Shen Yun Offers ‘Hope for the Future,’ Says Greek Businessman

NEW YORK—Retired Greek business owner, Michael Molokotos, and his wife Eleni Molokotos were not only blown away by Shen Yun Performing Arts Friday night at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, but they saw a much greater value.

“I think [Shen Yun] will help China as a country,” Mrs. Molokotos said. “A country without tradition cannot exist.”

Mrs. Molokotos said the importance of traditional culture can’t be undermined. She loved the fact that, although the Shen Yun is prohibited from performing in mainland China, the group presents traditional Chinese culture to a U.S. audience.

New York-based Shen Yun is the only performing arts group that has a mission to revive the 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture through the medium of music and dance. The company is, however, prohibited from performing in China, where traditional culture has been almost completely destroyed by the Chinese regime since the Cultural Revolution.

“I feel [Shen Yun] will help a lot for the freedom of people,” Mr. Molokotos said. “It is something that will make hope for the future, for our children, for our grandchildren.”

Mr. Molokotos’s company produced yarn for knitting wool, and business opportunities allowed him and his wife to travel to China.

“I’ve been to China and we know how it is now,” Mrs. Molokotos said.

Mr. Molokotos praised the performance for its artistic skill, the unique orchestra that combines the sounds of East and West, and the animated digital backdrops.

“Everything was perfect,” he said.
