Final Photos of Otto Warmbier Revealed: Report

Final photos of Otto Warmbier, the American student detained in North Korea for 17 months before he died after being released back into U.S. custody, were published online.

The Daily Mail obtained the photos, showing Warmbier with locals, drinking beer, and laughing with his tour group.

“He was in bed the night in question, and the next morning we had an early departure from the airport. He was in a good mood that morning,” a person, who was with Warmbier, told the publication.

“The poster story didn’t arise until a few weeks later. The footage North Korea released was grainy, and only showed someone taking it down, and not even leaving with it,” the person said.

Danny Gratton, Otto’s roommate at the hotel where he stayed, told the Washington Post of his arrest.

“No words were spoken. Two guards just come over and simply tapped Otto on the shoulder and led him away. I just said kind of quite nervously, “Well, that’s the last we’ll see of you.” There’s a great irony in those words,’ he said.

President Trump, Vice President Pence, and other officials have condemned his treatment while in captivity. Warmbier returned back to the U.S. in a comatose state before he died.

Meanwhile, his family reportedly objected to an autopsy of his body.

“The family’s objection to an autopsy was honored, and only an external examination was performed,” the coroner’s office said, ABC News reported.
