Shen Yun Is ‘Really Wonderful’

NAGOYA, Japan—Beyond beauty and magnificence, the spiritual messages conveyed by Shen Yun’s performance inspired and moved Japanese audience members.

“It was really wonderful and beautiful,” Mr. Takakura, president of Takakura High School, said after seeing Shen Yun’s show at Aichi Arts Center in Nagoya City on April 20.

He praised the performance, saying that the dancers, music, and the dynamic backdrops synchronized together very well.

Shen Yun’s digital backdrops extend the stage and transport the audience beyond space and time where heaven and earth become one.

The live orchestra caught Mr. Takakura’s attention. “There are traditional Chinese musical instruments as well as Western ones.” He found the two systems well blended together.

“The Shen Yun Orchestra combines the spirit, beauty, and distinctiveness of Chinese music with the precision, power, and grandeur of the Western symphony orchestra.” As the Shen Yun website notes, it creates in one harmonious and refreshing sound.

Mr. Takakura appreciated the scope of the production. “It represented stories from the ancient times to the minorities and things from modern times such as the Red Guards.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revitalize traditional Chinese culture through storytelling dance and music. It presents different eras and dynasties of Chinese history and includes a sampling of folk dances, such as Tibetan and Mongolian dances.

After seeing the performance, Mr. Takakura realized that modern-day China is not representative of China through the ages.

He had thought that contemporary Chinese people are instilled with thoughts of communism, which “are not accepted by the rest of the world,” and what Shen Yun is doing, reviving the 5,000 years of ancient Chinese culture, would “bring changes to China.”

“That’s why Shen Yun is banned in China,” he added.

“People tend to think that [contemporary] China is what China really is,” but after seeing the show, he found a huge gap between traditional and modern-day China. It’s why “what Shen Yun does is really significant,” he said.

He was so inspired by the performance that he said: “Isn’t the real spirit of China ‘Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance,'” values adhered to by practitioners of Falun Dafa?

In addition to ancient stories and legends, Shen Yun presents contemporary stories about how people who follow the traditional spiritual discipline of Falun Dafa, with teachings of truthfulness, forbearance and compassion, are currently victims of China’s nationwide persecution.

The existence of Shen Yun itself is simply too good to be true.

“If you ask me what’s so good about the show, I will answer: ‘The existence of Shen Yun itself is simply too good to be true.’ Every single part is good; the overall production is amazing.”

He was touched by Shen Yun’s efforts in reviving the 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture, believing “the Eastern civilization will be revitalized.”

“For I am in quest of mind, spirituality, and divinity,” said Mr. Kamisato, adding that he would pass on the spiritual messages he learned from Shen Yun to the other people in Osaka.

“I was moved beyond description. I’m speechless.” With tears in his eyes, he said before departing, “I really want to cry loudly now.”
