Menachem Stark: Jewish Businessman Was Kidnapped, Brother Says

Menachem Stark, a Jewish businessman in New York City’s Williamsburg neighborhood, was kidnapped on Thursday night, his brother siad.

Citing surveillance video, Yitzy Stark said that two men throw Stark into a vehicle outside of his South Side Associates office on Rutledge Street around 11:45 p.m., and take off.

“You can see that he came out of the office and and they came out of the minivan and went straight for him,” Yitzy told the Daily News, noting that police showed him portions of the video. “They grabbed him and he fought with them for about five minutes.”

The pair of men wrestled Stark into the van and tied him up.

Stark had $4,000 on him, police believe.

The NYPD was told early Friday morning after his wife notified the neighborhood’s Orthodox Jewish patrol.

Yitzy has offered a $100,000 reward for information that helps bring back his brother.

It is interesting what a strong sense of community within NY neighborhoods; the Williamsburg neighborhood has their own Orthodox Jewish patrol who was called first. They in turn called the NYPD.

    • rg9rts

There are deep divisions within the community and there is constant bickering and poor behavior,

      • takawalk

I have heard others make similar comments. I think it will be interesting to know why he was abducted. I doubt it was about the 4 thousand.

        • rg9rts

You can’t imagine the politics, They do a very good job of covering it up but its still there, just like their child molesting.

          • takawalk

If I remember correctly, which I may not, you live near by, or have personal knowledge of this that I lack. Appreciate the input.

          • rg9rts

5 miles and their nonsense never stops. They always push the boundaries of legality from zoning to milking the system.

          • Trilby16

Yeah, as a Jew I find it embarrassing.

          • rg9rts

They are a world unto themselves not your fault. They reap what they have sown.

        • abxnomore

This is the NY Post , of course, cousin to The National Enquirer:

This tragedy took place in the Hasidic community. The press inaccurately labeled him Orthodox. The Hasidic community is a closed society and they have always done their own policing. They keep everything within the community, as long as they can help it. It was only recently that a case of child molestation slipped out into the public and the courts.

      • AskandTell

Thanks for the clarification; I was wondering why the article didn’t say it was a Hasidic community. I do remember the child molestation case. I have a friend who recently moved to NYC and recounts her exploring the area. The closed Hasidic society was the most fascinating and unusual of her stories. It is like you are transported into a different country.

        • abxnomore

You’re welcome. Yes, if one is not used to living around a Hasidic community it can appear that you are in a different country.

          • rg9rts

Different planet, However like all groups they go mild to wild and good to bad.The problem is they, the leadership, really do put themselves above civil authority and pressure those that are violated into silence so as to appear so sanctimonious. The same nonsense as the catholic church and their funny priests. If we don’t talk about it it doesn’t exist. Similar to the Indian police approach to rape.

          • AskandTell

I was reading that they were against cameras on the streets for security and public safety. Felt no one should be observing their community. I hear them but couldn’t help but wonder why do they feel they should be treated any differently than the rest of us.

          • rg9rts

They have a sense of entitlement that extends to all phases of life. Trust me on this YOU have nothing like it in Minn. They are similar to fundamentalist christians in the adherence to their sect and beliefs. They disdain for anything that can expose their activities. I can promise you this, there is a major discussion among the community leaders as we speak over how they could have let this camera exist near them.

          • abxnomore

It doesn’t matter what the religion is, when you take it to the far extreme it becomes more of a cult than a religion. That’s what you have in these situations with all of it’s abuses, restrictions of freedoms and the second class treatment of women.

          • abxnomore

That’s the age old question. They do feel that way and they also get preferential treatment from the city and police.

        • rg9rts

Wait till your friend gets turned away from a store because she is immodest.

          • AskandTell

It’s one of the reasons she left Minnesota. She is 1/2 Japanese but depending on her dress/accessories was mistaken for Indian, Jordanian, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, etc. She felt uncomfortable as there wasn’t enough cultural diversity especially in the suburbs of Minneapolis and felt some higher end stores put her on high-watch alert.

