Chinese Woman, Baby Lived in 24-Hour KFC Restaurant for Months

A Chinese woman and her infant child lived in a 24-hour KFC fast-food restaurant for two months, it was reported.

The Shanghai Daily reported that the woman, who was only called Xiaoshan, lived in the Beijing restaurant because she couldn’t afford housing.

Xiaoshan makes her living selling items as a street vendor. She makes between 30 and 40 yuan (around $5 to $6) each night.

She said the staff would not ask her to leave because the KFC was open 24 hours.

“We won’t drive away any customers who stay here the whole night,” a KFC employee was quoted by the Daily as saying.

Xiaoshan said that customers at the KFC donated items to her daughter, who is 9 months old.

Last month, it was reported that at another KFC restaurant in Beijing, ice cubes were found to have had levels of bacteria 12 times higher than the toilet water.

KFC then apologized to Chinese consumers via its Sina Weibo account for the tainted cubes.
