Hennessey’s Unmatchable Custom Performance Cars

Since 1991 Hennessy Performance (HPE) has been making vehicles faster—much faster.

Founder John Hennessy started with his own vehicles, starting with a Mitsubishi 3000 GT he raced everywhere from Pike’s Peak to the Bonneville Salt Flats, where it hit 173 mph.

After two years of hopping up Japanese imports, a customer brought in one of the first production Dodge Vipers to get the HPE treatment. The resulting car, the Hennessey Venom 500, was so popular that by 1996 Vipers were the only cars HPE modified. Hennessy has built high-powered Vipers for Jay Leno, Bob Lutz and other Chrysler executives.

After a decade of Vipers, a customer asked Hennessy to build a 200+-mph Ford GT, prompting Hennessy to build a series of those. In 2008 he started working with Cadillac’s new CTS-V; the finished product produced 650 bhp. He then began designing, building, and selling high-performance parts for Chevrolet’s Camaro.

In 2010 HPE began selling its Venom GT, a supercar built from the chassis of  Lotus Elise, powered by an aluminum seven-liter aluminum V8. The Venom GT holds the record as the fastest accelerating road car in existence, and is second only to the Bugatti Veyron in top speed, hitting a verified 266 mph.

Now HPE customizes a wide range of sports cars, trucks, and SUVs, and sells everything from induction and exhaust kits to full-on twin-turbo set-ups guaranteed to generate 1000 bhp.

The factory builds hyper-powerful Corvettes, Lexus and Chevrolet SUVs, Ford Raptor pick-ups, Camaros, Mustangs, Vipers, Nissan GT-Rs, even McLaren MP4-12Cs and Ferrari 458s.—more than four dozen makes in total. HPE offers as much power as the customer desires, from 500 to 1500 horsepower.

HPE also operates a state-certified Tuner School; some of HPE’s technicians are graduates of this program.

HPE currently operates a fully equipped 30,000 sq. ft. factory next to its IHRA-sanctioned drag strip, Lonestar Motorsports Park about 45 minutes west of Houston, Texas along Interstate 10. The factory houses 2-and 4WD dynamometers, full metal fabrication shop, a built-in Hunter 4-wheel laser alignment, plus a showroom.

The company opened a second facility in Southern Californian in 2011.
