UFO Discussions by Former Astronauts and Top Officials

The universe is full of mysteries that challenge our current knowledge. In "Beyond Science" Epoch Times collects stories about these strange phenomena to stimulate the imagination and open up previously undreamed of possibilities. Are they true? You decide.

Over the past decades, various individuals—including pilots, astronauts, and government officials—have come forward with evidence of UFOs, space aliens, and government involvement in the covering up and harvesting of alien technology.

Some skeptics claim, however, that there is no physical evidence of UFOs and that the eyewitness accounts come from unreliable sources, which are either seeking fame or are out of their minds.

Perhaps the most credible source regarding UFO phenomena is former NASA astronaut and sixth man to walk on the moon Dr. Edgar Mitchell.

“There is no doubt we are being visited,” said Mitchell in a Paradigm Research Group press conference on April 20, 2013.

Mitchell described the U.S. cover-up and policy of denial as an “embargo of truth.” Although Mitchell has had no first-hand contact with extraterrestrial (ET) beings, he has spoken out about the existence of aliens, alien visitations, and reverse engineering of alien technology by the U.S. government.

Mitchell is originally from Roswell, N.M., home of the famous alien crash site of 1947. Although Mitchell was a teenager in 1947, he revisited his hometown in the 1970s after his Apollo flight. Many of the original eyewitnesses to the crash—including the sheriff at the time—came to Mitchell with their stories, telling him of alien bodies and the threats and harassment they endured during the cover-up.

Mitchell was apparently briefed on the UFO phenomenon during his years within military and intelligence circles. He described most UFOs as being “homegrown,” or reverse-engineered crafts based on original alien technology but not nearly as advanced as the originals, according to his 2008 interview with the U.K.’s Kerrang Radio.

Astronaut Gordon Cooper, one of seven in the United State’s first manned space program Project Mercury, also came forward regarding UFOs and ETs. In an interview with Sirius Disclosure, a project working to disclose information about UFOs, he told a story about a close encounter he had on a dry lakebed during the filming of a precision landing facility. A UFO saucer flew overhead, extended landing gear legs, and landed on the dry lakebed near the facility’s construction. As the camera crew picked up their gear and began to move toward the saucer, it flew away at a high speed. Cooper sent the developed film to certain authorities in Washington, D.C. After he reported the incident, the film was never seen again.

Before Cooper’s involvement with the NASA Mercury space missions, he was actively involved in the U-2 Spy Plane project, which was so classified that he couldn’t even talk about it with his own family.

Former Canadian Minister of Defense Paul Hellyer attended the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure in Washington, D.C., in May 2013, at which he encouraged the United States to disclose its knowledge of UFOs and aliens. Hellyer stated that there are “at least four species had been visiting Earth for thousands of years,” according to a video of the event. “They are different species, and consequently may have different agendas,” added Hellyer.

  • HeyJude

This is right up my alley! :-) I am one of the “kooks” who knows absolutely that there is something to this. My story means nothing to anyone, it’s not “proof” to anyone but me, but it is something that has stuck with me for 25 years. I am constantly looking for answers. I was witness (with one other person) to a massive, silent, low hovering, dull black triangle. Right over my head, looking straight up at it from underneath. 5 white lights along 2 of the sides, but able to see the triangle shape against the night sky, the corners were rounded. I know what I saw, and I know I’ve never seen anything like it since…no new military or civilian craft has come out in all those years that has matched what I saw. I didn’t believe in UFO’s until that night. I know there are those who would like to easily dismiss me as psychotic, delusional, prone to fantasy, mistaken, drunk, whathave you. I hope the day comes that someone official will finally admit that yes, people do see these things, millions of us are not crazy…..what are we seeing?

    • Lindstr7

Cool. I believe you. You don’t think it could have been like a stealth bomber prototype or something like that? I’ve always wanted to see something like that!

      • HeyJude

:-) Actually, it was very cool. I was suprisingly not scared or freaked out at all, just awe struck. It really was magnificent and outrageously large. The reason it couldn’t have been a stealth is that it was completely silent and hovering. Our stealths are extremely fast, and loud. They’re only stealthy because radar can’t see them. I’m not sure when stealths came out, but I saw this triangle in 1988.
Then after watching it for a few minutes, it just moved up and out sooooo slowly, then ZIP…it was gone, still silent. That also says it couldn’t have been a balloon or zepplin of any type…they also make noise, and don’t move that fast.
I’ve never seen another or anything like it again. And believe me, I look UP every time I’m outside. I want to see it again, too. I research all the time, the fact that it’s 25 years later says what a profound impact it had on me. My research says I’m not alone…millions of sightings all over the world. Makes me feel better! But even after the Phoenix Lights in ’97, lots of people still like to call me delusional. LOL .

