Sofia Vergara Brings Attention to Women’s Health With Instagram Upload

Sofia Vergara is using her social media influence to bring attention to women’s health.

The “Modern Family” actress uploaded a photo of herself in front of a mammogram machine onto her Instagram page. She captioned the selfie, “It’s that time of the year.”

The 43-year-old actress’ picture brings awareness for breast cancer prevention. According to the the American Cancer Society, “women can wait until age 45 to start getting annual mammograms and cut back to every other year once they turn 55.” Though the Columbian-born actress is a couple of years aways from 45, fans appreciated her advocacy for women’s health.

Another user lrj thanked the star for giving a peek into her annual checkup. “Really appreciate that you’re sharing this- it’s so important that women go for their mammograms regularly. Thank you!”

A Breast cancer survivor commended the star for bringing awareness.

As Vergara maintains her health, husband Joe Manganiello is on the mend after suffering from a severe bout of appendicitis.

Manganiello was hospitalized in mid April. According to TMZ, the 39-year-old actor “went into the hospital late last week to have his appendix removed, but when doctors went in they were alarmed. We do not conclusively know the nature of the problem, but one source says his appendix burst.”

Since his April hospitalization, the “Magic Mike” actor is doing better.

“He’s OK,” Vergara told Entertainment Tonight at “Modern Family’s” ATAS Emmy Event on May 2. “He had a little problem, but now he’s good.”
