Sales Director: ‘The talent and the passion were outstanding’

NEW YORK—Wrapped in wonderful memories, Valerie Ottofaro took in the high notes of the soprano during the Shen Yun Performing Arts performance at Lincoln Center on Wednesday evening.

“My mom used to be a soprano,” said Ms. Ottofaro, who works as director of sales at a luxury train company. “It just brought wonderful memories of my mom, and of the beautiful talent that young lady has.”

That young lady is the award-winning soprano soloist, Haolan Geng, who’s been with New York-based Shen Yun since 2009.

Ms. Ottofaro attended the Wednesday evening performance at Lincoln Center, where Shen Yun has been performing for the past three years.

The company was established by foremost classically trained dancers and artists who wished to revive the 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture.

“It brought chills to my heart. The talent and the passion were outstanding,” Ms. Ottofaro said.

“I am just going to tell everyone they have to come see this before it is over.”

‘Very Touching’

For Cristen Nufelt, who works in advertising, Shen Yun was wonderful.

“I really liked The Steadfast Lotus. That was very touching, it almost brought me to tears,” she said.

Ms. Nufelt attended the performance with her grandmother, for whom it was a Christmas present.

“It’s the best one I’ve ever had,” her grandmother said. “It’s the first time I’ve seen anything like it, it’s just very impressive, very beautiful, very different from what I’m used to, and I love it.”

‘Breathtaking’

Kevin Cummings, who attended the performance with his mother Shirley Cummings, loved the animated backdrops.

“It was quite shocking to see how well the animation worked with the actors,” said Cummings, an automotive technician.

“Beautiful is not a good enough word,” he said, adding he found the energy of the performance breathtaking.