She wanted to be in NYC with tons of diversity with the hope of becoming a translator. She doesn’t look Hasidic though so expected to stand out although she knew to dress very low key and bland when she went exploring.

          • rg9rts

They have their own standards. to blend I would suggest shaving her head and wearing a wig. There are a lot of places where you are accepted but this group is from another planet. They pride themselves on milking the system for all its worth and skirting legality. While covering up the faults in their society. I could go on and on but this is not the time or place for this discussion. When other things occur in this vein I’ll clue you in.

          • AskandTell

I’ve been trying to learn more information this afternoon as they are quite fascinating. But in some ways they seem to operate like the mafia.

  • rg9rts

Which sect is he a part of??? We have the same nonsense in one way or another in Kyras Joel.

    • abxnomore

One write up said Satmar hasidic but I’m not sure if that”s accurate. Most write ups just said he was orthodox but it’s clear from photos of him that he is hasidic.

      • rg9rts

I agree with that but this is a major step up in the violence.

        • abxnomore

True but there is violence and brainwashing in many of these religions that are so extreme. We just don’t hear about all of it because they are closed cults until something like this comes to light and they can no longer keep it within the group.

  • abxnomore

He’s been found dead in a Great Neck dumpster. Buy trying to handle this within the community, which is their way, they probably lost valuable time.

    • rg9rts

This should get very interesting. Will they rat out one of their own?

      • abxnomore

I doubt it. They’re just like the mafia!

        • rg9rts

          I know

  • rg9rts

Lets see them try to weasel themselves out of this one. So much for policing themselves.

    • abxnomore

Really, with a known kidnapping shown on camera why didn’t they call the police ASAP??

      • rg9rts

Like the pedophilia, tire slashings, beatings and general hooliganism they want to keep it an internal mater.

The NY media is reporting that Stark, found slain over the weekend, was considered a Hasidic slumlord and not a favorite of many people.

“The Post said Stark “left behind a trail of angry tenants from more than a dozen residential properties, mostly in Greenpoint and Williamsburg, along with an untold number of unpaid contractors and angry business associates.”

The New York Times also noted that Stark and his business partner, Israel Perlmutter, had defaulted on major loans including a $29 million loan for a 74-unit rental property.”

Interesting and bizarre facts about Menachem Stark: The link below has more information and documentation about each of these points.

    - Stark owed tens of millions of dollars in defaulted real estate loans and owned “vermin-infested drug dens and slums, along with several tonier buildings in Williamsburg.”

    - He owed tens of thousands of dollars in penalties for 148 Department of Buildings violations on his 17 properties.

    - Israel Perlmutter and Stark, principals of South Side House, LLC, were debtors in a Chapter 11 case worth $29 million.

    - Just hours before he was kidnapped, Stark had borrowed a half-million dollars from a business associate.

    - He had a sealed arrest for “forcible touching” of a young girl.

    - Typical review of his real estate company on Yelp: “Menachem Stark (aka Max Stark) and Israel Perlmutter (aka Sam Perl) are criminals and should not be trusted with your time or money.”

    - Stark, father of eight children, allegedly gave “generously” to Hasidic Jewish charities.

    - Stark had so many enemies that investigators say they almost don’t know where to start looking.

    - PIX11 speculates NYPD will investigate Satmar and Lubavitch Jews in the murder.

    - Stark was buried in Kiryas Joel on Saturday – meaning a full autopsy may not have been done.

Was I kidding you???? The more you dig the more you’ll learn.

  • rg9rts

A real pillar of the community! That’s why they closed ranks around him.

  • Notagainboot

The guys family has millions, they offer a $25,000 dollar reward for information on the case. They are so cheap they will let their own die and throw some change at the problem, just like their rentals sounds like. He might be a Jew, but Hell accepts them as much as anyone. Sounds like he found a hot place for eternity, free room and board included. I don’t know how these people live in that city full of filth and thieves.
