Jenifer Davis: Son Mason, Shot at Sparks Middle School, Recovering

Jenifer Davis said that her son Mason, who was shot at Sparks Middle School in Nevada, is recovering after being shot in the stomach.

Davis said in a statement obtained by the Reno Gazette-Journal that Mason’s first instict was to intervene and he did all that he could do to help Michael Landsberry, the teacher who tried taking the gun away from the shooter but who was fatally shot in the process.

The shooter has still not been publicly identified, despite the Gazette-Journal being told his name from multiple witnesses.

Davis said that “Mason was hit with a bullet to the abdomen” that “exited through his backside”

Mason wasn’t a target of the shooter, Davis said in the statement.

“We are happy that he is on the road to recovery and is doing well,” she said. “In fact, he is already up and about. He is in good spirits, although saddened by the loss of his friend, Mr. Landsberry.”

She noted that she plans on starting to work on gun-safety issues.

The shooting happened on Monday at the middle school, leaving Landsberry and the shooter dead.

Mason and another student, who has not yet been identified, were shot but are recovering.

The mother of the second 12-year-old said in a statement that she also doesn’t believe her son was an intended target.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
