A New Orleans baby was shot and killed and her baby-sitter was wounded this week.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans police say a 13-month-old girl is dead and the child’s 18-year-old babysitter is in stable condition after a shooting Thursday night.
Police spokesman Frank Robertson said the toddler and baby sitter were out walking when shots rang out and two men were seen running from the area.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the 13-month-old girl as Londyn Samuels.
Police have not identified the girl’s baby sitter who was hospitalized after being shot in her back. But her grandparents in an interview with The Times-Picayune (http://bit.ly/18qi7Ag) Friday morning said they saw her in the hospital early in the morning and she was alert. They held her hand.
They said the baby sitter is a friend of the dead child’s father and that she sometimes would watch the child.
Friday morning police were one man and two females from a residence in the area where the shooting occurred.
Police said they have no motive in the case and could not say if the baby sitter and child were the intended targets.
