Man Wins Lottery Six Days After Surviving Plane Crash in Dubai

An Indian man won $1 million in the United Arab Emirates lottery—just a week after he survived a plane crash-landing in Dubai.

His lucky ticket was drawn in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire at Concourse A in the Dubai International Airport, Gulf News reported.

Khadar, 62, purchased the ticket while he was on vacation.

“I have been working in Dubai for 37 years, and I have always felt like this is my country. I live a simple life, and now that it’s my time to retire, I feel like God gave me a second life when I survived the plane crash, and blessed me with this money to follow all this up by doing good things,” said Khadar.

He added that he values the escape from the plane as a more “precious gift.”

Khadar said he wants to help children in Kerala, India, where he is originally from.

“If you ask me about my plans, I obviously want to help the children in Kerala who are less fortunate than others and need some financial help and medical support,” he said. “I don’t want to give it to a charity or build a business, I want to go out and find people who really need help and give them money. I was poor, and I know what people go through,” he added.

The plane he had traveled on, EK521, which was carrying 300 people crash-landed in Dubai before it caught on fire. All the passengers and crew on the plane escaped. However, a local firefighter battling the blaze died.

“We can confirm that there are no fatalities among our passengers and crew. All passengers and crew are accounted for and safe,” Emirates said in a statement on Aug. 3.
