The body of a woman was found inside of a submerged car in St. Clair Shores, authorities said on Wednesday.
Police and fire rescue crews found the vehicle in the water behind Shore Club Drive at around 3 p.m. local time, The Detroit News reported.
The “sunken car” was found resting between the sea wall and a boat well, officials said.
According to FOX2, it’s unclear how long the car has been there, but officials believe it has been there for days. It is being investigated as a possible suicide.
The woman was identified as a 22-year-old Clinton Township resident, but her name was not released, The Detroit Free Press said. She was last heard from on March 3, and she was on her way to visit a friend.
Police said that wintry weather may have played a part in the crash.
“Today I was notified by the St. Clair Shores Police that my beautiful daughter Acadia had passed away. She’d been missing since last Thursday and her car slid into the canal at 9 and Jefferson that day where she has been since today when her car was visible in the water. We had been searching for her since last Friday with no luck,” she wrote.
