HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—Each year, Shen Yun Performing Arts travels the globe, bringing 5,000 years of divinely imparted Chinese culture to thousands. For its 2014 tour, Shen Yun made it way to the Rocket City, Huntsville, Alabama. Huntsville is a center of learning, science, military and aerospace.
“We loved it,” said retired Army officer Timothy Robinson at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall, Jan. 26.
Chief Warrant Officer Robinson, who retired in 2011, attended the performance with his wife Monica and their middle school student daughter.
“It’s beautiful. We were up right close,” she said. “Breathtaking.” Though their daughter had an activity-filled weekend, Mrs. Robinson was determined to include her in the experience.
Though the New York-based Shen Yun has travelled extensively around the world since 2006, the performance cannot be seen in China today, where traditional culture has been nearly destroyed at the hands of communist rule for 60 years.
Mr. Robinson, who felt that Shen Yun should be enjoyed by all peoples, especially children, said that it could “broaden their horizons.”
He said, with a serious expression, speaking of seeing Shen Yun, “I think this is something that all kids and adults should do, and be a part of.”
He thinks if children see Shen Yun “it will make them better,” he said.
This was his first time seeing the performance, “and I am glad I did it,” he said.
