Where Do I Vote and What Time Do Polls Close or Open: Election Day 2016

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8, and millions of Americans are trying to figure out where to vote and when polls close.

It’s simpler than one might think. Google made it easy with a simplistic polling place locator that’s been built into the search engine.

All one has to do is type in “where do I vote” into the search engine, and it should bring up the nearest polling location from your home address.

Each state has its own closing time. Here are the times, according to The Associated Press.

Polling places are open at varying times in different states. An easy way to check the hours in your state is using this website. Most places are open at 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. 

For a 7 p.m. ET closing time: Georgia, Indiana (most stations in Indiana close at 6 p.m., but some counties in CT close at 7 p.m.), Kentucky (some stations in Indiana close at 6 p.m., but some counties in CT close at 7 p.m.), South Carolina, Vermont, and Virginia.

For a 7:30 p.m. closing time: North Carolina, Ohio, and West Virginia.

For an 8 p.m. closing time: Alabama (some counties close at 7 p.m.), Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire (most of New Hampshire closes at 7 p.m., but Kensington and Brookline close at 7:30 p.m., and some towns close at 8 p.m.), New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Tennessee (some counties close at 7 p.m.).

For 8:30 p.m.: Arkansas.

For 9 p.m.: Colorado, Kansas , Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico
New York, Wisconsin, Wyoming

Check local listings, as some states have varying closing times.: Arizona, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas

For 10 p.m.: Iowa, Montana, Nevada, Utah

For 11 p.m.: California, Hawaii, Idaho (all counties close at 8 p.m. local time, but some counties close at 11 p.m.), Oregon (Malheur County closes at 10 p.m.), Washington

1 a.m.: Alaska (most polls close at 8 p.m., but some areas are open as late as 1 a.m.)

Some states require one to use a piece of photo identification to vote.
