Trump Sends Handwritten Note to #NeverTrump Radio Host

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump sent a handwritten note in magic marker to influential Wisconsin radio host Charlie Sykes as a peace offering to the outspoken member of the #NeverTrump movement.

In a tweet showing the radio host holding a newspaper with Trump’s note, Sykes said he appreciated the gesture but that it hadn’t swayed his opinion.

The note said:

“Charlie — I hope you can change your mind. Look forward to doing your show,” Trump wrote, according to a picture Sykes published Friday. The billionaire drew an arrow to a Times story titled “Once Against, Another Flank Of G.O.P. Warms Up to Trump,” added his signature and concluded his note with, “I WILL WIN!”

The radio host addressed the handwritten note on his show, calling the note “unusual” but noting that Trump is “not your typical guy.”

“Quite frankly, I do think that it puts him in a reasonably good light that he would take the time to reach out to somebody who has been as sharply critical of him as I have,” Sykes said.

“And I have been very, very critical of the way he has insulted people, his refusal to apologize, and I will tell you, in fact I’m gonna post a picture of it so you can see, it’s very unusual. It is not your typical note, but then again Donald Trump is not your typical guy,” he continued.

Sykes was an instrumental force during the Wisconsin primary, during which his voice helped Ted Cruz win the state on April 5.

At the time of the primary, the goal of the #NeverTrump movement was to limit the amount of the delegates won by Trump and hope for a contested convention in July.

Since then, Trump has secured the Republican nomination, but that hasn’t swayed Sykes’s opinion of the presumptive Republican nominee.

Following the announcement of the potential Supreme Court picks by Trump—which included the radio host’s ex-wife Judge Diane Sykes—the resilient #NeverTrump member was suspicious, asking “is it a promise or a suggestion?”

This is not the first time that Donald Trump has sent a handwritten note to a member of the media. Conservative Erick Erickson replied to Sykes’s tweet saying that he too had gotten notes in magic marker from the presumptive nominee.