        • HeyJude

Oh…and from above, you can see the barriers put up ….what chance does a plain old ordinary everyday person who sees these things have to be taken seriously by most? The testimony of astronauts, pilots, military, etc. is dismissed without batting an eye, the rest of us don’t stand a chance. (sigh) I had a debunker on HP use the argument that pilots are the worst witnesses. What??? LOL I would think they should know what is normal in their airspace…..

          • Lindstr7

I posted a comment here last night and it disappeared. Those darn aliens!

          • HeyJude

            An abduction! I knew it!!

        • Lindstr7

After you saw the footage of the Phoenix sightings did it seem like what you saw in 88? Did you feel somewhat validated?

          • HeyJude

Are you still here Lindstr? I came as soon as I saw you were coming here, but you posted that an hour ago! Sorry…I got all tied up with the horses after offering you Ben’s cocoa. :-)

          • HeyJude

I sure did feel validated…but then of course deflated. One of the biggest mass sightings, caught on radar and in pictures, and the darn thing traveled over 400 miles down the state with the Governer himself seeing it. The result? Nothing. No official validation or discussion or people saying “we have our answer”. Silence. Come to think of it, much like HP right now!! LOL So many people say we have no evidence, nothing definitive. But we do, it’s all over the place. Even when they say “I’ll wait until it lands on the Whitehouse lawn”….well they practically did back in 1952! Hugely documented case, took place over 2 weekends, again mass sightings and radar, and jets scrambled. Or they say “Carl Sagan’s yard”. He definitely believed they were out there, he designed the communication plaques they attached to some of the probes we sent out.

  • HeyJude

Phew….I’ve been yakkin’ on and on to you, Lindstr. I know you haven’t seen anything from what you said before, but what do you think of UFO’s? I’m running into more people now who haven’t seen them that now accept that it’s not so crazy after all – given the huge jump in info that recently came out with the discovery of so many millions of habitable planets. Before though, it was a “you have to see it yourself” before believing type thing.

    • Lindstr7

Heya Jude! Ever feel like your just talking to yourself lol. To answer your question: Heck Yeah I believe in UFOs! Let me put it this way. I find it highly UNlikely that we are the only sentient beings in the universe. Just because I’VE never seen a ufo and millions and millions and millions of people (except you lol) j/k haven’t seen one does not mean they do not exist. I just watched a video of a ufo sighting in Spain and it looks pretty strange (I wanted to fire the camerman though yeesh). When there are astronauts and pilots ex military who’ve seen strange phenomena and believe there is a coverup, it certainly lends credibility. But I like hearing stories from people I know and I don’t know anyone who’s actually seen one besides you (and you are no “kook” — I can vouch for that ;-) Anyone else who has a story to tell, please share! (links too, I think i found a new hobby). To the mother ship!

      • HeyJude

Hi Lind! Was just shutting down when I got notice you are here. Always talking to myself! LOL And like you, YES…love to hear other people’s stories, too. There are some really great documentaries out there, if you have the time and interest. Netflix has some, others you can find online.
There is one called “Out of the Blue”…. so worth seeing! Another called The Phoenix Lights”. Another “I Know What I Saw”. They are all very well done, great documentation. Now Sweetie Pie (my new nick name for ya), I have to head out. Hope you are feeling better than you were earlier, I wanted to jump through the monitor and hug you. :-) Oh, and if a movie is too involved, google some cases like the Belgium Wave, UFO’s over Illinois, the Japan Airline UFO, and the Iranian Pilot UFO. There’s a start for you!

        • Lindstr7

Thanks muffin :) I am feeling better thank you. I went over to PlanetPOV and read Mr. Hoodoos comments and went off on an existential tangent, but I’m zeroed in on what’s actually important to me now and feeling better, so thanks for that! And thanks for the links. Guess where I’m going right now? To see if I can find Out of the Blue online! See you on the mothership!

