Amy Schumer ‘Apologizes’ to Tampa Trump Supporters

Amy Schumer used her Madison Square Garden show to offer a faux mea culpa for offending Donald Trump supporters in Tampa, Florida.

Schumer took a “break” from providing laughs to sarcastically apologize to the reported 200 audience members who walked out of her Oct. 16 show after she ridiculed the Republican presidential nominee.

“Dearest Tampa: I’m sorry you didn’t want me, a comedian who talks about what she believes in, to mention the biggest thing going on in our country right now,” she read from an open letter on Oct. 18.

“How could I think it was OK to spend five minutes having a peaceful conversation with someone with different views?”

She continued, “After the show, I want you to know that I will go straight to a rehab facility that will teach me how to make all people happy—both the rich, entitled, white people who are gonna vote for him and the very poor people who’ve been tricked into it.”

During Schumer’s comedy show at the Amalie Arena in Tampa Sunday, the 35-year-old referred to Trump as an “orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster” and said she couldn’t understand how anyone could support Trump in his quest for presidency. Schumer requested an audience member to join her on stage to offer his reasoning behind supporting the presidential nominee.

“Do you get worried at all with how impulsive he is,” Schumer asked, frustration in her voice, “that he gets so fired up from ‘Saturday Night Live’ doing a skit on him … do you worry he’ll be impulsive and get us in a lot of [expletive] trouble we can’t get out of?” reported the Tampa Bay Times.

Nearly 200 show goers who didn’t appreciate her bashing of Trump walked out of the show. Schumer has been a vocal supporter of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and gun control this election cycle. The following day, Schumer wrote on Twitter, “All love Tampa.”

As she concluded her open letter on Tuesday, Schumer thanked those who attended her Florida show, including those who left early.

“I look forward to putting this all behind us in a couple weeks when Hillary Clinton is our [expletive] president!” she said as the crowd cheered loudly.
