Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis Saves Baby’s Life During ‘Carpool Karaoke’

The June 13 segment of Carpool Karaoke with James Corden and the Red Hot Chili Peppers consisted of Anthony Kiedis, “Flea” Michael Balzary, Josh Klinghoffer, and Chad Smith all squeezed into Corden’s SUV belting out some of their most famous tunes, taking their shirts off, and a wrestling match between Kiedis and Corden.

What was left on the cutting room floor? Kiedis saving a baby’s life.

During an interview with Radio X in the U.K., Kiedis recounted the frantic moment a woman ran out of her home holding a child, who was struggling to breathe.

“We all ran across the street, the lady thrust her baby into my arms, the baby was not breathing. I thought, ‘I’m gonna try and do a little baby CPR real quick to see if I can get some air in this kid.’ Tried to open the mouth, [it was] locked shut,” he said. “So I started rubbing the belly, bubbles came out of the mouth, the eyes rolled back into place. The ambulance showed up, I handed the baby over, who was now breathing and fine, and we went back to ‘Carpool Karaoke.’

He added, “It was kind of a beautiful thing that we stopped for the dance off. We were there; the baby needed help and we were there. When you’re a dad and somebody yells, ‘My baby!’ you jog across the street. The little baby looked at me the whole time until the ambulance guy came. Nina; little baby Nina.”

Kiedis was recently hospitalized for complications from intestinal flu in May. The 53-year-old singer viewed his recent health scare as a wake-up call.

“I think I had to get sick to take a look at myself and get to the causes and conditions of my overall health. So it turned out to be a good thing, albeit painful,” Kiedis said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada.

“I push pretty hard sometimes and I do take my health for granted on a certain level because I feel strong and capable. I surf most days and I like to charge, but every now and then, the body is like ‘you’re doing something wrong, either fix it or we’re gonna let you know about it’, and I think that my body let me know that I had to change my ways a little bit.”
