Prince William gave an exclusive interview to CNN, parts of which aired on CNN’s New Day program Monday, Aug. 19, at 8 a.m. ET. The interview will air in full on September 15.
According to CNN, Prince William talks about his passion for Africa and conservation work there. He talks about how he hopes to provide his new son with the same experiences in Africa he and Prince Harry had as children.
In the preview aired Monday, Prince William speaks about the much-watched first moments of royal parenthood. When he and his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, emerged from St. Mary’s Hospital following the birth of their son, Prince William says “Really we were happy to show him off to anyone who wanted to see him, as any new parent knows.”
“I’m just glad he wasn’t screaming his head off the whole way through,” he joked. He admitted that he had practiced putting the car seat into the car before doing it in front of so many people. He also noted that he maintains some independence despite his royal upbringing.
Prince William drove his family home from the hospital himself instead of having a driver take them.
“I’m as independent as I want to be,” the prince said. He noted that sometimes the system doesn’t allow it.
