TORONTO, Canada—Pharmacist Nabil Said came to enjoy a night of traditional Chinese culture on Thursday night at Sony Centre for the Performing Arts and left recommending his friends take it in for themselves.
“It’s amazing,” said Mr. Said who owns two pharmacies in Toronto and Vaughan.
He said has read a little about Chinese culture, and wanted to experience it first-hand.
The world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, Shen Yun Performing Arts was established in 2006 with a mission of reviving authentic Chinese culture, which has been all but lost in China today under the current authoritarian regime.
The performance features works of classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world that involves hundreds of unique moves and postures. Shen Yun works to capture the richness of 5,000 years of history.
Mr. Said was impressed by the professionalism of the dancers.
His friend and pharmacist technician Susan Brown, who accompanied him that evening, was also impressed by the dancers.
“The overall feeling is that it was very elegant,” she said.
“I can’t believe how light on their feet everybody is, and how effortless all the movements looked.”
“Very fluid, beautiful,” she concluded.
Through its dance performances, Shen Yun’s presents ancient legends, beloved tales, pastoral landscapes, and contemporary tales of courage.
Ms. Brown, who is of Chinese background, but raised in the Carribbean is not very familiar with Chinese culture, but she said she was happy to be presented with such a beautiful production. She was also happy she could easily follow the story-based dance.
“It was lovely,” she said.
Mr. Said was impressed by all aspects of the performance, ranging from the animated backdrop to the orchestra, describing it as unique.
He said he would readily recommend it to his friends, and encouraged them to come.
