Lobuc Church in Bohol in the Philippines was destroyed after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the Philippines, and the Baclayon Church was heavily damaged.
A series of major aftershocks followed the strong earthquake on Tuesday morning.
People couldn’t believe the destruction.
“This breaks my heart. Loboc Church, one of the oldest churches in Bohol collapsed,” said Anna Maris Igpit via Twitter.
“The tower of centuries-old Baclayon Church has reportedly collapsed dur to the quake,” said Tonyo Cruz, also via Twitter, posting one of the photos below.
Baclayon was built in 1595 by Jesuit priests.
Lobuc was built in 1638, rebuilt after the first church was built in 1602 but was destroyed by a fire.
Loon Church, another historic church in the city, was also damaged.
