..
There isn’t an American beer I could have possibly brought along that I wouldn’t have been laffed at about..

          • Canukistani

Yeah, probably true. Maybe some bourbon, although they might not know what that is. Best I just have a word with them. They’ll respect this uniform or I’ll have their toques!

          • Unlisted2u

One question: Does Nell get the respect she deserves..?

          • Canukistani

Count on it! Let me tell you she’s even saved my bacon a time or two.

          • Unlisted2u

            Good to know..
A woman who can counterpunch is hard to find.. ;o)

You never know! Have some fun anyway…it doesn’t always turn into the great love affair, or the happy ever ending.

          • Unlisted2u

They musta taken the same classes as mine.. ;)

          • Canukistani

          • Canukistani

No kidding! We got the bestest and the brightest and Ghu help you if you cross any of them! By the time they were done with you, there’d be nothing left but a greasy spot.

          • Unlisted2u

Perhaps that should be M_Daves next avatar then..?

          • Canukistani

Yeah, some of us just learn a little more slowly than others, I guess. It can be fun to watch the lessons though :-)

          • Unlisted2u

That guy really knows how to take a punch, I gotta give him that.. ;o)

          • Canukistani

I guess that comes from getting so much practice :-)

          • Unlisted2u

            ROFL..! :)
Gotta admit he gets his jabs in as well tho..

          • Canukistani

Wouldn’t be any fun if he didn’t flop around a bit :-)

          • Unlisted2u

Lika feesh outta watta, lol..! ;)

      • JasmineStarlight

Hey that was a successful launching party last night, still bleary eye…..1400 comments, the party was buzzing, the music was flowing.
I keep putting off shoveling :(……perhaps wait this time to melts.

        • Canukistani

Yeah, it was a great success! I’m happy we had such a good turnout and there was enough to drink!

Maybe do the shoveling a bit at a time, in stages. Snow here today too and that’s how I’ll probably deal with it.

          • JasmineStarlight

            That’s a good strategy Canuk :)
love when everyone flies in at once, great energy in the House of C –last night

          • Canukistani

It was a very good time. It reminded me of the feeling a couple of days after a lot of us got here. There was too much going on to really follow it all, but it was all fun and good to dip into here and there. It was like circulating at a big party where everybody was fun to talk to and no dullards were allowed.

          • Gin1234

That’s a relief, to not be considered a dullard!

          • Canukistani

You!!?? Never. I don’t think we have one on the place, well, maybe me, but I’m in disguise. (sshh!)

          • Gin1234

Doesn’t anyone use a snow thrower? I can’t shovel all this anymore, and a thrower is nice. Except that this winter, mine wouldn’t start and I wrecked my shoulder and back shoveling it. Never again!

    • JasmineStarlight

lol–goodmornin 2U….the border-guard wanted to confiscate them for themselves :(
now you have me hungry for a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese—yum….just have to dig a path out. enjoy the day!

      u2—beautiful day

    • rg9rts

And like usual no ragels or boaches!

      • Unlisted2u

Those are the first ones that went..

        • rg9rts

Is that why you nod off?

          • Marlie

Did you get my email over the weekend?

          • rg9rts

No any changes? Same address. I have trouble with yahoo sending mail straight to trash

          • Marlie

            Yes, same address.

          • rg9rts

Retry will check when you tell me to

          • Marlie

            Give me a few minutes.

          • Unlisted2u

            Nope.. Wish it was tho..
I’m guessing after affects still from the ABs..

    • thinkingwomanmillstone

Well if they were from a Colorado Deli, I could understand while they had a little suspish….they probably would have let you bring all that you wanted if you had offered to share with them .

      • Unlisted2u

        CO deli’s — new formulations.. ah yasssss…..
        Good thought.. :)

        • thinkingwomanmillstone

My husband has a conference in Denver next fall. If my son gets into this new program we are trying to get him into (fingers crossed), I may just go along. I’d like to see if pot would make me feel better (not hight) but health wise. Medical mj is allowed in NJ but they will not issue any licenses to anyone to dispense it so there is no where to legally get it even if you could find a doctor to prescribe it. I unfortunately have the necessary medical problems it’s prescribed for but no way to try it.

