A Funny Look at 1930s Predictions of What We’d Be Wearing by 2000

So, it’s 2014 and we’re not wearing crazy silver spacesuits like in those futuristic movies made decades ago.

Here’s a video from 1939 in which American designers imagine futuristic fashion, the fashion of 2000 and beyond.

Some of the predictions aren’t so far off: A couple of designers say clothes will be temperature controlled. While this dream hasn’t exactly been realized, battery powered, heated vests and boots are available, and Uniqlo’s heattech clothing uses the body’s moisture to generate heat.

Another prediction, that skirts would disappear altogether, hasn’t come true, but they are certainly more rare than in the 1930s.

In the 1980s, Michael J. Fox’s character time travels to 2015 in “Back to the Future II.” In 2015, clothes has built-in drying systems, shoes fasten themselves around the wearer’s feet, and sleeves automatically adjust to a person’s arm length.

Between Lady Gaga and Madonna it’s pretty prophetic

No credit for Miley or is she known for her lack of clothing

        I didn’t see any predictions for twerking……

  • rg9rts

Do even remotely that they could imagine someone twerking??Much less in public and before an audience?

Actually, they nailed it for the 1980′s. …big shoulders, harem pants, discoesque looks.

They got the man stuff about right — I see guys in New York who look like that all the time, and we are indeed “outfitted with telephones” and man purses now. Well, at least some of us are.

“ooooh, swish” is my new favorite expression. I reserve the right to use my old favorite expression, “Beat it, HP”, anytime the need arises.

I was just going to write that! :D ooh, swish (now it means – nevermind)

Hey Miley/Madonna wears that silver outfit only way shorter….Swoosh– they never see into the future, from the era they’re in at the moment. Loved the light bulb hat that detects a good man, I guess its starts blinking when one is in the area. They certainly had imagination…they got the phones right.
