78-Year-Old Woman Found Dead Inside Car in Hackensack, New Jersey Parking Lot

The body of an elderly woman was found in her car in a Burger King parking lot in Hackensack, as an employee revealed the woman was afraid to drive due to the blizzard.

“She told an employee on Friday night that she was going to stay parked there because she’s afraid to drive in the snow,” Hackensack Police Director Michael Mordaga told NJ Advance Media.

The woman’s body was found around 8:30 a.m. on Monday in a gold, snow-covered Cadillac.

The cause of death isn’t certain yet, but Mordaga was ready to rule out carbon monoxide because the car’s tailpipe was not obstructed and because the car was not running.

The keys weren’t in the ignition, reported The Record.

The woman’s name has not been released because her family hasn’t been notified yet.

Bob Syrek, 77, lives down the street and noticed the car on Saturday morning as a plow tried to clear the parking lot.

“[The plow driver] couldn’t get around the car,” he said. “Nobody thought to look in it.”

North Arlington resident Ruben Santiago, 35, who also lives nearby, said he figured the car belonged to a Burger King employee.

“It’s just very unfortunate. We didn’t think somebody would be in a car under these circumstances,” he said. “I wouldn’t go and check up on a car that’s just parked.”
