Audience Member: Shen Yun ‘Brings Me Luck’

Mimi Chang feels that everyone, everywhere, should know about Shen Yun Performing Arts, which has been touring around the world since 2006 inspiring audiences with its sublime beauty.

Ms. Chang saw the New York-based Shen Yun performance on April 24 at David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Shen Yun will perform through April 28.

“This show brings me luck. If you see it, it brings you luck. That’s the truth,” said Ms. Chang, who has recently come to New York from Hong Kong.

The New York-based Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking the audience through 5,000 years of Chinese culture.

“Because the Buddha is there, I feel it. It brought me luck last year,” Ms. Chang continued.

Ms. Chang said a friend encouraged her to see the show years ago, but she did not go until last year. Now she is convinced that Shen Yun brought her good luck.

“Last year when I saw it, it gave me a lot of luck,” she said, and “I hope this show brings me luck.”

“That is the truth, this is the truth, I just come to tell the truth,” Ms. Chang said.

Shen Yun boasts three equally large touring companies that travel all over the world, but it cannot perform in China, where traditional Chinese culture was nearly completely destroyed by the Chinese Communist regime during the cultural revolution.

Commenting on the situation in China, Christine Lee, who was interviewed at the same time as Ms. Chang, said, “I feel the [Chinese regime] does not want it to be played overseas because of the religion, the emphasis on the Buddha.”

But it is precisely the Buddha that Ms. Chang credits for bringing her good luck.

Ms. Chang added that she and many other Chinese feel sad about the fact that their own culture cannot be celebrated in China.

“Everyone should know about this show. It’s a great show,” she added.
