PORTLAND, Ore.—Insurance senior underwriter Dali Evey saw beauty in Shen Yun’s positive messages and values at Portland’s Keller Auditorium, on Jan. 18.
“The Chinese culture seems to very humble and have very beautiful hearts,” said Ms. Evey, who works for Red Shield Insurance.
For Shen Yun’s performers, a spiritual connection lies at the heart behind each movement of the dancers and each note of the musicians. It is for this reason that so many audience members sense something different about Shen Yun.
This source of Shen Yun’s inspiration is also rooted in traditional Chinese culture, a culture nearly ruined at the hands of the current regime in China. Moreover, Shen Yun’s revival of traditional Chinese culture is predicated upon each performer emphasizing the improvement of their moral character and virtuous qualities, characteristics rooted in traditional China.
Evey was not only captivated by Shen Yun’s inner beauty, but by the breathtaking music and costumes as well.
“It was beautiful. The colors are amazing,” she said. “So colorful and the music is so pretty. I just love it.”
Shen Yun displays all-new costumes every season, portraying China’s rich dynastic history. “Every costume in a Shen Yun performance is presented with brilliant colors, displaying a splendid spectacle,” reads Shen Yun’s website.
“They’re gorgeous. I wouldn’t mind having a few of them myself. They’re beautiful; it’s amazing,” added Ms. Evey.
Along with Shen Yun’s costumes, its orchestra masterfully blends two of the world’s greatest classical musical traditions: the distinctiveness and beauty of Chinese instrumentation with the power and precision of Western orchestration.
In all, Shen Yun offers an experience like no other in the realm of entertainment.
Ms. Evey, however, sensed the deeper content permeating just below the surface of Shen Yun’s entertainment: “I think it’s probably for just peace, kindness, love,” she said. “Just be kind to your human man [so] that cultures can co-exist and live in this world together.”
