Crews are scrambling on Wednesday to clear a mudslide from 5 Freeway in Sun Valley in time for rush hour.
All five lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway are covered in mud and closed, and on the other side, all but the center lane are closed.
Drivers are inching past the massive puddle, reported NBC.
“This is what happens in Southern California, especially the very first rain of the season,” said Fritz Coleman, NBC4 weathercaster. “You compare this with the 100-degree weather we were having over the weeekend, this is a real weather mood swing.”
“With all of the dry weather we’ve had, the moisture is squeezed out, all along the 5 Freeway,” Coleman said. “So that area is a little more vulnerable to mud slides.”
Drivers are advised to use Glenoaks Boulevard or San Fernando Road as alternates, according to a SigAlert issued for the area.
There is not yet an estimated time of re-opening.