          • HeyJude

Good Mornin’ my friend! I’m so glad you’re feeling much better. Ya know, when I washed up on the shore of ET, I could tell I had made it to the right place. Everyone here is fantastic. But it really felt like home for the first time when you and I had our first banter…when I was grinning so hard my cheeks hurt. So no matter what else…you made it home for me. Huh, I’m a sentimental old gal. :-) I have a soft spot for Ricki, too…she was there with lots of hugs.
So…I hope you found it! I know Out of the Blue was on Netflix when I saw it, but if it wasn’t there for you, I did take a peek and it is up on youtube. James Fox is an amazing UFO researcher, with many years devoted to it, and highly ethical about sorting the chaff from the wheat. One of the frustrating things these days is our own technology…the fakes and hoaxes are so finely crafted. They are the greatest detriment to real research IMO. So many are made that it conditions everyone to believe ALL are fakes.
I hope to catch up with you later today! My schedule is odd, always up at 5 am…it’s the “livestock” thing, and even now I can hear the sheep yelling…where’s my breakfast! LOL

          • Lindstr7

You’re feeding them over at HP now? Oh you meant your farm animals. (When you said livestock….ne’er mind.) Hey, I watched Out of the Blue last night! It was so deliciously full of good stuff, I ate it all up. *burp* So much so, that I went on to find The Phoenix Lights. OOTB was on netflix but the rest of the docs there looked like something you’d find on the history channel. After watching TPL (we’re speaking in code now) I am most thoroughly convinced there is something to it. String theory, folding of space..time…..much fun stuff. I also went to the Phoenix Lights website to read more “personal accounts.” Impossible to call the Phoenix incident a hoax (even though the governor tried, jerk). I think I do understand the governments position though. While I was watching, such a strong sense of foreboding came over me at one point that I began making a mental list of canned goods I’d need at Costco for the shelter I decided to build. Lol, Seriously though, people DO panic and when people panic, it gets ugly, post-apocalyptic ugly. So in that sense I can understand their responsibility to keep the calm and the only way they know how to do that is to deny plausibility.
I found it interesting that some people felt a sense of calm during the experience. What could they possibly be doing by making an appearance and then disappearing over and over again. Two incidents happening exactly one year apart to the day. But other than that it seems pretty random. Could they (they? Maybe they’re drones sent remotely?) be introducing themselves slowly, allowing us to acclimate? (Ever see the Twilight Zone episode “To Serve Man?” If not you should, its a hoot)
Then, you have the seemingly impossible distance one would have to travel to even get here. Space fold? Worm hole? 4th dimension? (love this stuff.) I could go on and on.

Hey, where’s my breakfast! (taas for now. Oh, and thanks for the kind words, sometimes it gets to me a little and I have to step back and get some perspective, ya know?) Perspective found. Now….to Google …..Belgium Wave……

          • HeyJude

Linds…didn’t read your comment yet. Still here?

          • Lindstr7

yeah, still here. Was about to google belgium wave lol

          • HeyJude

Good… stay a minute…giving you my email, then deleting it from the page.

          • Lindstr7

            clever!

          • HeyJude

          • HeyJude

hehehee…poor Ben. If my husband didn’t frown on my dating, I might have something here. SORRY Ben, truly.

          • Lindstr7

          • Lindstr7

          • HeyJude

Another addiction? You won’t have time to do anything else but UFO’s and Epoch Times et al.

          • HeyJude

One of my favorite cases. You’ll like it, or have a nervous breakdown or something.

          • Lindstr7

How much do you love that delete/edit button? I’m going to marry it.

          • HeyJude

It’s one of the most awesome things ever.

  • Lindstr7

Hey, I’m up here! (echo echo echo)

    • HeyJude

Oh, hey! It worked, and I found you. All good again.

    • HeyJude

But if Ben writes to us, we’ll still see it, right? :-)

      • Lindstr7

yes..lol. It only collapses while you’re on the page and that handy “one message below/above” feature will alert us to when (not if) he decides to visit us :)

        • HeyJude

Phew! Linds, this has been so much fun. (Sigh) Thanks for being that special Sweetie Pie.

      • Lindstr7

Did you get a chance to read my response to you last night? I love this thread…want to keep it going.

        • HeyJude

I don’t remember! I always think I’m reading everything, but not sure. What did you say?

          • Lindstr7

LOL well I ain’t gonna type it again!

          • HeyJude

Well, pffft. If you flamed me good, it is lost then!

          • HeyJude

And that leaves me ahead 6 to 5. Yeah, I’m keeping track, lady.

          • Lindstr7

You probably collapsed it (on purpose!) Here ya go (you’re not getting out of this missy)

You’re feeding them over at HP

OH, this, yes…just read it when I came on to find you. I said down below that I have so many comments to make back to you on this! I’m glad you liked OOTB (I can speak code too!) and TPL. Those are great ones to get a look at.

