Evergreen and Morrison, Colorado: Bear Creek Swells, Floods Reported

    Residents near Bear Creek in Evergreen and Morrison, Colorado, were asked by Jefferson County officials to leave their homes on Friday after heavy rains inundated central Colorado.

    CBS Denver reported the roundabout at Colorado Route 74 and 73 is closed due to rising flood waters.

    UPDATE at 2 pm: All lanes of Interstate 70 are now open near Evergreen in both directions, reported CBS.

    The city is now having to deal with an emergency flood problem. The Denver Channel reported that downtown Evergreen was closed due to floods.

    At Evergreen High School, students were taken from the school to Evergreen Middle School.

    Colorado’s 9 News reported that Bear Creek has continued to rise on Friday morning, forcing the closure of Highway 74 from Morrison to Evergreen.

    Deputies are also going door-to-door in the Idledale and Kittridge areas to warn residents about evacuation orders.