          • OneOtherPerson

do they allow you to grow it?
You can buy seeds online . Good ones too.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

Nope. I have legal custody of my adult disabled son, I cannot take a chance with any legal problems or they could affect that. I wouldn’t know what to do with it if I had it but I am sure I could get the necessary info from friends ;-) I wouldn’t want to smoke it as I hate any kind of smoking.

          • rg9rts

Buy edibles which are usually used for medical treatment or find canabutter

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

That’s my plan…but I have to do it where it is legal.

          • rg9rts

Washington is another source and they sell rec pot.

          • OneOtherPerson

I had a 2 room indoor garden in California and sold to the medical clubs.
Didn’t use it often myself, but made good brownies for the occasions I did. Couldn’t taste it at all, but they allowed me to sleep when nothing else did.

          • JasmineStarlight

Someone I know brought a bunch once to Thanksgiving dinner….
            crazy peeps.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

That’s what I am hoping for. It looks like things are going in the right direction. Maybe Christie will be distracted and things will get past him. He finally signed the bill to authorize its use but still is holding up the dispensing legislation and rules. He’s a sneaky s0b.

          • Unlisted2u

I still don’t know if you’d be able to find out, cos technically you’d only be able to legally try the recreational type..

          • rg9rts

            The effect is the same

          • Unlisted2u

            Probably..
But probably they also have different strains.. and diff strengths too..

          • rg9rts

            GF was licensed Med producer

          • Unlisted2u

            And you were QC..? ;o)

          • rg9rts

            I wish!

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

If I felt better for a day, I’d take it. Can’t take the codeine based prescriptions which are the best forms of oral prescription pain killers (percocet, vicodin, etc) so I am limited. Since the list is so low, I try not to take much because I don’t want to build a tolerance. I need to save the meds I can take for hospital visits. It’s a tough balancing act. Of course, I’m limited also ’cause I won’t take anything that would affect my driving…even if it doesn’t affect my ability to drive. The legal consequences if I get into an accident or pulled over for something would be severe. But, on the evenings and weekends when my husband is home, it would be nice to have something to try. Maybe I’d be able to get some sleep. Enough whining , though. It is what it is and many are worse off.

          • rg9rts

The effects are temporary and if you do an evening when you don’t have to go anywhere you can see for yourself. Most first timers don’t feel anything

          • rg9rts

            Helped my GF with chemo

          • JasmineStarlight

thinkingwoman…..never tried pot in your life? I wish they would make it legal—it’s so mild and helps some. I tried a few times hate it—but everyone usually loves it….relaxes them. Have you ever tried large amount of fish oil, there’s a doctors grade….sometimes this helps.
            Good luck

          • thinkingwomanmillstone

No…never tried it. Can’t do fish oil…thanks for the tip, though.

          • JasmineStarlight

It sounds very difficult finding the right stuff, or being able to take it…glad you keep your sense of humor and optimistic outlook.
            Hang in there!

      • rg9rts

Go ahead ask him for a ragel or boach and see what happens

  • thinkingwomanmillstone

This is a great banjo/guitar piece by one of my son’s favorite banjo players. The phenomenal Mean Mary. You can’t be sad while listening to banjo music.

  • Cynthia W.

Good morning. Did you all just get here, or were you here all night?

    • Marlie

      Hey, good morning.

      • rg9rts

        Want some snow balls????

        • Marlie

Sure, why not. We have bountiful sunshine this morning. Shall I send some your way?

          • rg9rts

Please as it is snowing again on top of the 20″ we got in the past week

          • Marlie

Oh, good grief. That’s far above normal isn’t it?

          • rg9rts

Usually get a melt in between but it is frigid. Warm up this weekend then monday back to the freezer

          • Marlie

Wow, I’m speechless. My daughter is there and I worry about her falling, spring can’t get here quick enough can it? By the way, you should have incoming.