          • HeyJude

Know what else is cool? Being able to see that you are typing a reply, then I just sit back and wait to see what you’re sending.

          • HeyJude

To Serve Man…It’s a cookbook! I LOVE that episode, even though the wow factor is limited to the first viewing. Kind of like the 6th sense, but then you have to watch it again to see all the clues you missed.

          • Lindstr7

Yes, very cool. I just tweeted this to Rachel Maddow:

HP users disenfranchised! Mass exodus to TheEpochTimes.com HP abandons users and stymies free speech!

          • HeyJude

Fantastic! Not only Rachel will see it, but all her followers, too? I don’t tweet, so unfamiliar with the workings.

          • Lindstr7

She’s probably wondering what HP is though. Happy Place?

          • HeyJude

She’ll know. They may not be talking out loud, but you can bet it’s big news to those insiders.

          • Lindstr7

I got to scoot for a bit. So glad we caught up and ty for the personal info. You will be hearing from me (poor you)

          • HeyJude

Good timing, I do too. Yeah, poor me…it will give my cheeks time to stop hurting. PLUS I will have to come back and really respond to your big post.

          • Lindstr7

heh. my autocorrect on my iphone just auto corrected your name as “hey nude” hah!

          • HeyJude

Sorry, must have left my web cam open… hahahaha

          • Lindstr7

            lol….ttyl

          • HeyJude

Take care Linds, and will see you real soon. We now have a mechanism to MAKE it happen, if it doesn’t happen by chance. Bye Sweetie Pie!

          • Lindstr7

below, (32 mins ago) didn’t say anything noteworthy, just like the topic

    • HeyJude

I answered you up above, just writing this so you get a notice for it. I’ll get my “working the system badge” for that, right?

  • HeyJude

Hey Linds…answering your post up here (you know the one). We chattered so much earlier, it’s a jungle down there. One might think it’s our own personal chat session site. :-)
I am so glad you liked OOTB, James Fox just pulls everything together so nicely. He’s very thorough, and a serious researcher. And yes, TPL was an event that SHOULD have ripped the lid off of everything, but didn’t. I agree, Gov. Symington was a real jerk at the time, but I too understand the reasoning behind it, even though I don’t agree with it. He redeemed himself later, actually came out and admitted he saw it too, and even spoke at the Citizen’s meeting for disclosure. I think that disclosure will happen, I think it’s already happening in drips instead of buckets. Many foreign countries have released their UFO data, the Pope came out and said that finding alien life would fit with their teachings, and scientists are telling us every single day about how many habitable planets they are finding and now saying openly it is not only possible but almost a certainty that life is out there.
You got the foreboding? I’ve had it. Not at the time of my sighting, it was too exciting, too awesome, non threatening and perhaps the most magnificent thing I have ever seen in my lifetime. I think that is what explains the calm you saw in everyone in the movie. I can vouch for that. In the years since though….I have of course had that same chill thinking about it and what it means. Since for myself I KNOW without any shadow of a doubt they are here, I sometimes feel as if I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. Like…ok, what now? What’s coming? I actually hope it’s in my lifetime, whatever it is….. I want to know. Ya know? LOL
I love that you went to dimensions ( string theory is currently at 11 dimensions Sweetie Pie! how cool is that?) and worm holes. I have gotten more into looking at that in recent years. People always say Pshaw….it would take them to long to get here! Nope, I think they have ways we can’t even think of doing yet, and those are all good possibilities. Another often bandied about is that they aren’t flying here with each visit, they have bases here all the time. I hope you found the Belgium Wave reports…they’re awesome. As another fascination to drag you into as a side bar…..crop circles are a related topic. I love those crop circles and what they might mean! OK, really loving the “no limit” chatter, but have to end this. See you soon!

    • HeyJude

PS: it may not make sense to mention the Pope unless you are aware that the Catholic church maintains 2 state of the art observatories with their own astronomers. One is at the Vatican, and one is here…Utah I think? Or Nevada? Can’t remember now. They know stuff. They have to.

  • bluskiff

this would be in the weird news section at HP. I spent a few months going down the ufo rabbit hole. serpo.org c2cam on youtube also EBE and S4 at area 51. If only a 10th of this stuff is true it is the biggest story in history.

  • bluskiff

I still can’t believe you have a EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE section. How cool is that. I spent a year going down the ufo rabbit hole Blew my mind. I haven’t look at the world the same since. Now if you just had a LGBT section That would be nice too.
