JASPER, Ga.—One suspect has been jailed and others face possible charges after authorities say a Taylor Smith’s body was left outside a mobile home in Jasper when friends could not revived her.
Smith, 20, died after an apparent asthma attack she experienced while with friends, police said. Pickens County sheriff’s deputies say the friends dropped her lifeless body off along Robin Lane. Deputies found the body near a trailer just down the road from the county jail.
Marty Gaddis, 38, faces charges that include concealing a death and abandonment of a body, WSB-TV reported. It wasn’t known whether Gaddis has an attorney.
Smith’s mother, Tanya Smith, is a Holly Springs police lieutenant.
“As a mother, I’m angry. I’m so angry that they treated her the way they did,” she said.
“She didn’t deserve just to be dumped on the side of the road, just because they didn’t know what else to do,” Smith added.
“She wanted to experience everything possible before she settled into what she considered a normal life,” Smith said. “In 19, 20 years, I’ve never heard of anyone doing such a thing. So, yeah, I think they should be prosecuted. I think they should pay for what they did to her.”
Jasper is about 60 miles north of Atlanta.
