Seven-Year-Old Boy Sends Adorable Letter Applying to Be Soccer Team’s Manager

The confidence and boldness of a 7-year-old Scottish boy has charmed the internet.

After learning that his local soccer team and Scottish Cup winner—Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club (ICTFC)—was searching for a new manager, Ewan MacKenzie penned a letter that has warm many hearts.

MacKenzie wrote to the chairman of the club, Kenny Cameron, putting himself in the running for the managerial position.

MacKenzie told Cameron of his brilliant idea for balancing his school and work life.

“I can speak to my headmaster,” MacKenzie wrote “and see if he would be up for letting me leave school early for important matches and training.”

“I’m sure it won’t be a problem, as long as the players will be able to chip in and help me with my homework!!!”

Truly, it is quite adorable.

On May 26, Cameron responded, with a hand-delivered letter, perhaps equally sweet.

Cameron complimented MacKenzie’s knowledge of the Club and his selection for team captain, Greg Tansey.

Unfortunately, MacKenzie’s application was declined. Cameron urged MacKenzie to keep up with his studies, and reminded the boy that the future is yet unwritten.

“If you stick with your lessons and do well, who knows what the future will bring,” said Cameron, “in a few years you could be playing for the Club and more.”
