Washington, D.C.—Following the success of Photo Exhibits in both Santo Domingo and Santiago last year, a hugely popular Expo showcasing images from the picture book, “New Perspectives: Dominican Republic,” is on view in Washington, D.C. through May, and then slated to travel to New York City this summer.

Global Foundation for Democracy (GFDD) and its sister institution in Santo Domingo, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) has curated a selection of over 30 photo images documenting the country’s luminous and varied landscapes. It was accomplished in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS) Department of Cultural Affairs and the Art Museum of the Americas.

The Photo Exhibit, which runs the whole month of May at the OAS in Washington, D.C. , is keenly supported by Dominican President Leonel Fernandez, and forms part of GFDD/FUNGLODE’s overall goal to promote the Dominican Republic (DR), disseminate information about the country, as well as buttress appreciation and respect for its culture and ecological heritage.

His Excellency, Roberto B Saladin, Ambassador of the DR to the United States and the permanent Ambassador of the DR at the OAS Virgilio Alcántara, has also endorsed the project.

Created by Editor in Chief, Natasha Despotovic, “New Perspectives: Dominican Republic” is a masterly compiled 300 page bilingual English-Spanish publication comprised of nearly 400 aerial images. The book’s photographer, Anne Casale, at the inaugural reception, underscored her inspiration in desiring to present the Dominican Republic in a fresh, newfangled light.
