Secrets of Korean Medicine, Part 17: The Best Cancer Doctor Is Within Your Body
Secrets of Korean Medicine, Part 17: The Best Cancer Doctor Is Within Your Body

Why, despite investing hundreds of millions of dollars annually in research, have we not won the war on cancer? In my view, there are two main reasons.

One is the fundamentally reductive approach that is usually taken to treat cancer. That is, Western medicine pursues research on cancers in different parts of the human body separately, viewing the body as a collection of components as though it were a machine.

This is an enormous error from the viewpoint of traditional Korean medicine because all the organs and systems of the human body are closely interconnected with each other.

The second reason is that attention is given only to treating malignancies rather than addressing the root cause. Western medicine concentrates on treating cancer that has already manifested rather than preventing it fundamentally.

Thus, major cancer therapies like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation only manage to achieve partial success, and their approach of targeting and destroying malignant cells also causes cancer to become shrewder. After these treatments, cancer cells become more mobile or dormant and subsequently resurface somewhere else.

So does this mean cancer has become an obstacle that mankind cannot overcome? I sincerely do not believe so.

Key Players of the Immune System

The lymph system is a network of organs, nodes, ducts, and vessels throughout the body that form a major part of the immune system.
The lymph system is a network of organs, nodes, ducts, and vessels throughout the body that form a major part of the immune system.

The immune system in humans is a complex ensemble of lymphatic organs and cells that, like the military, are in charge of the defending the body against any and all harmful entities. Twenty-four hours per day, the immune system protects the body from all types of invaders, including bacteria, viruses, parasites, and various pollutants, as well as the body’s own dead cells.

Lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, are key players in the immune system. Three key types of lymphocyte are T-cells, B-cells, and natural killer (NK) cells.

T-cells are further classified into the killer T-cells, which attach themselves to and destroy virus or cancer cells; helper T-cells, which elevate immunity by inducing B-cells to produce antibodies; and suppressor T-cells, which inhibit immune reactions.

Every day, thousands of cancer cells can develop in our body.

Among these, the killer T-cells are the immune cells that hunt down and obliterate foreign (heterogenous) cells that are infected by a virus or have converted into cancer cells. These killer T-cells have been trained in the thymus to discriminate between the body’s own cells (autologous cells) and foreign cells.

If the total number of T-cells is reduced, or if T-cells are inadequately trained in the thymus, they can fail to identify cancer cells. They can also fail to recognize the body’s own cells, which can lead to autoimmune diseases.

B-cells produce antibodies, which combat specific bacteria or viruses. The human body is capable of producing more than a billion antibodies.

Lastly, we have several billion NK cells in our blood. NK cells are part of the innate immune system and thus don’t have to be trained to recognize pathogens. They automatically attack cells that have low levels of certain proteins, called human leukocyte antigens (HLA). Cancer cells and cells infected by viruses have low levels of HLA.

Fundamental Cause of Cancer

After years of clinical practice, the conclusion I have come to is that cancer is the result of a malfunctioning lymph system, specifically, the malfunctioning of lymphocytes. Although lymphocytes are supposed to maintain the health of our body by attacking and suppressing invading viruses, sometimes they attack the body’s own healthy cells.

So what causes them to do this?

You can think of the immune system as having a structure like society. In society, rebellion breaks out when a central government loses its ability to control the populace. A weakened central government will lead to the failure of various government institutions, such as the military, and then, as a result, soldiers won’t be properly trained.

In the body, a poorly trained military force, the cells of the immune system, won’t be able to discriminate between the cells of the body and foreign cells.

The tonsils in the back of the throat are important lymph nodes and a leader of the immune system, so if the tonsils, are weakened, the directionless immune system can attack oneself.

Radiation and chemo are the equivalent of using weapons of mass destruction against a rebel cell.

Moreover, when the tonsils are weak, the discrimination ability of immune cells, which is needed to suppress invading forces, becomes weak, and immune cells fail to properly perform their role as a punitive force. This can aggravate disease because they neglect to eliminate invading pathogens.

Patients are usually not aware of the malfunctioning of the lymphatic system and don’t experience any symptoms at all in the initial stages of cancer. However, when a cancerous tumor becomes noticeable and symptoms manifest, surgical removal of the tumor and radiation or chemotherapy are usually the go-to treatments.

However, radiation and chemo are the equivalent of using weapons of mass destruction against a rebel cell. These kinds of weapons cause extensive civilian casualties, and the possibility of peace in society becomes even more remote due to remnant rebel forces that escape to other regions and continue to incite mayhem.

So what, then, is another solution?

Beat Cancer by Cleaning the Lungs

In order to suppress rebel forces and achieve true peace, it is necessary to re-establish a proper order in society. This means central control must be restored by restoring the strength of the leader and securing control over the defense system. In fact, the majority of the rebel forces will throw down their weapons and surrender upon merely hearing the news that the leader has regained command and restored central-control capabilities.

Accordingly, health of the body can be restored if the lymphocytes regain proper functioning through the strengthening of the tonsils. They can then exhaustively besiege and exterminate cancer cells.

In my experience, after two months’ treatment to cleanse the lungs, the tonsils will become healthier. After four months, the fortified tonsils will be able to suppress the cancer cells.

If a cancer tumor does not grow any more after four months, this is an indication that the cancer can be conquered. In general, cancer tumors less than 2 inches (5 centimeters) can be treated.

I have also found out that it is possible to cure cancer patients with tumors less than 2 inches even if there is no change in tumor size after 10 months of pulmonary cleansing. However, this is limited to patients who have not undergone radiation therapy. The rate of cure for patients who have completed radiation and chemotherapy is extremely low.

I would like to emphasize one thing here, that although it is difficult to cure cancer when tumors are larger than 2 inches, it is nonetheless possible to suppress further growth of the tumor. This can make patients with advanced cancer much more comfortable.

If immunity is sufficiently fortified through pulmonary cleansing, it is possible to prevent metastasis into other parts of the body, and even though the tumors cannot be eliminated, patients can live with substantially less pain.

I vividly remember the last words of a Catholic friar I once treated. He had terminal lung cancer and passed away after about a year of lung cleansing treatments. One of his fellow friars visited me after his death to convey his last words. My patient said that because of the treatment he had received from me, “I am truly thankful for being able to die comfortably, without the severe pain I used to suffer in the past.”

I believe that this kind of comfortable death is a human right, and even if we cannot cure a disease, we should give patients this dignity in death.

The majority of healthy people believe that they have yet to encounter cancer. However, this is not true. In fact, every day, thousands of cancer cells can develop in our body. These cancer cells are thoroughly eradicated by a healthy immune system, allowing us to live in good health without experiencing any symptoms of cancer.

Thus, cancer doesn’t manifest in our body because we have not been exposed to it, but rather because our immunity naturally overcomes it. Cancer only manifests when cancerous cells manage to defeat immune system.

Accordingly, I say that the fortification of immunity through cleansing the lungs is the means of overcoming cancer.
