RALEIGH, N.C.—Rain, winds, and tornado warnings threatening North Carolina over the weekend did not stop theatergoers from attending the long awaited Shen Yun Performing Arts return to the Triangle. Shen Yun gave three performances between Jan. 10 and 11 at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
Frankie T. Jones, Sr. made a one-hour trip and back from Burlington, N.C. to Raleigh, N.C., so that he could see Shen Yun on Jan. 10th.
“I thought it was extremely well directed and produced,” Mr. Jones said. “It accentuated the culture of China.”
“Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture,” according to Shen Yun’s website.
Mr. Jones said “It really brought a world view to this area.”
Jones is a theologian, as well as president and CEO of Phoenix One Enterprises, a fortune 500 consulting firm.
“The thing to take away from Shen Yun was the accentuation of the culture, and the embracement of traditions from 5,000 years ago,” he said. “It’s unbelievable, highly recommended.”
Morgan, Glen, and Savane, three friends from Raleigh took in a Shen Yun performance on Jan. 10. Morgan, an acupuncturist, said Shen Yun amazed her. “They make it look so effortless,” she said, also enjoying that the performance had parts that were funny.
Glen, a psychotherapist, said she really enjoyed Shen Yun and the narration. Each program is introduced by to bi-lingual emcees.
“I found it very lovely,” Savane, a visual merchandiser, said.
Glen’s sister lives in China, and Shen Yun beckoned memories of time with her sister in China. “When I see the scenery behind [the dancers], it reminds me of some of the places we traveled” to, she said.
Savane said she enjoyed the classical Chinese dance more than anything else.
The three friends gave rave reviews for Shen Yun. “It’s fantastic and amazing,” Morgan said. “It’s exciting,” Glen said. And Savane said Shen Yun is a “Great, great show.”
